5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!!!

Pros: Size
Price
Quality of camera and pictures
Easy to use for "newbies"
Enough flexibility and adjustments to satisfy the most serious shooter.

Cons: No built in viewfinder
Auto focus sometimes a tad slow.
A software update cured most of this.

Other Thoughts: This was my first digital camera as I resisted replacing my film SLR for years. I've always liked the Pen series from Olympus and for the price I figured I'd give it a try. The small size of the Micro 4/3 series was a good inducement I got this for $259 with the 14-42MM kit lens. I figured if I didn't like it I could easily sell it. Well, I love it. I've invested in an electronic viewfinder and two more lenses. I was able to get the Panasonic Lumix 45-200MM and Olympus 18MM for $199 each. I also got the VF-3 viewfinder and a spare battery. Although I had planned on moving up to the OM-D body I've put that on hold as the EPL-1 does everything I want. To say I'm happy with it is an understatement. If I decide I want something better all I have to do is buy either another E series body or the latest and greatest OM body. Knowing what I know now I can say that the current price while IMO a little high is still reasonable if not the outright steal of a price that I got it for.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's good. Not bad for the price

Pros: I just needed an entry level digital camera. The price was good enough that I didn't have to file bankruptcy afterwards.

Cons: nothing.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat buy

Pros: Great buy even for $499, although I feel luck to have gotten it for $250. The build quality and picture quality are amazing. I would pay full price for this if there was no other option. It beats out anything else in the $400-600 price range. The lens that comes with it is very decent but looking to get some more lens' soon.

Cons: I wish I would have bought more of these when they were $250 for gifts.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!!

Pros: Very good quality lens, no color abberation at all in the corners. Auto settings also take good pictures, which allows my wife to take great pictures also.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I wish the package came with 2 lenses, the existing lens and a telephoto lens.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect gateway to quality shots

Pros: Picture /color quality, Perfect compact size, Lightweight, Unbeatable price/performance value, Decent battery life.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: NewEgg price was almost at point & shoot category. Incredible price for considering what you can do with this camera. I chose m4/3 format (amongst other mirrorless formats) for being the most accepted one(hence wider lens availability) and being endorsed by two manufacturers. Then I chose Olympus for it's built in-body image stabilizer. This E-PL1 will be an interim bridge for me for next one year. If I see myself really getting in to serious photography; then I'll graduate in to already excellent Olympus OM-D E5 (will be much cheaper then, also with more lens options available).

I found a perfect condition Minolta MD mount 50mm f1.4 lens (a thrift store deal) for $10. A top-notch quality and incredibly fast lens. A proper $20 adapter provided a perfect fit to my E-PL1. Now I can shoot indoors with almost next to no light!
Micro 4/3 is the only platform which you can virtually fit any manufacturer/mount lens (of course everything will be manual).A perfect way of learning basics

4 out of 5 eggsJust needs better lens

Pros: Small, lightweight, fun camera. 1.8x magnifier makes this a great camera for far shots. Raw, jpeg images are sharp. Art feature is fun. Gets close to full dslr quality. ALL IN ALL GREAT CAMERA!

Cons: Stock lens is auto focus so the aperture increases the more you zoom. :( Which means you will have to adjust shutter speed and iso to make up for the lighting, but too much iso will make picture "noisy" or "grainy" and slower shutter speeds may require a tripod to make up for image blur.

Other Thoughts: Getting a micro 4/3s adpater to accept larger lens will make a huge difference for this camera. Just make sure the adapter allows infinity focus.
