View the World from a Different Angle
You love preserving memories, but you're ready for more creativity. More control. More options for capturing unforgettable images. The E-PL3 inspires innovation and is perfect for those who require a versatile, portable camera filled with advanced yet easy-to-use creative technologies. Its high-resolution 3in. articulating LCD features a new interface that makes it easy to access the effects you want from any angle.
Professional Image Quality
The new 12.3MP Live MOS sensor is optimized to maximize the performance of all m.Zuiko digital lenses in any shooting condition. Improvements to the sensitivity and read-out speed of the existing sensor makes ISO 12,800 shooting and Full HD movie recording possible.
Stabilization Technology in the Body, Not in the Lenses
Say goodbye to blurry images. Olympus in-body image stabilization technology makes it possible to use any Micro Four Thirds lenses (or Four Thirds lens), from wide-angle to telephoto, for perfectly clear, crisp photos no matter what the shooting situation, even in low light!
Improved Color Reproduction
The new TruePic VI Image Processor, designed specifically for the Olympus PEN, features Real Color Technology for improved color reproduction (especially colors such as emerald green, yellow, and gold) and color gradation. The faster processor also allows for a shorter recovery time between shots.
Face Detection with Eye Detect
Nail the focus for every portrait photo, every time. The new face detection AF employs an "Eye Detect AF" that adjusts focus automatically on the subject's eyes during portrait shooting and can even be adjusted to focus on the right, left or near-side eye. The Face Detection function captures up to eight faces, reducing the chance of blurred subjects when shooting several people at once.
Blazing Speed
World's Fastest Auto Focus*
The new FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) AF System is able to focus at an incredible speed and offers 35 separate focus points that are spread over nearly the entire sensor, which makes it possible for pin-point accurate focusing on small subjects wherever they appear in the frame. Selectable 3x3 groups within the 35-point area are especially effective when shooting active subjects.
5FPS Sequential Shooting
With the E-PL3 you can take up to five photos a second, allowing you to easily capture that perfect shot, especially when your subject is moving.
Advanced Continuous AF & Tracking
With the improved AF system, the AF Tracking function locks your subject into focus and continuously adjusts focus and brightness even if the subject disappears from view momentarily.
Improved Internal Focusing
High-precision engineering and an improved internal focusing mechanism have allowed the Olympus MSC (Movie + Still Compatible) lenses to auto focus quickly, smoothly and silently, perfect for stills and movies.
Creative Freedom
Full 1080 HD Video
Shoot up to 29 minutes of 1080 60i HD video and stereo sound in either AVCHD or AVI formats. A Direct HD Movie Button switches you from still to movie mode with just the press of a button.
In-Camera Advanced Art Filters
Six in-camera Art Filters (Pop Art, Soft Focus, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama and Dramatic Tone) are enhanced by new filter variations, art effects and bracketing. Photographers can use Art Filters in all shooting modes as well as filming HD movies.
New 3D Shooting
Add a new dimension to your photographs in any mode from macro to landscape with Olympus' 3D technology. By simply selecting the 3D Photo Mode, releasing the shutter, and slowly panning, the camera will automatically take a second image from a slightly different perspective. The 3D data is processed in-camera resulting in an .MPO file, the universal industry 3D format, for easy display on 3D televisions or laptops.
In-Camera Slideshow with Sound
Slideshows have never been easier or more fun to create. The E-PL3's enhanced playback functions allow you to employ effective fade-in/fade-out techniques, control the movie/still mix and speed, add captivating musical soundtracks, and much more.
New Three-Inch Tilting Widescreen LCD
This bright, 614k dot high-resolution screen features a newly-designed touch interface that gives you the ability to choose AF points, release the shutter, and navigate the camera's menus with just the touch of your finger. With the AF (Anti-Fingerprint) coating, you don't even need to worry about fingerprint smudges.
Excellent Shots - Effortlessly
iAuto automatically identifies the scene you're shooting in portrait, landscape, night portrait, macro, or sport C and adjusts the settings to optimize results. The E-PL3 is also equipped with 23 Scene-Select modes for effortless picture taking, including Fireworks, Sunset, Children, Macro and Panorama, to name a few. There are even three scene modes that are specific to shooting with Olympus conversion lenses to optimize the performance of those lenses.
Updated Screen Design & Live Guide
The E-PL3's Live Guide system allows you to preview effects as you adjust them – before the image is even captured. Simply select Live Guide and turn the wheel on the back of the camera to slide through numerous photographic effects, such as brightness, color saturation, tone, etc.
Operating the camera is more intuitive with the newly designed user interface. The on-screen graphics have also been updated with a sleeker font design and an automatic pop-up guide in the menu screen.
Get Wireless
No need for cables or even a computer. Upload or email images directly from your camera with an optional PP-1 PENPAL® or Eye-Fi™ card. The E-PL3 is also capable of recording stills and video to SD, SDHC, SDXC and UHS-I media cards.
Low Light Performance
AF Illuminator
The addition of this super luminosity LED beam allows the camera to focus faster in low light up to almost 10 feet.
Increased ISO Sensitivity
Stunning low light photos are a click away with an increased ISO sensitivity to 12,800.
Attachable Flash Included
This camera provides the flexibility to attach a flash to your camera via the accessory port, or leave it at home for maximum portability.

4 out of 5 eggsOlympus Pen

Pros: for the money probably the best deal out there. All in one compacts can be more expensive and still don't deliver the same image quality. Micro 4/3rds is compact yet powerful and can be expanded with after market lenses. If you are coming from an average compact this epl3 will blow you away.

Cons: wonky interface takes some time to get used to. There are full manual controls yay! No front handgrip. Sensors in newer models handle low light better but you will not be able to buy those cameras at this price-point. Prime lenses are expensive.

Other Thoughts: A great entry level digital camera. Not as bulky as a dslr. Well built by Olympus. If your expectations are realistic this camera is an excellent buy.

5 out of 5 eggsSlick camera

Pros: Light weight
Great pictures

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Small light like the Olympus legacy great pictures Micro 4/3 camera can use almost any legacy lens many excellent. Also the sensor size uses the sweet spot in the 35mm film cameras lenses. Improvement in every way. There is no built in flash but it comes with the camera very small. This is not negative for me I like available light and carry a bag with charger battery extra lens etc. I also do macro photos and I have a 50mm "normal" for moderate close up for portraits or selective focus. I am using my old Canon FD 50mm f1.4 again and a Yashica 55mm f2.8 macro. I remember how i wanted to use that sweet Yashica macro on my old F-1. Well no problem now I wish I had not sold my Leitz stuff now. Olympus great results with the included lens as well. Its putting the fun back into photos for me. This is my second Olympus Pen. I was somewhat disappointed with the first model for lacking a cable or electrical release (I do macros) but that is no problem with this model.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera for the Price

Pros: Full control over every aspect of the camera with a great auto mode as well. Good accompanying software to deal with RAW images. My 75 YO Mother was very pleased with the Portrait feature in the software that really adds a usable glamour softening to the photo. Fro two hundred bucks you cannot go wrong with this camera. I bought this just before Christmas and have some great shots of the family.

Cons: My biggest gripe is how close the multi selection d-pad is to the big 3 inch LCD screen. My fat fingers cant get in there that easily.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great pictures / videos quality for money, with very little adjustments. Smaller and lighter then E-PL1. Takes crisp and sharp images in low light/shadow conditions.

Cons: none, additional Lens such as 150mm are $$$.

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd E-PL camera. I love my E-PL1 but my kids are now taking over E-PL1 so got E-PL3 for myself.

I am not sure if I can use other brand Lens on E-PL3. I am researching this now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal, Quality Camera

Pros: This was a 700 dollar camera two years ago. It takes much better pictures than point a shoot in the current price range. 12 megapixels is fine unless you want to cover a wall with your picture or only want a small part of it. The quality is really nice.

Cons: You do get a flash with the camera, but you can't use it with the optional viewfinder, which costs what you paid for the camera, same for getting a fixed lens, although the lens it has takes great pictures.

Other Thoughts: There are cases available for around 14 dollars which are really nice, some have a handgrip built in.

3 out of 5 eggsVery nice entry level camera

Pros: Offers a lot of scalability for an entry level camera. Very compact and would be more worthwhile than a point and shoot.

Cons: No lens hood included and no built in flash. Also no view finder for framing shots. Not a big deal. just something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts: This is a really great camera for the price. It is intended as a gift. I opened it to make sure it wasn't a dud and updated the firmware. So my use is limited to a few test shots, but the build and image quality were impressive enough for me to get myself one... and i wasn't in the market for a new camera.

5 out of 5 eggsNice learning camera

Pros: Auto mode outclass all point & shoot cameras I've ever used in picture quality. Has the ability to use varying combinations of manual and automatic settings as I learn how and can improve on the automatic for better pictures yet.

Cons: The autofocus can be a little unpredictable for timer-tripod selfies and I need my reading glasses to manual focus with the LCD screen. All available viewfinders displace the flash from the hot shoe on the camera so you can't use both together.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because point&shoot digital cameras on the market have declined in quality over the years and I want something better. Looking at interchangable lens cameras reminded me of an old desire to learn more advance photography than the Kodak Instamatic film and point&shoot digital cameras I've owned before and at $200 for a nice Olympus at Christmas bonus time...

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome camera

Pros: Just a great little camera,Compare it to the much more expensive and popular Canon EOS M and this puppy wins hands down.It Feels good in my hands and controls are easy to learn.

Great IQ,lots of options and also lots of Easy options to shoot also.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Extra Battery is a must but they are not expensive,All in all this camera at less than 2 bills is a steal!

5 out of 5 eggsA steal

Pros: This is a very good camera; it has the same specs as the E-PM1 (which I also have), but has a tilt screen and more control buttons, so it is more versatile and much easier to use. Olympus has newer models with higher specs, so this one has been deeply discounted by various vendors for months. I guess that it is no longer manufactured and is a clearance item, while the E-PM1 (whose only relative virtue is slightly smaller size) remains at a higher price. The lens itself has a retail price of about $300. This camera takes great photos and beautiful video, even in rather low light. The Micro 4/3 system is a design shared by Olympus and Panasonic; there are lots of very good lenses and accessories available and essentially all of them are interchangeable throughout both lines. Olympus tech support has been fairly good. Unless you already know that you need higher performance, you will probably find that this camera serves you well.

Cons: Micro 4/3 lenses and accessories are not cheap. (You might think of buying some if you get this camera.) I really miss having a viewfinder; it is an optional module that I have not bought yet. The video is beautiful, but it is choppy if the camera is moving quickly or too much of the background is moving.
