Coolpix S630
- Pros: Only having this camera for one day and it being my first Ultra Compact Camera purchase I found it to be very easy to set up and use right out of the box. It came with the AC charger, battery, USB cable and a video cable. (It doesn't come with a flash memory card)
I have only taken a few pictures so far but I consider the picture quality very good for a camera of this type. The menus and set up screens flow well and controls are fairly intuitive. I was able to go through the entire setup and operation of the camera in a very short time with out any reference to the manuals. I plugged it into my Windows XP computer via the USB cable and down loaded test pictures with no problems. Windows recognized the camera instantly and proceeded with the download.
- Cons: There are only a couple of things I wish were different on this camera: The 7x optical zoom is fast but does not have proportional speed control like my Sony. This is only a problem if you are going to shoot moving video and want a smooth magnification transition and be able to vary the zoom speed.
I also prefer zoom controls on the back or front of the camera instead of the top but there really isn't any other ergonomic place to put it on this camera.
- Other Thoughts: Overall I think this is a great little camera. If you want the best performance and speed from this camera I would recomend getting the optional SDHC memory cards and preferably the class 6 cards for the fastest speed. I gave it 4 stars only because of the zoom function I do not like.
