16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor

Stunning Image Details
16.2MP CMOS Sensor

Whether you want to make large prints or crop tightly in an image, the D7000 delivers the resolution you need. At its heart is a DX-format CMOS image sensor with 16.2 effective Megapixels, optimally engineered to gather more quality light through sharp NIKKOR lenses. Coupled with 14-bit A/D conversion (12-bit selectable), the D7000 produces stunning images that are richer in tone and detail than previously possible in DX format.

Breathtaking Full HD 1080p D-Movies

A New Era of Movie Capture
Breathtaking Full HD 1080p D-Movies

The D7000 is equipped to help you create impressive cinematic masterpieces with Full HD 1080p and movie editing functions for exceptional scene reproduction and quality. In addition to smooth video, the camera can compensate for distortion and other image-degrading problems. Aside from a built-in monaural microphone, the D7000 incorporates an external mic jack for high-quality stereo sound recording options.

6 frames per second continuous shooting

Remarkably Responsive
Six Frames per Second Continuous Shooting

Say farewell to missed opportunities. The D7000 incorporates a new driving mechanism to conduct its remarkably fast and precise mirror movements, giving you an approx. 0.052 second release time lag and an approx. 0.13 second start-up time. What’s more, you can continuously shoot at approximately six frames per second at both 14-bit and 12-bit A/D conversion for RAW shooting.

Wide sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 6400

Crisp Photos in Any Light
Wide Sensitivity Range of ISO 100 to 6400

ISO 100 to 6400 has now become standard with the D7000, enabling you to handle a wider range of lighting situations: from the bright and sunny outdoors to low-lit evenings and interiors. Nikon’s renowned noise reduction technology has been upgraded even further. Throughout the range, the D7000 delivers sharp images with minimized color noise. Quality, high-ISO performance can also enhance your movie shooting, allowing you to capture the mood of a scene using only available light.

Ground-breaking 2,016-pixel RGB sensor

More Accurate Control
Ground-Breaking 2,016-Pixel RGB Sensor

After the incredibly accurate 2,016-pixel RGB sensor reads a scene's lighting information, the D7000 cross-references what it sees with imaging data from a large selection of real-world shooting situations. This way, the renowned 3D Color Matrix Metering II delivers exposure results that are faithful to how you see light and shadow interplay, even in difficult lighting situations. This intelligent metering technique also delivers exceptionally accurate i-TTL flash exposures, and it all happens within milliseconds for both speed and precision.

Customizable 39-point AF System

Powerful, Wide-Area Coverage
Customizable 39-Point AF System

The D7000's strategically positioned 39 AF points cover a significantly wide area of the frame, giving you flexible compositional possibilities. The nine AF points in the center utilize powerful cross-type sensors—especially useful when you need tack sharp focus, such as with portraits and macro work. The D7000 offers a variety of AF area modes, including Dynamic-area AF using 9, 21 or 39 points. Utilizing Nikon's Scene Recognition System, Auto-area AF properly judges the main subject within 39 AF points and focuses on it.

Improved image quality and speed

Improved Image Quality and Speed

The newest generation image processing engine, EXPEED 2, is capable of performing multiple tasks with more speed and power. Expect smoother tonal gradations, even in difficult shadows and highlights, for a greater sense of depth in your images.

Rugged and protected

Rugged and Protected

With a top and rear cover of durable magnesium alloy, the D7000 is ready for the outdoors. Nikon engineers paid meticulous attention to where exterior parts join by employing durable sealing against moisture and dust. The compact body has also undergone severe environmental tests to prove its rugged reliability.

100% frame coverage

100% Frame Coverage

With approximately 100% frame coverage in the viewfinder, what you see is exactly what you capture. The specially coated glass pentagonal prism and precision-crafted finder screen offer not only a bright viewfinder image, but also enable you to easily confirm when a subject is in focus.

Rich image previewing

Rich Image Previewing

The D7000 features an expansive 3in. VGA LCD. Its approximate 921k-dot resolution assures clear, detailed display of images, which proves invaluable when confirming focus or assessing image sharpness.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent enthusiast or pro camera

Pros: • High build quality (magnesium alloy, as opposed to plastic), feels "right" (hard to describe good build quality, but you know it when you see it)
• Good value for "low level professional" camera (cheaper than D300S at the time of this post, has more features)
• Dual SD card slots can expand the number of shots you can take or use as an instant backup
• Excellent image quality if paired with good glass
• Light weight
• Offers the same features as professional level cameras (i.e., mirror up, takes a cable release, 6 frames per second, takes excellent video)
• Commonly-used settings (ISO, white balance, exposure compensation, flash compensation) are buttons, not options in the menu
• Body-only version, so you don't need to have the kit lenses (which aren't bad, but it's better to save your money and buy good glass)

Cons: • Slow buffer (it goes 6 frames per second, but only for a second or two in raw--it has to write to the card before it will let you take more photos) As I don't do sports photography (at least for a living), this does not matter to me

• Crop sensor--for a few hundred dollars more, you can get a full-frame sensor with similar features. But you'll need full-frame lenses.

Other Thoughts: If you haven't upgraded to full-frame lenses but need a new camera body, this (or the D7100) is the choice.

5 out of 5 eggsNikon D7000

Pros: Camera is incredibly versatile. A LOT of camera for the price. Produces excellent images. Takes some time to learn (DO take it) - *read* the Owner's Manual and get an app such as David Busch's "Nikon D7000 Companion App" which will jump-start your learning curve. Spend the money to "step up" to this. You'll be glad you did. It rivals Nikon's ridiculously-expensive "Pro" models. Subjective opinion - better than Canon, Sony, Pentax, etc.

Cons: Nikkor lenses are high $$$

Other Thoughts: MUCH better camera than the $500-range Nikons. If you're just moving to DSLR, you can't go wrong with D7000. Even if you're a Pro, this is a darn good tool. With introduction of newer models, this is on the better side of price curve. The 18-105mm "bundle lens" is serviceable - you'll likely find yourself shopping for lenses fairly quickly if you truly enjoy photography. I would describe myself as an "advanced amateur."

5 out of 5 eggsgreat body

Pros: Feels like a pro body, fast af, great in low light, fast shutter speeds

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I ordered a d3100 about 6 months ago and they sent me the 5100 kit, I was hoping they'd send me the kit instead of just the body on this order...lol
I'll update the review as I test the body some more.

Also, the shipping was okay, not as fast as usual. Plus, they are recycling boxes or something now? Mine looked like it had been used a few other times (wripped on flaps under tape. Also could have fit three of these units in that same box plus the padding they use.

5 out of 5 eggsworth every penny you spend on this super camera

Pros: Super fast camera, the image quality beats Canon 7D, which I initially planned on buying. Matching up Canon 5D Mark II image quality, only with this price.
Performance wise is suitable for landscape photographer or portraits photographer, Excellent DSLR, two thumbs up!

Cons: Continuous shooting mode performance goes down after about 20 shots in a row. Then goes about 1 or 2 pics/second.
While Canon 7D is great for sport shooting, you'd never miss a shot with that machine, but not with Nikon D7000.

Other Thoughts: In conclusion, if you're sport photographer, definitely go with Canon 7D... for anything else, definitely go with Nikon D7000, you'll never regret the price you spent on it and with amazing quality. This camera is a beast to that aspect. I researched for months before on buying either from Nikon or Canon, the decision was way more than a single click. So trust my words, you will cut corners.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera

Pros: Small and solid, with a nice heft for stable shots. Tons of options. Beatiful pics and great in low light.

Cons: Even with pentaprism manual focusing is tricky, but my earlier camera d40x did the same thing. I miss film for this reason!

Other Thoughts: Made in Thailand, since they had flooding the price has gone up $70 dollars!

5 out of 5 eggsOne sweet camera

Pros: This is one terrific DSLR. Although I've only had it for a couple of weeks, it does everything you could possibly want to do photographically.
I've been into photography for close to 35 years and had both Nikons and Leicas and this is by far the best of the bunch. It can shoot in raw format and the images are incredible!
I got it with the 28-300mm lens, also from Newegg and am going to aquire a 10-24mm soon. Unfortunately Newegg doesn't carry that particular lens, so I'll have to shop elsewhere for that.

Cons: The only cons I can think of are it doesn't come with any memory card, but I bought a couple for the 2 card skots from Newegg, so I gi=uess I'm good there and I don't think many cameras come with memory cards these days anyway.
The manual is really detailed, about 325 pages detailed, but this thing is just about a computer with a lens attached!

Other Thoughts: I can't envision another camera that would do the job better for me. Incredible shutter speeds and overall capabilities.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera, Great Price

Pros: Solid body construction,
Very good high ISO performance,
The battery lasts a very long time on one charge,
Very easy to use non-CPU lenses,
U1 and U2 modes,
dual SD card slots,
The camera has a significant weight to it making it easier to use with heavier lenses (like the nikkor 70-200 f/2.8)

Cons: None, really.

Other Thoughts: This camera really performs great under almost every circumstance.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Well, there just isn't enough good to say about it. For the money, at this time, it is just beyond amazing. I do a lot of photography and photography is a part of my job description (Graphic Artist by trade). I have one personally and just got one for work as well.

Incredibly sharp photos, excellent white balance (handles better than the D90), very well constructed, MUCH improved ISO options... well the list could go on for a while. If you are thinking about it, GET IT.

Cons: I don't care for the new battery door. A little cumbersome if you are in a hurry.

I don't like the release mechanism for the data card door either.

The MB-D11 multi-battery grip is just too expensive. A great accessory, but too expensive.

Other Thoughts: I haven't done much with the video feature other than home/holiday videos (which it does a marvelous job of) but I do recommend large, fast cards. At least 8g to be happy for the whole evening.

Though pricey, the accidental damage coverage Neweggs offers is nice. I bought it for peace of mind. If you do a lot of photography you know how inattentive people can sometimes run you over. Never broke anything, but still. It's worth the money to me.
