With 16.2 megapixels, a swivel Vari-Angle LCD monitor, full HD movie capabilities, new EFFECTS Mode and new HDR setting, you hold the power and performance to capture beautiful moments and the freedom to get creative.

  • newegg Stunning image quality Incorporating the latest Nikon D-SLR technologies such as the 16.2MP DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 2 image processing engine, the D5100 delivers outstanding image quality. Its CMOS sensor offers a remarkably wide ISO range (ISO 100 to 6400) with reduced noise which enables you to shoot at faster shutter speeds and capture scenes and subjects with less blur. Handheld shooting and full HD movies come out looking great even in low light.
  • newegg Tell better stories The D5100 delivers exceptionally high-quality movie performance due to its full HD capability while the latest in Full-time autofocus takes the guess work out of tracking your subjects while in motion. Effortless moviemaking is at your fingertip thanks to D5100's ergonomically placed Live View and Movie start button. Your D-Movies will come to life thanks to D5100's sound recording capability - get stereo sound with Nikon's optional ME-1 Stereo Microphone.
  • newegg Effects mode The D5100 incorporates an amazing array of special effects for use when taking still pictures or recording D-Movie Full HD movies. Selective Color isolates any color within the scene; capture details in places too dark for your own eyes using Night Vision; create bright, glowing images filled with atmosphere with High Key; emphasize the mood of a scene using Low Key; Miniature Effect makes a scene look like a miniature scale model; and Color Sketch creates color outlines of the subject that are played back as a series of stills in a slide show.
  • newegg HDR (High Dynamic Range) In scenes with extreme contrasts, such as bright, sunlit clouds and a foreground deep in shadow, it was once quite difficult to render the textures of both equally. Not any more. D5100 combines two exposures to create an image revealing an extremely wide dynamic range, but with less noise and richer color gradation than ever before.
  • newegg Vari-angle LCD Monitor Take pictures or record movies from a unique viewpoint, the D5100's 3.0 inch, super sharp, 921,000-dot Vari-angle LCD monitor allows for versatile high quality viewing and playback. Explore every angle, with overhead shots, waist level candids, ground level and fun self portraits; you will never miss a shot. This Vari-angle monitor allows you to be creative from any point of view.
  • newegg Capture your subjects precisely D5100's 11-point AF system provides flexibility to compose the shot you want ensuring your subject is captured sharply wherever it's located in the frame. Working together with the Scene Recognition System, the camera can keep your main subject in focus even if the composition changes using Nikon's exclusive 3D-tracking.

5 out of 5 eggsLike New

Pros: The price for this refurbished nikon fit my budget perfectly and was one of the best deals I could find around. Though I could have chosen a couple other "cheaper" retailers I decided to purchase from Newegg because of the excellent Customer Support, fast shipping, and extended warranty from service net I've experienced as a customer since 2009. Of course the product arrived right on the date specified and looked brand new when I opened the box. Thanks Newegg for satisfying me as a customer once more.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat quality OEM Refurb

Pros: If it wasn't for the note in the box from Nikon that says it has a 90 day warranty because it was refurbished BY NIKON I wouldn't have known it was refurb. The product is absolutely perfect!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Nikon is great about RMA repair. I have used them before (NOT FOR THIS PRODUCT) if you purchase this test it for up to 90 days and if there is something wrong contact nikon and they will fix it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Purchase

Pros: Fantastic camera for the price, Could not tell this was a refurb item as it was in flawless condition with all accessories included. Camera works great and the picts I have taken so far are a nice improvement over my old failed fuji finpix 7000. Newegg again with the super fast shipping.

Cons: The only isue I have is that the charger did not work. The charge itself is quite flimsy at the wall connection, went and purchased another charger from box store to confirm and that solved my charging issues. not enough issue to remove an egg as this is a fantastic camera for the price expecialy with the coupon offer.

Other Thoughts: If your looking fior a great entry lvl DSLR camera, look no farther. Camera has great reviews and is very user friendly, with a couple lenses this will make a great set up to last a long time. Worry not about refurbished as this camera is super clean and refurb means higher lvl of inspections.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera

Pros: Extremely great camera, especially for the price, I don't see anything it doesn't do, that I would need, to take great , professional quality photos.

The battery is great, I bought a second one, but haven't needed it yet, I'm running on one battery the past 3 days and I use it quite a bit, especially for long exposures at night.

I also bought a 55-200mm lens and a 35mm prime lens.

1 out of 5 eggsbusted

Pros: All the pieces were present and accounted for

Cons: Bad shutter

Other Thoughts: Bought this refurb camera (factory refurbished from Nikon) and it arrived with a broken shutter. All the pictures were black as if the lens xap was on... It was not. The live view would display an all black screen as well. Product was returned for a full refund, new model was purchased at full retail price.

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent Camera, Video mode lacking

Pros: I was looking at this and the Rebel t3i. I've played around with the t3i before, but finding a refurbished D5100 for such a low price, I jumped on the offer.

First off, as a refurbished model, this looks in pristine condition. It looks like no human or dust has ever touched it when you first unwrap it from the box. Also, it came with everything it said it would - Camera, lens, caps, covers, cables, etc.

Secondly, I consider myself a beginner with photography and cameras in general. The most I've used to DSLRs is our old family Nikon N60 SLR. This was very easy for a beginner for me to quickly grasp and understand the basic functions. After fiddling around for a couple minutes, I found there was a lot more customization and advanced settings. It takes clear pictures with the nice blurry background effect that I want.

All in all, I find this camera excellent in most aspects and I would recommend it to anyone in the future who wants a DSLR.

Cons: If you noticed in my pros, I said it was excellent in most aspects, not all. The one aspect that I did not enjoy was the video mode.

For one, the continuous auto-focus...is VERY loud. when you playback, you can clearly hear the lens going "trek...trek...trek". It might not be a problem of the camera, but the lens's auto-focus motor.

Also, there is no manual exposure for video. I may be a beginner with photography, but not videography. It automatically changes while you take video and it gets very bothersome if you want it to be consistent throughout the video. If you don't care about detail and just want a video, ignore this if you want.

The video mode is the only part that lacks about the D5100 compared to the t3i. Besides that, I say go for it. It is such a great camera.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I bought this camera. I just wish lenses weren't so expensive XD
Also, although I wrote a lot in the Cons section, just that issue couldn't bring it down from a solid 5 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsGood as new

Pros: Was debating between this and the D3200, but only th3 5100 was available refurbed and with the free 32gb card, so that made my choice. Looks just as good as new to me, all accessories included. New for that package would have been almost $700 . Saved almost $200.

2 out of 5 eggsStopped working correctly

Pros: Worked wonderful while it worked.

Cons: Stopped working after about 200 photos and need to send it back in, hopefully it works better when i get it back.

Other Thoughts: I always expect this kind of stuff to happened with refurbished stuff. They should really check their products and make sure they can last for more then a day.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent camera.

Pros: Plenty of information available about the camera elsewhere already. I wanted to just note the quality of this refurbished item.

It looks as if it has never been touched by another person. For all one knows, a single button did not function, and it was sent back to Nikon where it was repaired individually. I always buy refurbished products if I can, and I have never had a problem with it. Often times, the refurbished item goes through a more rigorous testing than the items that just roll off the assembly line. As far as I can tell, this is a brand new perfect item. The only difference is the box says it is a refurbished item.

Cons: I did not receive a DK-5 eyepiece cap with my order. I do not know if the refurbished item does not come with this, or if mine was simply missing. Tiny and cheap, but useful for self-timer or remote shots, to block light from effecting the meter through the eyepiece. The DK-5 does come with the camera when bought new.
