3 out of 5 eggsCool toy, not amazing

Pros: Waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof, small, easy panorama mode, built in GPS and photo tagging, decent quality video and pictures, and surprisingly good mic (considering the form-factor).

The slow-motion modes are pretty fun to play with.

Cons: - Video is in MOV format, which isn't a problem unless you want to edit it in Window. The QT plugin is to blame, but it makes editing a lot of clips from this camera a huge pain.
- Zoom noise is rather obvious and loud during video.
- Looses focus when zooming during video, unless you set it to continually focus, but then it 'hunts' for focus.
- White-balance is pretty unpredictable and inconsistent. When it works, it looks great, but when it doesn't, it's pretty terrible.
- Flash photos are nearly always washed out and/or off color (bad white-balance again).
- Slow-motion is only for 30 seconds, at which time it resets to full speed, and then you have to hit a button to return to slow motion.
- For being a "tough" camera, it's surprisingly not very scratch resistant. (In a single trip, while nearly always keeping it in a case, I managed to scratch the lens and screen.)

... Just a gripe, not really a 'con' but, it does take longer than I'd like to start taking video. I missed a lot of action by a few seconds because of this.

Other Thoughts: While I think the camera is almost there, it's just not. It's so fun to jump into a pool (or go shark diving) with it. But, that will be true of any waterproof camera. Comparing the price of this camera, especially when on sale, there aren't really any competitors.

I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, but I am happy I have it... It's a cool toy and an ok camera. Maybe new firmware will work out some of the issues I've had with it.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat camara

Pros: Great pictures, nice water proofing, over all a great camara. I purchased it for an international trip and was not disappointed. I meet several people from around the world that had this camara so that was kind of funny.

Cons: Boot time not as fast as I would like just a few seconds but could be better, and size is a little bigger than some other digital camara's.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera

Pros: I bought this camera a week before heading to Hawaii, as I had planned a lot of underwater activities. It took great pictures underwater! whether it was in the shark cages, or general snorkeling. For general picture taking, above water, the camera still more then excelled. Video capture was phenomenal as-well, both below water and above. The camera itself feels well constructed & I really like the locking battery door. The GPS is yet another amazing feature of this camera, and I can't count the times it ahs come to great use. PLEASE READ CONS

Cons: I noticed for prolonged underwater adventures, that after about 20min, once back on land, opening the battery door their was a few drops of water(very very minimal) It seems like a great seal but some water did mange to get in. My last day in Hawaii I decided to run & dive into the water with the camera attached to my wrist, after that incident, lots of condensation/water was inside the camera LCD & Shutter. I let the camera dry out & 30min later the camera had no signs of condensation. I re-entered the water and used it snorkeling(down 20feet at times) and to my surprise no water??? i guess lesson learned(no high speed water entering) Last Con is the camera is pretty much junk for any low-light no flash conditions(at least i had found)

Other Thoughts: Overall I got the camera on-sale for $250 and did a phenomenal job for that price point. For all the cool feature this camera has, it's by far one of the best options out there at it's price cost. I Highly recommend this camera for those looking to do lots of underwater activities. Just remember the camera does have some minor flaws, so keep an eye on it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Camera

Pros: It actually works underwater and while underwater it has what 15 mega pixels in a picture of clearity can offer.

Cons: The strap that it comes with is too big. But it is not a big deal considering its shock proof and if you drop it it'll be okay.. and I have already dropped it. Don't need to get my warranty out yet so.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a family friendly camera, and one that can go anywhere, even underwater, this is the camera to get

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: Super fast for a point and shoot, great pic quality. Underwater shots are great and the super slow mow feature is just freakin cool. Also has a lens filter adapter. Paired this things with a polorized lens filter and took some great shots on vacation down in Marco Island. Auto geotagged them for me for easy google earth upload.

Cons: nota

Other Thoughts: you aint gonna break or kill this thing, and it will still take great shots. Do you and the camera justice and get a class 10 mem card

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera

Pros: Takes great pictures. Waterproof feature is nice to have. I have taken it to the beach and swimming, the pictures under water are good.

Cons: The battery life has decreased noticeably from about 2 days to a day, though this could be because of the heavy usage it gets. Oddly the best picture setting is "under water" even when its taking normal pictures.

Other Thoughts: Great camera would buy another one for its rugged features and solid picture quality

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!!!!!!!

Pros: Vibrant screen, great zoom, easy functions and user friendly straight out of the box. In my opinion Nikon hit a home run.

Cons: The only thing I wish it would do is rapid pictures. It's relatively fast for a point and shoot but if you wanted a quick sequence of frames it doesn't appear to be able to do so. I may have missed something in the owners manual concerning this so I will review and update.

Other Thoughts: Got this camera for $259 during the early May sale and I feel like I got a wonderful deal. So far I love everything about it. I added a 32g class 10 media card and have all the space I could ever ask for. Did I mention how easy it is to transfer photos. Wonderful buy, thanks Newegg for another great product.

1 out of 5 eggsDied on the last day of my vacation!

Pros: Was great when it worked

Cons: Died on my first vacation using it.

Other Thoughts: Today is the last day of my vacation on St John. I bought this camera speficially for this trip. After 6 days of snorkeling, this camera was working great! I would rinse it off w/ fresh water at the end of the day, let it dry, and load the pics on my PC. But on our last snorkel today, my daughter saw this amazing lobster (never in 9 years down here have I seen one come out during the day)... I went to take it's pic and some video, and THIS CAMERA WAS DEAD! At first I thought it was the battery, but as I swam on, I saw condensation inside the display. Clearly, water had make its way in.

On top of that, my kids took their first paddle-board lessons today, and I couldnt take pics of that either. Thanks Nikon!

Do not buy this camera. Sure, it's under warranty, but when I get it back - will it die again after 6 uses? I might as well have thrown my money away. Try another waterproof camera if you really want to capture those memories.

4 out of 5 eggsGood tough camera needing software update

Pros: I purchased this phone so that I could both take pictures above ground as well as underwater pictures. I took the phone out on a 10 day vacation and took over 800 pictures.

The phone is very feature rich. I was quite surprised the foreign cities and roads that are contained in the small gps data file. I did tried the panoramic picture before the vacation to test this feature, but did not use this beyond testing it. The clarity of the image seems very good. When comparing the pictures of my older 8MP camera, I was surprised how much better the images looked given the internal optics of the camera. Also, having the compass on the camera was a treat. Though the manual implies the GPS is always running, it seemed like the GPS required several seconds to track each time the camera was turned back on.

Cons: The camera does have many limitations. When taking pictures, the time between pictures was much slower than my older point and shoot camera. Quite long. I was unhappy with the time used to transfer the picture to the SD card. I was using a class 10 card, so I expected this to be better. On several occasions, the camera never completed the job within 5 minutes, so I removed the battery as to reboot the camera. Battery life also appeared to be awful. The manual indicates the GPS is always running, so I turned this feature off without any improvement in battery life. I had to charge the camera every day and it did not make it through 100 pictures.

The buttons on the back of the camera all have pictures and labels for what they do, but the ink used by nikon does not appear to water proof (perhaps for the ocean). The green color was the first to start to wash off. Other labels are still there but several are fading.

Other Thoughts: Some pictures under water turned out great and others not so much. Lighting seemed pretty key and it seemed more of an issue for the photographer than the camera. I only used the camera to about 10ft and suspect lighting will get more difficult at the 33ft depth the camera claims to work at. The waterproof door for the battery, etc appears to be well designed and was easy to use.
