Remember the tricorders on Star Trek? They didn't need any tapes or moving parts to record high resolution sound and video, and now, neither do you! Utilizing both an internal 16GB flash drive AND a removable SDHC memory card, this camcorder uses less power, responds faster, and is more shock resistant than either disk or tape systems. Offering both 24p Cinema and 30p Progressive modes, it can record up to six hours on the internal drive and up to three hours on an 8GB external card, for a grand total of up to nine hours! Technically superior but quirky
- Pros: The quality of the video is outstanding. The fact that it records to flash memory sets it light years ahead of other media based cameras. It is very small, lightweight and does everything I need it to do.
Easily the smallest camcorder I have ever owned. It fits comfortably in your hand and can be stored in your jacket pocket.
Extra SD memory slot to store more video is fantastic.
- Cons: There are some questionable decisions that went into the design of this camera. You can record up to 6 hours of video to internal memory however the battery only lasts about 80 minutes. This makes the purchase of an additional battery (or two) almost mandatory for any all day outing.
A dial is used to select between picture and video mode but there is a different button to record video and take pictures. (???)
The button to take pictures must be pressed firmly, so much so that it makes it hard to keep the camera steady. A few pictures came out fuzzy because of this.
The user interface is not intuitive as it should be. It will give you all the features and options but not in an easy to use fashion.
- Other Thoughts: Lots of Cons listed, why a 5 star rating? It does what I want it to do and it does it well. The ‘cons’ are quirky but most of them can be worked around or are just odd. As long as you are aware of these ahead of time and can accept them it is a great camcorder.
Nice
- Pros: Very compact! Feels like you are holding a water bottle except it is shorter :) Lots of neat features! Out the box - 2 hours on HD mode and 5 hours on standard mode. The battery lasts 90 minutes on a full charge so a spare battery would be nice for long days. Sleek design with a nice handle.
USB 2.0 is decent for transfers
HDMI cable is great straight to the HDTV
It's made by Canon so you know its good =D

great little video camera
- Pros: Small, compact, great color
- Cons: battery life
- Other Thoughts: Believe what everyone else has said about the battery. It dies pretty quick. I'll have a backup battery before going on vacation this summer.
Study the manual. there's a ton of stuff to learn to get all the benefits this camera offers.
Didn't even try to download on an old pc based tower. Not enough horsepower there. Worked great with a new MacBook Pro. No problems whatsoever.
Ordered from Newegg on Tuesday and it was at my house on Wednesday. Great service!
Excellent product
- Pros: This camera shoots at awesome quality video. Slim design and light weight makes it perfect for traveling to just grabbing it for any trips. Was really amazed that during low light a little or no graining was present (this is a weak point of MANY camcorders these days).
Provided software helps easily create DVD's of the video.
- Cons: 1) Video files are somewhat complex to edit on PC at this point (Premier suite doesn't support these files as of today)
2) Quality of still pictures is somewhat poor, a lot of noise and just about even worse than a cell phone ones.
3) The battery life (well also bought an additional one, so not really a con)
- Other Thoughts: If i had a choice to buy it again or to recommend it to a friend, i would so. This is a great camera for the $$$. The cons are easily to overcome with an additional purchase of a battery and digital camera. My only regret is that i bought it months ago and not today (well for obvious price drop).
Other than that it's an excellent piece of equipment every family should have to capture those golden moments that won't repeat in the future.
