- Pros: The electronic display is really nice; it's big, bright, and sharp. People comment on it as soon as they see it. Optical Image Stabilization works well, as does the face recognition. It can easily pick out faces in the frame, but if someone covers their face with their hands, the face recognition box goes away… cool!
I liked the fact that you have a lot of manual controls to play with if you feel artistic- focus and everything. If you simply want to point and shoot, select “Auto” it shoots exceptionally well. The 10x optical zoom is just icing on the cake.
- Cons: The flash takes 3-4 seconds to recharge after a full discharge. While it's recharging, the screen will go blank.
- Other Thoughts: The camera takes 2AA batteries and SD or SDHC memory cards. I like that. I've gotten about 200 shots out of a pair of 2000mAh rechargeable batteries.
The best thing about the SX110 is that you are in control and there's nothing proprietary. This is why I ultimately chose the Canon over the Panasonic TZ5.
Another very good canon
- Pros: This is my second digital camera (first one bought in 2001- canon s45 still going strong).
- Nice, very fast lens. Aperture is what you would get in a nice SLR (f/2.8-4.3). Lens is the main reason I bought this. You can't get such a fast lens in more compact cameras. This is like an SLR. - Zoom is great. 6-60mm. - I love the Image Stabilizer- great when taking zoom pics. - Ease of use. very intuitive. Thats the reason I bought the s45 in the first place and they have kept the same interface. - The scroll wheel is a big improvement. - I am still running on the supplied batteris- 200+ pictures. - The flash is good enough for my use.
- Cons: - s45 was made in Japan with a nice heavy feel. This is made in China. It is an all plastic design. But then, all the other cameras (including SLRs) I could touch and feel in the store were also plastic. ( I guess this is one way they can't cut costs) Only the very compact (read- small lens) had metal cases.
- Other Thoughts: - The bag newegg.com gives is kind of tight. I don't think they have tried to fit the camera in there.
- Also the 2GB card they give is slow (1.5MB/sec write). You need to buy a 133X SD or SDHC and you will be able to take pictures real fast.

I like this camera
- Pros: Bought it for my trip to Europe and it served me very well - taking some great pictures. Love the really high resolution on the thing. Image stabilization works great - especially considering I have the least steady hand imaginable. I also like the retractable flash - that's a great feature when trying to take pictures in sunlight and even low lit-places. Canon also has the best control options of any camera I've ever used.
- Cons: Accidentally broke the screen and Canon's technical support pulled a fast one - charging me $89 to fix it when I sent it in (plus the cost of shipping the thing TO their support offices in Illinois) even though they said the thing was under warranty. Oh well, easy come easy go.
Also the file sizes the thing produces in high resolution are between 2.5 - 3.0MB so if you're taking pictures for internet upload you'll want to use a drastically reduced resolution.
- Other Thoughts: Other than breaking the screen the thing is the best camera I've ever owned. I'll pretty much only buy Canon's since they take the best quality images over anything else I've used. Even though that little incident with tech support happened I'm STILL giving the thing 5 eggs.
Great Camera Right Price
- Pros: This is the only camera i have ever owned that takes more clear pictures than blurry ones. The pictures are absolutely stunning even when zoomed they are crystal clear. Operations on the camera are very smooth and easy to use for point and shoot. This camera is used for casual shooting and we love what it can do. even the kids can snap pictures easily and those come out clear! amazing.
- Cons: none, none, none.
- Other Thoughts: I use the energizer batteries and so far i took 400+ pictures and they're still good I have always owned canon cameras and have yet to be dissapointed.
Great Prosumer!
- Pros: this camera even has manual focus! the zoom is great and so far every pic I've taken has been superb. much better with exposure selection than my old LZ-5. low light performance is great as well - even has adjustable flash output! aperture priority, shutter priority, ISO speed up to 1600, face detection and great macro mode.
- Cons: other reviewers mentioned the clunky battery/SD card door - I agree as well as the door for the transfer cable - they both could be designed much better and more solid. the other con is the flip up flash - you have to remember to flip it up or the camera just compensates and takes the shot without flash - often leading to a darker than desired or fuzzy pic (due to longer exposure). there are so many setting options it takes a while to learn the menus. but the doors are the reason for only 4 eggs - they have me worried that at some point they will break off.
- Other Thoughts: on full auto, this camera takes fantastic pics - people looking at the LZ-5 should just forget about it and get this one - theccd imager is MUCH better and I don't see any issues with the Canon lens system. the lenses are either fully color corrected or its done in software but the result is very pleasing. with the full manual ability, my next project is to make an adapter to use with my telescope for some astrophotography!
