5 out of 5 eggsBest bang for your buck

Pros: This is the best full frame camera for the money. It's been out for quite sometime now and it still holds up very well with the new ones that just came out this year. 21 MP RAW is awesome. You can post process the sh*1 out of them. Has very good low light ISO. You can probably shoot up to 1600 ISO with minimal noise. Very good build. It's weather sealed so you can take pictures in the mother natures elements, but I did hear that it doesn't work too well in the freezing cold.

Cons: Video recording sucks because you can only record 10 minutes. Auto focus can be slow at times. The whole auto focusing system is out of date. File sizes are huge. You'll need to buy an extra hard drive or 2 to store your images. It has slow burst speed of only 3.9 fps so this camera is not that good for action shots.

Other Thoughts: I think I should have bought the Nikon D800 instead. It's only 1K more than this, but I had too much glass for Canon. The 5Dmiii is not worth the extra money. The major improvement is the auto focus system and better ISO. If you're brand new to photography....go with Nikon. They have better cameras and better and cheaper glass. I'll stick with Canon for a couple more years to see if they do anything to rival Nikon.

Also, you're new best friends will be Photoshop and Lightroom. Get to know them well.

5 out of 5 eggswell worth the upgrade

Pros: excellent image quality! shutter sounds nice :), upgrading from a 5Dc and its really worth it! full frame is the only way to go on image quality and dynamic range, colors are crisp and pictures sharp! video is a plus but really haven't tried it that much, I'm an event and wedding photographer for 4 years now and getting this one will also be a plus on me :)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: i have the Canon's 50mm 1.4, 17-40, 24-70 and a 70-200 2.8 and can't wait to try and use them in different situations! happy shooting everyone! and thanks to newegg!!! excellent service as always!!!

1 out of 5 eggsGreat camera, shady deal

Pros: Great camera, great pictures.

Cons: Slow shipping, package with case and memory card is a joke.

Other Thoughts: The camera came advertised with a free tripod, camera case and memory card. The free case is actually smaller than the camera and much too small to fit the camera into and the memory card is an SD card which is not made for this camera that requires CF cards. Called CS, they said that Newegg does not guarantee compatability. What a joke! As if someone who purchases a camera package that includes a free case and memory card wouldnt expect it to fit the camera that they are purchasing!

5 out of 5 eggsStill the king! What a great tool!

Pros: Built for use! 150,000 click shutter, powder coated magnesium body, weather resistant seals, a batter that goes and goes and goes and goes, sits in the hand like it was molded specifically for me!

Image quality is unreal! This thing resolves like a Medium Format camera with the right lenses and a knowledgeable photographer! The detail is insane compared to my 7d and xxd series bodies.

It's true! You can shoot at 1600 all day, and 3200 and even 6400 when you need to and still get superb resolution and very manageable noise. Get to know RAW if you are serious, but what this thing can do with almost no available light is incredible.

Cons: It's not as fast as my 7D. Not meant to be though.

The focusing system is not up to the standard my 7D set. The center point is great though. Use it.

Focus points always visible in the viewfinder. i got used to the slickness of the 7D. i bet we'll see a mark 3 with the focusing system and advanced features from the 7D

Price. Canon definitely wants only serious photographers to have this kind of image performance. For my work, it's ideal though.

Other Thoughts: Proces on these are dropping because of rumors a Mk 3 is on the way. I imagine some of the more advanced interface and focusing features of the 7d will make an appearance, and at a price premium indeed. For the image quality to get any better new technology needs to be developed though, so I doubt the mk3 will be a step up in that dept. If you want the best image performance and can live with the 4 shot/s speed get this now and don't look back.

5 out of 5 eggsHighly recommended!

Pros: Image quality is the best available in the DSLR form. Downsize the 21mp images to the same smaller size as the 12mp Nikon D700/D3 and you get lower image noise. Same noise levels as the Nikon D3S with better color, tone and sharpness. The included DPP software is THE raw image converter. Combined with the Canon lens line; you have the DSLR winner for overall image quality.

Cons: Wish features included Auto ISO parameter controls, dual CF/SD card slots.

Other Thoughts: Newegg is simply the finest retailer in the country. No one else is even close! Thank you!

5 out of 5 eggs5D: You've probably done your homework

Pros: - Great controls (though switching from Nikon to Canon DSLR's I found myself fumbling with some of the toggle wheels until their use became habitual).

- Excellent build quality; very sturdy; for a high tech piece of electronics, it can stand quite a beating

- Great support community out there (whether through Canon or the civilian/professional community)

- Superb footage for such a (relatively!) cheap camera

- Premiere Pro CS5 (and others) now allow straight editing of the h.264 codec so no downtime for changing file types

Cons: - Poor audio quality (high automatic gain)

- I shoot video, and yes this is a DSLR, so it's not exactly built for the ergonomics of filming, so extra accessories are highly recommended

- You'll need to spend about as much on your lens (or two) as you did on the body point in putting so-so glass on such a spectacular piece of equipment

- No 60p recording; h.264 codec leaves something to be desired (great having a full sensor, but the codec can really take away from that) SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE, I hope someone can rewrite the firmware so that RAW data can be streamed from the camera. which brings me to my next point

- No RAW footage and no 1080p HDMI out for external monitor

Other Thoughts: A lot of consumers these days are purchasing the 5D for its video capabilities, which is a smart decision, but you must be doing it for the right reasons. Before you buy this camera for video, which I did as sort of an impulse buy after a little bit of research, ask yourself why you are buying THIS camera. For the work that I do, I maybe should have just purchased a dedicated video camera...there are plenty out there that use Canon or Nikon lens mounts; the benefit of using SLR lenses extends to other equipment. One benefit of the DSLR is its shallow depth of field, which for film making, is a great plus. But which camera would serve you best? The problem with DSLR's is that they are NOT made for video; it has been a nice side effect and with firmware updates, Canon has made the video abilities more firm, but it's essentially still not a video camera. Just do your HW, you won't be sad if you buy this, but KNOW you want it.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome camera

Pros: Full frame, full sized sensor. Robust quality built camera. Quick and accurate focusing. Low high ISO noise. Live view. Long battery life. Fast charging battery. Ergonomically placed controls. Large, sharp LCD screen. Low shutter noise. Sensor sensitive in low light. Weather resistant, has good weather sealing. Versatile.

Cons: Expensive, but worth it. Heavy. Can't use EF-S lenses

Other Thoughts: I've always wanted a full frame digital camera and when Newegg had this one for $150 off I went ahead and bought it. I've used FF film cameras before and miss it. I also have a 60D which though have it's merits there's no comparison with a FF camera. The battery is the same as the 60D so it'll save me from buying new type of batteries. The mode control is different as there's only creative, custom and one automatic picture mode. There's no 'landscape, portrait, low-light, close-up' modes as in other cameras. This camera is more geared to pros and semi-pros so it's up to the user to customize each mode.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera, great deal

Pros: This is a robust solidly built camera and the quality shows. It's also a weather resistant (NOT weatherproof) camera so you can use it in bad weather provided you use the appropriate 'L' lens with it. Focusing is fast and accurate. Also the camera menus is very easy to learn.

Cons: Since it is robust and solid, it's on the heavy side compared to the polycarbonate bodied cameras such as the 60D. If you use this camera with an 'L' lens be prepared because it really gets heavy. Depending on your stamina hiking with this lens will be a bit difficult in the long run.

Other Thoughts: You can read it's features so I won't go there. I already have the Canon 60D and I will be using the 5DII as a primary or secondary camera while traveling or on a regular basis. The reason I got this camera was because of the full frame viewfinder. APS-C viewfinders are fine but nothing compares to FF. Newegg had this camera for $150 off so went ahead and bought it. Though it was free shipping unfortunately it didn't apply to Hawaii but then again the shipping was reasonable. Newegg delivered this camera within a week and watching the delivery status online really helped a lot.
