Pros: In terms of price/performance ratio, this HD camcorder is a good choice. I read a lot of expert reviews and personal reviews online before buying this HD camcorder. I feel that i made a good choice. Some reviewers are complaining about poor performance under low lighting conditions. However, if you understand the fundamentals of photography then you should not be complaining at all. If you want to have an HD camcorder that performs well under low lighting then you have to be ready to pay the price. For $549 no tax and free shipping, i think that this is a good deal for stunning videos in high definition. There are some features for advance users that greatly improves the results of videos taken by this camcorder. But just like everything else you have to spend the time to know your gear to get the most out of it. You must learn both its strength and limitations.
Cons: The package did not provide a separate charger for the battery. The battery must be installed to the camcorder and the power supply connected to charge the battery. Please do not forget to buy a mini HDMI for best results when viewing using your HDTV via HDMI since none is included to keep the cost down. An extra battery may be a good investment in the long run. The included software is of little value but its free. For editing mts files, the best option will be Cyberlick Director 8 for functionality and versatility but Pinnacle Studio will have a shorter learning curve for most people. There are several free conversion tool for converting canon mts files to some format you can view in your computer if your not using windows 7. Just google and download free converters. Sometimes, you might find the need to get wider shots and hence a need for wide angle lens attachment.
Other Thoughts: I used several SD definition camcorders using mini DV, hard drive based, mini CDR/CDRW disc from sony, Hitachi and JVC before going HD using flash memory and the difference is pronounced. The videos taken by this camcorder is stellar under the right lighting conditions and settings. I personally think the canon vixia is a good product line compared to offerings from sony, panasonic and JVC. I used canon DSLR and canon lenses because of the quality of their optics.

Good Camera

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Small, lightweight, very nice LCD screen, Lots of options. Easy to use, once the setups are understood. Good storage capacity, 16G Class 6 card works fine, with 2 hrs storage in HD mode. (standard battery dies before card max reached). Transfer software to PC is easy to use, and DVD's made easily - Correl's video editor works fine, and will automatically make letterbox DVDs with the HD input (for standard TVs). The remote control is a full version - you can access all the menus that the main camera has.
Cons: Canon battery packs are very expensive, and their 'smart battery' function attempts to lock you in to their accessories. Happily, the camera will work with 3rd party components.
Other Thoughts: Others have complained about low ligh performance, but they were probably using the full-auto mode that extends the shutter speed, resulting in 'grain' and smearing. By setting to fixed shutter speed, and adjusting the aperture with the exposure adjust, recording is fine. I have even imaged the planet Jupiter directly, and the moon!

Pros: This is a great camera. I am not sure what the other reviewers are talking about when they get blurry pictures. There are plenty of modes to choose from for specific needs. So if you are taking moving target shots then maybe that is a different mode. I took video and pics and not one came out badly. If you are taking dark room pics there are some adjustments that need to be made i admit. If you have it on easy mode then the don't expect perfect. Make the adjustments yourself. Don't be lazy. :)
Cons: This model uses only SD Cards. Can be costly if u need more then one. Spend a little more for the hard drive version.
Other Thoughts: Best HD camera for the price still.
