Absolutely Recommended
- Pros: This is a tiny little camera that fits easily into a small purse or a shirt or pants pocket. When you walk around with it, it nearly disappears in your hand and does not "show" when you wish to take quick, unnoticed pictures.
The camera works very well and is ready to shoot in an instant. The automatic feature functions perfectly, but so do the other features.
Its menus are logical and easy to understand and apply. Picture quality is great, and with a 4Gig card you have plenty of space to work with. Battery life is excellent.
- Cons: None I can think of.
- Other Thoughts: Canon excels!
Awesome compact point-and-shoot DC
- Pros: Compact; works well under dim-light condition (except for the cons below); Vista x64 recognizes the camera immediately without installing any additional software; shoots casual videos fine, now dubbed as our cheap digital video camera; video capturing allows optical zoom.
- Cons: Under dim light, the automatically selected ISO setting (usually 800) will produce somewhat grainy pictures, and the camera tends to jump to high ISO setting easily. It can be easily fixed by manual setting, or use any free (like Paint.NET) or expensive (like Photoshop) softwares.
- Other Thoughts: My laptop can read SDHC cards but not my desktop (with an older card reader). However, the Vista x64 the latter runs recognizes this camera (with USB cable, included) immediately so there is no need for an extra reader. This camera fits into any pocket I have, and my favorite use of it now is its video function so I can show our baby's video to family living far away. I did not yet install any of the software Canon provided so I cannot comment on them. I tend to limit software installation anyway.
Great for a point and shoot
- Pros: Fast startup; I can whip out the camera and get the shot I want. Auto mode; if I don't want to mess around with different functions the auto mode actually does a good job (sometimes pics are a bit over-exposed but overall it does well). Small size; fits in a small purse or front shirt pocket. User-friendly; I find Canon camera menus easy to follow.
- Cons: As everyone else keeps pointing out the cheap plastic cover for the battery and memory disc slot is the biggest con. It is really flimsy compared to the rest of the body and it will probably be the first thing to fail/fall off/break. Also the little plastic cover for the USB cable is awkward because it doesn't extend out fully and is also cheap.
- Other Thoughts: My previous Canon (PowerShot A520) still works but it was getting old. One of the first things to "go" was the lens cover. The spring failed extending and retracting the lens cover and eventually I ended up just ripping off the whole lens cover gismo (I had an exposed lens). I have noticed with other Canons (point-and-shoots specifically) owned by friends that the lens cover commonly fails. I think if Canon put a little more time and research into it they could come up with a better system. Granted I owned my A520 for almost 5 years without any big problems, I guess a lens cover isn't a big issue.
