A GOOD HIGH END SMALL CAMERA
- Pros: A VERY HIGH END LCD SCREEN, THE EXTRA ZOOM IS NICE IN A SMALL COMPACT CAMERA, GREAT PICTURE QUALITY AND STRONG CONSTRUCTION.
- Cons: (ACTIVE DISPLAY) WHAT WAS THEY THINKING???
- Other Thoughts: ABOUT THE SAME SIZE AND WEIGHT AS THE CANON SD790-SD880, ALL THREE CAMERAS TAKE GREAT PICTURES. I LIKE THE SHARPNESS AND COLOR IN THE 970s PICTURES. THE FLASH TAKES 3.5 secs TO RECHARGE AND IN (LOW LIGHT) UP TO 6secs... VERY GOOD BATTERY LIFE.. THIS IS A VERY NICE CAMERA.
Almost good
- Pros: * Great images
* Good zoom * Easy to use * Large LCD
- Cons: * Broke down
* Slower than previous model (SD870) * "Smart" mode selection (aka auto) easily gets confused by shooting conditions
- Other Thoughts: Bought as a replacement for broken SD870 at Costco. Liked it, but in difficult shooting conditions auto mode easily confuses which mode to choose, not always detects faces correctly, doesn't detect closed eyes until picture has been taken. Not always achieves focus. However it is not a problem since this is a pocket camera. What caused me to return it was malfunction in the lense cover. At first it wouldn't close w/o gentle touch, but later it wouldn't open either until touched. Thanks to Costco return policy I've got out w/o any loss. However they don't have any in any of their stores close by and pulled it from their site. wink wink.
Excellent Compact Camera
- Pros: Excellent picture quality.
Very sharp HD video. Very bright, high resolution 3" LCD display. Good battery life.
- Cons: No wide angle.
- Other Thoughts: Spent several days looking for a point & shoot camera.
Finally settled on this model and have no regrets. Wish it had a wide angle lens. Several other P&S cameras that I looked at did have a wide angle lens but what really sold me on this camera was the high resolution (461K, twice the resolution of all the other compact cameras I looked at) screen which is very bright and easy to see, even in full sunlight! That is probably why Canon eliminated the viewfinder on this camera. It is not needed! I paired this camera up with an A-Data 16GB SDHC and the memory card has plenty of speed for the HD video as well. This camera replaces my Kodak DX7440 camera as my primary camera. The Kodak has served me well over the years and still takes good looking pictures. I can't believe how far the technology for digital cameras has advanced in a few short years since I bought my 4 MP Kodak.
