With the SmartAUTO intelligent shooting module, the SD780 IS selects the proper settings for your photos based on the 18 predefined shooting situations, for the perfect shot! The New Face Self-Timer lets you get into the picture with the camera waiting until it recognizes an additional face before taking the shot.

Red-eye can be eliminated automatically or manually within the camera. Additional settings let you take control of the entire picture-taking process with 20 shooting modes. Printing straightly with the camera by selecting SELPHY and PIXMA photo printers. Life happens – capture it with the PowerShot SD780 IS.

5 out of 5 eggsTiny, Good for small hands

Pros: A very decent camera with the whole host of improvements made to other Canon models in the last year or so, but at an entry price. One we've found particularly useful (that hasn't been as useful on past models) is the "Kids and Pets" mode. Amazing shutter speed and accurate light capturing have allowed us to catch action shots of the puppy and child that we never thought possible. Amazing clarity!

Tiny! To give you a real idea, think of an Altoids tin. In fact, there's a modder out there who made a padded case for it out of an Altoid tin, so it's quite small.

Cons: As others have noted, the video (even at 720p) is just average. Where still photos shine even with indoor lighting, videos particularly suffer. In low or moderate lighting, the 720p is overshadowed by a very high degree of "grainyness" or noise. It suffices for what we need, especially given it's use as a backup to our Vixia HF (our real video camera).

The tiny size is a plus for my wife, but almost makes for a bit of a burden when I try to use it. I feel a bit like a grown-up riding a child's tricycle when I take a picture. :)

Other Thoughts: Stunning photos, tiny size, very attractive camera (prettier even than the images on Newegg can show), average video.

5 out of 5 eggscanon PowerShot SD 780 IS

Pros: Small, did I say Small. Great pictures on Auto. The Video is incredible. The battery life is good. Very easy to operate with every feature you could want on a "very small" camera.
Fits in your shirt pocket.

Cons: The sound on the Video could be better but is adequate.

Other Thoughts: I bought this camera for my wife and she has very limited (none) experience with digital cameras. With this camera on Auto she takes pictures like a pro. I could not have bought her a camera that would have made her any happier. This is a perfect camera for vacations and outdoor activities as it takes up very little space in your purse for pocket yet is as good as a larger camera.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Pictures are great quality. A simple search for sd780 under google images will give you plenty of examples. Easy to use.

Cons: 720p video is nothing spectacular at all. You can get clips from youtube for examples.

Other Thoughts: 5/5 due to buying for a camera, not for video recording. My wife nor I are any kind of professional photographers. We just want something that will take good pictures of the kids and this does the job very well. Paired with the a-data class 6 16gb sdcard

5 out of 5 eggsBest point and shoot EVER

Pros: This this is great and well worth the money! (I paid $300 when it came out). Grab one while they're in stock. This thing has every feature you'd ever want and more! HD video is great for every occasion.

Cons: Get a leather case with strap for it, I know it's supposed to be a "pocket camera" but I had mine in my pocket and it jumped out. It cost me $75 to replace the broken LCD screen at Canons repair website (still cheaper than buying a new camera so it's worth it!).

Other Thoughts: Everyone seems to be listing their systems these days so here it goes:
RAIDMAX Scorpio case | Corsair 650w | Asus p6T mobo | Intel i7 920 (Quade-core @ 2.66GHz) | ZEROtherm core 92 heatsink w/fan | G.Skill DDR3 1600 3x1GB Gaming Memory (upgrading soon) | 2x Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB 7200RPM 32mb Cache Hard drives | Asus 22x DVD burner | 2x EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 1GB DDR3 Video Cards running in SLI | all in one memory card reader | Hanns-G 25" Widescreen LCD | Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

4 out of 5 eggsAverage Camera

Pros: It takes decent pictures and takes 720p video. The feature I love most is its extremely fast start up time, but its small size is a very close second.

The face detection self timer is nice but sometimes takes forever to take the picture and keeps flashing so I wonder if it has taken the picture or not. I also like the custom timer up to 30 secs and can take up to 10 pictures. Battery life is great, went on vacation (7 days) and took hundreds of pics, didn't have to charge it at all and had battery left over when I got back.

Cons: Pictures are not always as crisp as I would like, but it is not a SLR camera. The the viewfinder window is in the middle of the camera which makes it nearly impossible to hold up to your eye unless you don't have a nose. But the LCD viewer works fine

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't come with a memory card!

Pros: Not much to say about this camera, since it was a gift I purchased for someone else...though I do own a different PowerShot, and in general they are a great line of compact cameras.

Cons: No memory card! Be sure you pick one up, as this item (as offered by Newegg) doesn't even come with a basic memory card, and can't be used without it.

Other Thoughts: I've bought PowerShot cameras before, and they always come with memory...not sure why this one doesn't. Maybe Newegg could give customers a heads-up?

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect point & shoot

Pros: small, light, takes rechargeable battery pack

Cons: some of the more artistic programming can be confusing to set/navigate to at first

Other Thoughts: I love Canon. I had a 3.2 MP of this same camera model and it STILL takes great pictures! The only reason I bought a new one is because I busted the LCD on the other one.
The time it takes from when you press the "take a picture" button to when it records is less than a second. This is a landslide better than ANY other digital camera I've owned, used, tested out at the store, or a friend had. This is the biggest selling point with me as you don't want to miss a once in a lifetime photo opportunity.

Always takes crisp, clear photos. No messing around. I am young and on the go a lot and it is always ready when I need it. Conversely, my mom is old and slow and confused easily and after a couple times navigating the menus, doesn't have any problems either.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera

Pros: The camera has a great battery life, beautiful LCD Screen, takes fantastic HD Videos in daylight and okay videos in low light (which is expected) and is very easy to use. We needed a simple point and shoot camera to replace an old kodak camera. This camera has great features like 720p HD recording. The video looks great and sounds great. Would recommend to anyone needing a simple point and shoot camera.

Cons: Non Yet
