1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: takes great video and excellent photos of anything stationary, has plenty of options and good battery life..

Cons: if you plan on taking pictures of anything that moves and you aren't gonna use it on a tripod, this camera will be worthless.... i don't like it's extremely slow shutter speed and it takes better pictures at 8 mp than 12.1 mp... it would be nice if i could take pics of my house, but because Earth rotates too fast, 8/10 times they come out blurry...

Other Thoughts: i wanted something that was inexpensive but could take great pics while in motion, zoom doesn't matter to me nor does a flash... i would rather not have either of those options and have a camera that works like it's 2009-10 and not 1809-10...

5 out of 5 eggsTAKE IT EVERYWHERE!!!!!

Pros: EXTREMELY small, like shockingly small. The upshot of this is you can carry it around with you everywhere you go, without noticing it. Basically take a pack of cards, cut about a half inch off the "long" dimension, round the edges, and you have the size of this camera. Pictures are extremely nice and the video is also very nice. They say the best camera is the one you have with you, and believe me, this is that camera. I have a pocket on my favorite jacket over my left side of my chest, and this and my cell phone fit in there with more than enough room to spare. I have a six-year-old, and when i am out and about with him, whenever the mood or lighting is right, bam, I have my camera with me!

Cons: the white balance is a bit "off" with compact flourescent bulbs. normal flourescent isnt quite right, and neither is incandescent. this is easily fixable in photoshop, but it is an issue. ive also had some red-eye but that happens with all cameras, especially small ones with the flash near the lens.

Other Thoughts: Need scratch protection for the LCD display? Get some simple heavy-duty shipping tape and simply tape over the LCD's glass screen. Trim with a razor blade and you have instant and almost free protection. I did this with my phone too (blackberry style smartphone), and its lasted more than a year without having to change the tape.

4 out of 5 eggsI love my ELPH

Pros: compact, good quality picture, great features,

Cons: buttons are a little on the small side and harder to use. The new design is sleeker and more rounded but I prefer the slightly larger buttons. I expect a man with large hands might find this frustrating.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend this camera. It is a great point and shoot. This is my 3rd canon ELPH camera.
My first was purchased around 2002 (with a 1.5" LCD screen) I lived in Costa Rica and traveled around Central America, It was small tough and dependable.
I bought my second ELPH preceding a trip to Thailand a few years ago. Again I could have been happier. And everyone else on my trip was quite impressedwith that camera and quality of pictures.
I only had to buy this 3rd camera because I lent my 2nd camera to a friend who didn't close the lens before striking it against some hard object. Yikes. I still love this camera and would recommend it for most. My only complaint are the smaller, harder to use buttons.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent ultracompact

Pros: Compact, fast response, decent quality photos, built well (took a 4-5 foot drop on hard tile w/o a scratch)

Cons: Limited zoom, limited features (next to no manual control and few picture modes), tight controls, the first box looked opened and there was a uncleanable speck on lens. I RMA'd and Newegg handled it like a champ!

Other Thoughts: Photo quality is comparable to my old 8.1mp Lumix but with lower noise. I'm not seeing any improvement in detail though with the Canon's 12mp. No underwater mode was a big disappointment. I wanted to buy the waterproof casing (Canon leader in offering cases for their cameras that can go to decent depths) so I could take it diving but there is no underwater mode, so I will probably gift/sell it and buy another canon with underwater mode (otherwise, a lot of Photoshop work required)

4 out of 5 eggsDurable and Small

Pros: Small, light, and easy to use. I was blown away by the HD video. I went to a concert and the audio wasn't overblown either. I think this was meant for the type of non-professional use I wanted. Good battery life. Excellent price.

Cons: Sometimes the colors look like pastels depending on the other colors in the frame. It makes everything have a weird makeup effect. Its not horrible, and sometimes I like it.

Other Thoughts: Get a large memory card so you can record lots of video! I can't stress how fun the video is.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall, competant point and shoot camera

Pros: 1. Very small and easy to carry in a shirt or jeans pocket.
2. Uses the common Cannon controls if you are familiar with them
3. picture colors are very vibrant with no noticeable peripheral distortion, and sharpness is good.
4. Excellent pics can be taken at 8 mega pixels (rather than 12) for average use to help keep file size down.
5. Boot up time, inter pic time, and flash delay are short.

Cons: The optical viewfinder and control buttons are very small. I found myself using a fingernail to turn the camera on and off and use the settings. Not easily usable for those with large hands. Battery life is less than my Canon SD 1000. 200 shots max with a recharge. Get a spare. Couldn't get the self timer face recognition delay to work well. (you set the self timer and it doesn't go off till you get your puss in the picture).

Other Thoughts: After reading reviews detailing the lack of quality of the sensor compared to the 800 series, I was pleasantly surprised with the picture quality. The new digic 4 processor does a good job in low light. This is a typical Canon point and shoot camera in a very compact size. If you are upgrading from an earlier model, don't worry-the pics will be just as good.
