5 out of 5 eggsJust what I wanted

Pros: I spent some time reviewing cameras online. My goals were firstly a great picture and secondly easy to use, thirdly good manual controls for when I get more experienced. This camera is perfect. The first time I used it on full automatic, I came away with some truly great photos. Best camera for the beginning wanabe pro.

Cons: No lens cap holder. Should buy a lens cup.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good value

Pros: This camera is a very good value for the money. 15MP, clear and sharp display (It has one of the best display quality out of all the competitors, 920k pixels vs 230k pixels in Nikon D5000), easy menus and navigation, button layouts, solid body, nice grip, and the list goes on. It does record HD videos in 720p and 1080p at 30/20 fps. nice playback options as well. ISO settings can go up to 12,800 (It's main competitor Nikon D5000 only goes up to 6400). The camera works very well with the flash where the background doesnt get too dark. Also, good bettery life, better than what the papers say

Cons: Although it is a very nice camera, it is not perfect. the camera is rather on a smaller side and grips, so if you have big hands, it might be bit uncomfortable to handle. It has continuous shooting mode of 3.4 fps but if you're into shooting some fast scenes, it may not be fast enough for you (also it is not the fastest out of its competitors, Nikon D5000 has 4fps). 1080P recording is bit disappointing also at only 20 fps.

Other Thoughts: If you are buying an DSLR camera for the first time, this camera is very good. Now, if you wanted to just take pictures, i would recommand either rebel xs or rebel xsi because they're cheaper but still take good quality pictures, but if you were looking for a camera with video recording capabilities, T1i is very good. I almost don't feel the need to get T2i, if you wanted to record videos a lot, then just get a digital camcorders at much cheaper price.
The software that comes with is very useful as well and it's for free.
I'm very happy with the purchase and I can't not wait until i get different lenses for me to experiment.

P.S, do some research people! there are many websites out there that can give you helpful information before spending hundreds of bucks!

5 out of 5 eggsCanon Quality

Pros: Great price, Canon quality, great photo quality, HD video quality is good in 720p mode, choppy in 1080i due to a max of 20 fps.

Cons: HD vid eats up the memory card really fast....about 50% faster than my Canon HD camcorder for some reason. If you are looking to use a Canon DSLR camera for HD video, I would recommend going with a T2i or better, unless you're happy with 720p quality.

Other Thoughts: Picked this up along with the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 MKII printer. The rebate not only made the printer free, it saved me an extra $50 on the camera. I bought the body only and picked up the Canon EFS 15-85 USM lens locally, which is a great walk around combo. For the price you pay, it's a great camera for a novice or wannabe pro.

I took it to Hawaii in October and took about 1500 pics, capturing both RAW & JPEG format for every shot. The Canon software that allows you to make adjustments to the RAW shots is an awesome feature. You can make your good shots even better with the adjustments to the RAW photos before converting them to JPEG.

5 out of 5 eggs6 eggs

Pros: This camera is a marvel for the price, with the rebate I got the camera and the Pixma Pro9000 printer for $430 for both items. Amazing price, Amazing camera. Combined with choice lenses, this setup shoots startlingly clear photographs. All of the controls are well labeled, well placed, and easy to manipulate. I am waiting for more lenses to go on sale to get the full potential out of this camera, but I am glad I went with this one instead of another brand. I spend money on nice lenses to go with this figuring they would outlast the camera body, but I do not feel as though I've settled with this camera.

Cons: None

4 out of 5 eggsGood Camera

Pros: Great camera for the money at the time. Today I'd buy a though. Even though this is not a video camera it shoots only 720 at 30fps. 1080 is a a weird frame rate. T2i solves these issues.

Cons: 1080 frame rate.

Other Thoughts: N/A

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Entry Level Camera

Pros: Easy to use and very ergonomic. This camera feels very good in your hands and you can operate all of the functions with just your right hand. Decent images up to 800 ISO. Live mode is great when using a manual focus lens, you can zoom in very close and make sure you get precise focus.

Cons: Soft images. I have a couple of very good lenses and if I put them on a 50D (which has the same 15.1 Megapixel Chip used in the T1i) the picture is much sharper. You can play with the settings to get a bit more sharpening in the image in camera or shoot RAW and then post process yourself. AF is not always as accurate as you'd like.

Other Thoughts: Video: The video function is a novelty. If you buy a dedicated camcorder that takes stills, the quality is poor like a Point and shoot. If you get the T1i, you get a video function that is great for situation like portraits photography. If a person is sitting still or not moving to or from the camera, its great. But don't expect to go and shoot for national geographic. Focus is very slow or you need to go manual. Don't buy this camera over another simply because it does video. Save the money and get a dedicated video camera.

5 out of 5 eggscanon T1i

Pros: this camera is AWSOME If you are a dummie you can operate it. You can also go into advanced modes and get some great quality pics, what i like most is i can set it to get great black an white photos, and do some other cool things. Lets face it if you want a high def video camera buy a high def video camera not a slr digital camera this should be used primarly for still pics the video is just a plus that is not its primary purpus.

Cons: the only con is with auto focus some times it will key in on the wron thing and i have to go to manual but that is it, i replaced my xsi with this cam and am not un happy

Other Thoughts: love this camera, if you get this now get it with the canon printer wide format printer deal 9500 mark II
you will be extremly pleased

5 out of 5 eggsGreat features for price

Pros: - High resolution; great image quality.
- HD video;
- More pro features than I could have dreamed of affording just a couple of years ago.

Cons: - Autofocus motor really loud and distracting during video capture.

Other Thoughts: Great camera, wonderful still image and HD video. Excellent set of features for the price.

3 out of 5 eggsOK Camera, Poor Customer Service

Pros: Takes nice pictures. Reasonable upgrade to my Rebel XT as it should be. Movie mode is functional if a bit awkward. The larger LCD is great and the Live View can be useful.

Cons: Doesn't feel as "solid" as my old camera. They seemed to have scaled back on the bundled software. An HDMI cable would have been a welcome accessory. Very disappointed in Canon's customer support. They demonstrated a complete lack of flexibility in asisting me with an issue and the front line phone support was downright rude. For a line of products that depends so much on customer loyalty, I was expecting more of a "go the extra mile" experience. Fortunately lenses hold their value enough that one can make the move to Nikon without taking too much of a hit.

Other Thoughts: The NewEgg portion of the purchase was smooth as usual.
