Pros: Excellent daylight picture quality. Good picture quality for low-light and night shots, especially after you take control of some of the settings (especially ISO - keeping it under 400 really helps). Fast, shutter lag in non-existent once the exposure and focus are set - makes it much easier to capture those split-second moments. Slow synchro flash option, and 3 levels of flash output in manual mode. Fully manual controls. Good choice of semi-automatic controls. Optical image stabilization - and it works, too!! AA batteries - try buying a proprietary Li-Ion or charger at a gas station. Good zoom lens, decent optics. Small enough to carry around - thus, when the perfect shot shows up, you'll have something to capture it with. Decent continuous drive mode. Standard USB cable. Good, intuitive, easy to use menus. AA alkaline batteries and 128 MB SD card included - so you can test your camera right out of the box.
Cons: No printed user's guide - just a quick reference guide. No viewfinder - although the LCD does a good job by itself. Battery level indicator - it would be nice to get more than a "Low battery" indicator. Once you see it, you can take another 20-30 shots with a set of NiMH batteries. Some purple fringing along the edges, especially when transitioning from an overexposed area to something a lot darker. Not a lot, though - I've seen much worse. No optical zoom during movie recording - only digital. No 3:2 picture aspect ratio - only 4:3 and 16:9 No automatic exposure bracketing mode - it can be done manually, without too much hassle.
Other Thoughts: I've spent a long time looking for a camera that can be taken everywhere, has a decent optical zoom, can take good pictures, has fully manual controls and runs on AAs. This is it. Ni-MH rechargeables are cheap and easy to find, and if you can't keep those charged and ready to go, you won't do any better with a proprietary battery. Could benefit from longer exposure times, and smaller apertures - but the available selection covers about 95% of the situations that you would encounter in day to day photography. Overall, I would give it 4.5 eggs - it's not perfect, but for this price, you can't beat it.

Pros: Nice zoom range Variety of features AA compatible
Cons: Size a little bit too large
Other Thoughts: In response to review posted by '' on 9/1/2009: AA battery compatibility is a huge plus when you are on the road, and it is always easier to find a couple of AAs than power outlet. The 400 pictures battery rating applies to AA rechargeables (NiMH, around 2500 mAh capacity) not one-time use disposables.

Pros: Very Nice Zoom. Big Screen. LOTS of Features.
Cons: Not an SLR....
Other Thoughts: The only reason that I took an egg was the fact that after using for about 1 week almost half of the pictures could not be accessed through the camera, said that they were an unsupported format even though they were taken with the camera. I could transfer them and veiw them on a pc though.

Perfect Compromise!
Reviewed By: rck1979 on 2/22/2010
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: 10x Zoom, Size, Flip up flash, Quality of pictures, Only needs 2 AA batteries.
Cons: No zoom during video recording.
Other Thoughts: I have owned a Cano Powershot S3 and loved it but found it too bulky too carry all the time. I then tried a Canon A1100, the size was great but the lack of long zoom and the quality of pictures was less than I wanted. Then I found this! It was the perfect compromise: good quality photos, long zoom and could fit in my coat or shirt pocket. The flip up flash is also a great plus. A very quick and convenient way to turn the flash off. I also love the fact that it only needs 2 AA batteries to operate, though I would recommend good rechargeable batteries.

Love this camera
Reviewed By: Mikeinstpete on 1/22/2010
Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: I've had this camera about a year, and have found it to be exceptional with all the features and design. The one I have is a 9 megapixel sx110 but seems identical in all other respects to this camera. The only thing better than this would be a TTL digital and you won't come near it for the price of this one. I have used this camera on numerous trips and special occasions with great results. With a 4 gig SDHC card I've never lacked for digital storage. I like the size as I find it easier to hold onto than smaller cameras,
Cons: It's hard to think of a con with this camera.
Other Thoughts: How can people comment on products they haven't had long enough to use and fully understand. A day or so doesn't make them knowledgeable in my opinion.
