  • newegg Experience the Power The Canon HS SYSTEM takes the frustration out of low light shooting. The system delivers clear, blur-free shots with all the ambiance intact, and frees you from the sometimes unwanted effects of using the flash. Beautiful low light shots are possible at both low and high ISO speeds, and the dynamic range is expanded to retain maximum detail in highlight and shadow areas. The system is the result of two technologies brought together in a compact PowerShot. The first is the 12.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, which positions the light-receiving surface for optimal light reception. More light means clearer, blur-free images with plenty of detail and nuance, even in dark areas. Working together with the CMOS sensor to deliver the HS SYSTEM is Canon's advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor, which actively reduces noise and delivers high speed image processing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: This Great color and resolution, great manual mode features. HD video. Cool looking. Nice zoom. Lots of powerful features like CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4. I like the wheel to scroll though pictures. GPS is a nice feature for travelers. Nice accessories available like underwater case, for example.

If you want crisp, colorful photos that are in focus, this camera can do it.

Cons: Canon calls this camera "Red". It's closer to magenta. Definitely a "girls" camera in this color. The popup flash takes some getting used to.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for my wife to upgrade from our Canon PS A560. I looked at nikons and sonys, but I wanted to get a similar interface to minimize the learning curve. She loves this camera, uses auto mode almost exclusively. I like to get into all of the manual features. Its a really fun camera. We need to document our infants life and this camera does the job nicely. If you want a powerful camera in a tight package, this is for you. I dropped in a SanDisk 8GB Extreme SDHC Class 10, works nicely and writes fast, decreasing downtime between shots.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Camera!!!

Pros: Amazing quality zoom, auto focus, image stabilization, low light quality, lots of adjustable settings, small form factor that fits in your pocket, picture editing, auto rotation on image review, mini HDMI, and extremely minimal lag for saving pictures. I've used other cameras that take forever to process and save images and videos. This one is really fast and I've used a few different SD cards with it (Class 6 and 10).

Cons: I turned down the LCD brightness to the lowest setting and I still run through batteries pretty easily. I can record about 4-5 songs at 4 minute length at a concert on a full charge. Battery life is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5.

The low light quality is so good I don't need to use the flash ever. Every time I power on the camera the flash tries to pop open. I can't find a setting to disable it so I just hold my finger over it.

Other Thoughts: I don't consider myself to be a camera pro, but this camera performs much better than what I expected from any point and shoot camera. I bought it for pictures and videos at concerts and it does an excellent job.

Get extra batteries online from E-b-a-y...they cost an arm and a leg on Newegg and local stores.

4 out of 5 eggsDust in the lens

Pros: Low light, 1080P, manual focus

Cons: menu is somewhat hard to get used to

Other Thoughts: Within one week I had three big dust particles/lint in the lens. Not sure if this had an impact on the facus, but after a couple of weeks the focus woudl not work properly in either photo or video mode. Had to return it for a refund. This woudl be an excellent camera if the lens retractor would actually keep dust out. Dust in the lens in common for p&s cameras, but I have never seen this much dust in any p&s.

4 out of 5 eggsRed = Pretty in Pink!

Pros: Don't know, have not used this camera yet.

Cons: The pictures of the red color are misleading here on NewEgg. The red is really pink. Do a search & you will find better color representations on other sites so you know what it really looks like.

Other Thoughts: Also the one I received appears to have been a previous return due to tape on the camera box & how the items were packed. Returning as I don't want a pink camera.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems good

Pros: Takes clear photos without a lot of fiddling, but has the options if you want them.

Cons: The autofocus gets confused on macro setting sometimes, for example I was trying to get a spider and it kept refocusing on the house across the street. Manual focus was adequate but even with the auto zoom feature, it was hard to be sure of the precision of my focus.

The popup flash is right where the left hand wants to grip, especially before turning the camera on. Annoying but only mildly so.

Other Thoughts: I haven't used this extensively for family or scenic photos; I've mostly been using it to catalog things too awkward to scan that needed enough detail to get small text. My old 5mp Olympus finally had sensor problems, and the $100 Fuji replacement was too inconsistent at providing details, so I tried this. So far it does the trick, but the mp race doesn't really tell one much about the quality of the picture.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent high-end point n shoot

Pros: First and foremost, this camera takes amazing photos. Autofocus is very good. It also has most of the features you would expect to find in a DSLR in a very compact form factor (but not too small to be awkward). I did not buy from newegg but I'm thinking of buying a second one.

Cons: Does not have exposure bracketing which is surprising to me for a camera with so many features. Some of the features are more difficult to find than my old Canon (A560) but I'm still getting used to the camera.

Other Thoughts: Warning GPS is NOT turned on by default out of the box, and turning it on is at the bottom of a set-up menu (have to scroll down). I bought this camera for a trip to Hawaii but alas most the pics didn't get GPS.
