1 out of 5 eggsaweful aweful aweful software design

Pros: the camera seems to record video fine

Cons: The camera (I have an vixia HF R20, not 21, but Canon claims it records mp4 as well) records .mts files not mp4 files. Nothing seems to handle them right. The enclosed software only runs on windows and only converts files to various web and phone formats (not allowing you to really select file type or resolution) and it shrinks the '1080i' from the camera to 720 on convert. MTS converters for windows all seem to want at least $35. Macintosh cannot find the drive when the cameras plugged in, and it automatically records to its internal memory (8gb). I can't figure out how to make it record to the 32 gb sd card i have in it. it just stops and says memory is full. i can select card a or b for photos, but not video. Handbrake (linux program) seems to be handling the mts to mp4 convert fine though i haven't tested it as its been cranking on the first (somewhere between 2 and 5 minute) file for around 20 minutes (80% done). I seem to remember the camera not even showing up on linux

Other Thoughts: last week, but its working now. i have spent uncounted time and aggravation on this idiotic device, and am going to be late on my project because of it. also the enclosed Pixela Video Browser says it won't install (back to windows, now) until you uninstall the enclosed Pixela File Transfer utility, and the file transfer utility won't open unless the camera is attached and on, and the 'export video' button is for exporting video TO the camera, not converting to a common file type (why would i ever export video TO a video camera. I thought i was going to be able to make this work, but seeing as I can't record video to the SD card i think i'll have to return it. Do not even think about buying this camera.
