Pros: I am not an expert on cameras, tho I have tinkered and studied on them since about 1970. I have owned many Canons, and can attest to their quality and value for the price paid.
I usually spend about $200 or less on small cameras, I used to get the big ones with replaceable lenses, but there is just too much to lug around.
This size is great. The reason it is more expensive than the other small cameras is that it uses a bigger sensor. That is the most important part of the camera nowadays, now that they almost all have nice lenses and processors.
Cons: Only Don is the price, if you can afford to drop this or lose it, it is worth the price to have the better images that approach the Big DSLR sized cameras results. They use sensors that are about the same size as the old 35mm cameras.
Bigger the sensor, the less noise and more contrast and brightness range. They will do better with movies also, tho not as much as one might think.
Other Thoughts: This camera will give slightly better pictures than most small cameras with the smaller sensors, but not nearly as good as the big DSLRs do.
The quality of the picture is almost in direct proportion to the size of the sensor.
So IF you wonder why the price difference in this compared to the other compact cameras, the sensor is the difference. That and a few other less important goodies like DIGIC 5 instead of DIGIC 4 (processor generation labels) that give things like not shooting when someone is blinking.
