4 out of 5 eggsGood starter

Pros: Bought as a gift for my kid and she loves it. She has taken some really nice photos both close up and far away, hasn't yet done much with its movie mode.

Cons: Battery life could be a little better.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this camera

Pros: Fantastic camera. has all of the bells and whistles.. Great price too!!! Took it to a marine life show, looked like I was about 5 feet away from the dolphins. The little auto sensors are great for telling you what kind of pics to take, or just think it for you..

Cons: Wish it had a battery pack instead of 4 aa batteries.. Those things never last long in a camera.

3 out of 5 eggsAwful for video

Pros: It takes very good photos

Cons: Video. The video is just awful. There is no external mic input and there is a persistent audio that is very high pitched which makes for awful videos where you need sound. The auto-focus is also very slow on video and pictures.

3 out of 5 eggsVanilla Ice Cream toppings

Pros: Excellent zoom, good ergonomics, good battery life for $$$. Takes excellent photos with brilliant color in good lighting conditions. HD Video is very nice. Panorama mode is a great feature--very easy to use.

Cons: A...u...t...o...f...o...c...u...s... ... ... zzzzzzz
It's slow, but not consistently so, which is baffling. About one time in ten you'll push the shutter release button and get nothing. Three or four times in ten you'll get a 1/2 to 1 second delay. The other five it's fine.

Depressing shutter release button halfway helps, sometimes, but doesn't solve the problem consistently.
Flimsy battery door cover.

I hope that I can figure out a solution to the autofocus issue, but it's definitely not an out-of-the-box friendly camera. I'm willing to 'fiddle' with it, but my wife doesn't want to have to strategize when she goes to take a picture.

Other Thoughts: I'm still learning the ins and outs of this camera and hope that I'll grow to like it more as I get better acquainted. Coming from a Canon A540, this is clunky in comparison, though I'll allow I had three years+ experience w/ the Canon and knew how to use it better.

EVF resolution is grainy, but adequate.

If superzoom and HD video are your key priorities for low $$$, this camera should be on your short list. But, if you want an out-of-the-box easy to use camera that's dependable in a variety of shooting settings, look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good value for quality. Can change many of the settings in the camera. Good zoom.

Cons: Doesn't take good low light pictures so you have to use the flash.

Other Thoughts: If you are buying this as a stepping stone to a DSLR don't. I found myself bored with the camera and wanting bigger better things within a week of having it.

5 out of 5 eggsPrevious Model

Pros: I actually own the Fine Pics S1800, have for over a year and a half and have been very pleased with it. Great zoom feature for the price. I have actually used the camera quite a bit with having our first two year old. I will probably upgrade in another year or two. Canon is actually my first pic but Fuji is the price leader and I'm glad I saved the money.

Cons: In the year and a half that I have owned the 1800 I had to manually reset the software once, not really a big deal. But I did have some worries as to the probable future lifeline of my camera as it kept locking up when I took pics (after a yr and a half use). The universal reset to standard setting did the trick and we are back up and running since then. It was also nice that the glitch only affected the still picture taking and I was still able to take videos all along.

Other Thoughts: Happy Owner and zoom comes in very handy without having an extra large camera. If you want zoom and don't want to pay a lot for a camera this is what I would pic.
