Decent Camera
- Pros: 10mp, sleek, feels nice in your hand, easy to operate, easy video, a hundred bucks
- Cons: pictures are grainy, (even with manual white balance, iso turned down, etc).
- Other Thoughts: doesn't take the best pictures but for the price you can't really go wrong, hence my four egg rating.
Sleek Camera
- Pros: Love the Design and Style of this Thin Little Camera. I just got it today. Very please with the shipping from newegg. Ordered it on Monday got it Wednesday afternoon. Great picture quality so far.
- Cons: Sound quality pick up for video recording could be a lot louder and better.
- Other Thoughts: Pleased with How fast it was delivered.
Decent, Cheap Camera
- Pros: It is thin, gorgeous and light weight. The buttons have a rich feel. The price makes this elegant, very capable camera accessible to someone on a budget.
- Cons: The default setting for the left and right directional pad buttons is "Change Menu Color." This is misguided and exceptionally irritating. Why would you put such a trivial operation -- twice! -- on the most pivotal component of the interface?
- Other Thoughts: You can change the default left/right button behavior under "Rec -> L/R Key"
It's definitely a better camera than my EX-Z55, which it replaced. One qualm I have with the EX-S5 is the "Best Shot" button. It let's you pick from a list of pre-set modes, which is great for a technological novice (hi, mom!) but it's slower than a more intuitive approach.
The EX-S5 does much better in low light conditions than the older model.
I plan to recommend this camera to a technology-shy coworker on Monday.
