4 out of 5 eggsAvoid the auto focus

Pros: the zoom is FAAAAAAST. outside, the pics come out nice - flawless. there are so many modes, as well.

Cons: not too good indoors (here's where your expertise is going to be tested to the MAX). poor lighting can really make your attempts frustrating.

Other Thoughts: avoid the auto focus if you can. it's ok outdoors, but will take you to hell and back indoors.

5 out of 5 eggsSWITCHED FROM FILM TO DIGITAL

Comments: I switched from a top of the line 35mm minolta with all the toys 28-300 zoom fisheye macro lense and i have all the colored filters sepia green yellow ect. but any how i researched i didn't want to go full board like my last camera so i ended up looking at nikon, olypuss, yea that's spelled right the nikon had a blueish tint night shots don't even think about it unless you have a couple 1 mill candelpower spotlights but anyway this camera is awesome in direct sunlight for point and shoot flawless on the other hand pics at night or dark rooms your going to have to use the flash and some camera know how but if you have camera know how low light pics are great, the macro is unbeliveable, breath taking photos the zoom awesome ,I shot pics of some flowers and insects on macro breathtaking clarity once I got the hang of this camera all I can say is Im not dissapointed i can see every detail in pics down to small hairs and freckles when i shoot ive shot close to 4000 pics on this

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Comments: I've had this camera for about 5 months, now. Taken a couple thousand shots with it.

It's "auto" mode is made for well lit portraits and stills, with the greatest depth-of-field. The smallest aperature (largest f-stop), and the slowest shutter speed (usually 1/80). So if you're trying to take action shots you'll have to use one of the manual modes. There is also a pre-programmed mode setup for "action", but I find it does not quite get the stop-action that I'm looking for. It's ISO-400 is very noisy; It's webcam kind of quality. ISO-200 is the highest that's useable on this camera. Plus you have to navigate some menus, so it's not easy to switch in-between them. The macro and super-macro are outstanding and work very well. The auto-focus has some problems focusing through glass, so if you're in a car or bus, you need to select manual focus.

Overall, I'm very pleased with it's capabilites and quality. It's not a very good "point and shoot" camera, because of the limitations of it's auto-setting. But with a little forethought, you can select your settings on the different modes, ahead of time, and be ready for anything. For example, I have my "shutter priority" setting default to action (1/320 shutter speed) shots.

It's a powerful camera that has the vast majority of professional options; at the cost of navigating some setup menus. I'm very pleased with it, for what I paid.

3 out of 5 eggs4MP Camera produces a 1-2MP quality picture....

Comments: This camera works fairly well for the average user. Picture quality varies greatly on this camera, most are grainy even in the highest quality modes, but you do occasionally get a "perfect" picture. This camera is quick to startup and is quick to take pictures. Movie capture mode supporting high resolution and frame rate is nice. But I bought a camera for the pictures and am disappointed. Quality does not compare to that of my previous Kodak DX6490 camera. Also movies can now be edited with firmware update of camera.

To see the grainy pictures, just look at minolta's site or other camera review sites and look at sample photos. Also the camera is difficult to use without flash as the white balance does not auto adjust as well as other cameras, leaving you with a blue or redish picture.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a good one

Comments: Bought the camera after evaluating along with Olympus 750 and Kodak 6490. The features are very good. The pictures came out sharp and colorful. The post-focus shutter speed is very good. Video quality is good. The only complaint is the non-metallic body which felt a bit flimsy. Have to be careful while handling.

5 out of 5 eggs

Comments: My wife and I searched and decided that this was the best camera before stepping up in price to the true SLRs. This one has the SLR features though - it is all digital though. Without a doubt it is an amazing little camera with a lot of options. Great image quality, bright flash, quick focus, lots of options to purchase down the road (like the filters, telephoto lens, wide-angle lens, etc). If you are thinking about it, get it.

5 out of 5 eggsZ2 - great deal

Comments: great functionality for the price range. very fast focusing and writing. it's not as big as it might look. it feels light and very well balanced. all the options are amazing. unlike Riz's review, my camera seems shifted towards the red. I haven't downloaded the new firmware yet, but will do it soon. also, no hassle connection to the computer and laptop, just plug it in and it shows up without any drivers or anything. the continuous capture mode is awesome. not the sharpest pictures ever, but better than average for a 4megapixel camera. I have to say that, overall, i'm super happy with it.

also, newegg rules. great prices, great service, and gets it to me much faster than other webbased stores, plus (for me) no tax!

5 out of 5 eggsProblems with audio in movies

Comments: This camera takes great photos, but the movies it records cannot be edited without losing their audio. The videos play fine in Quicktime as long as they have not been modified, but if they are editied (even using the software bundled with the camera), the audio is removed. This problem does not seem to exist with this camera's predecessor, the Z1.

As always, Newegg processed and shipped the product quickly and efficiently.
