Good Beginner Camcorder
- Pros: I got totally sucked in by the "Shell Shocker" price. Was not in the market for a Camcorder, but oh well. :)
-Incredible price on "Shell Shocker"
-Easy to use
-Seems to work good
-Compact size
-Uses SD/SDHC cards as well as not that easy to find 8 cm DVDs
- Cons: -Manual on DVD - had to print it out
-No external mic jack (at least that I can find)
-Does not come with media
- Other Thoughts: This is certainly an entry level machine at an entry level price. If you are into camcorders, you will not be happy. If you are thinking about getting one, this is a good one to use to find out your likes and dislikes.
As usual Newegg service was excellent.
Battery and registration headache
- Pros: Small
- Cons: If you try to register this on the Samsung website, an SC-DX205 camcorder is not listed in the selections. Tried DVD camcorders, memory camcorders, HiDef, Hi8 but no SC-DX205.
The other frustration is the battery. It states it is an IA-BP80WA but when you try to get any replacement that references this battery, you will likely find that it does not have a slot that the camcorder clip uses to hold it in place. The slot/notch is near the terminal on the thin side. Replacements I have seen are smooth - no notch. Either there are multiple types of IA-BP80WA out there or the battery replacement mfgs are way wrong. These batteries are so small a purchaser cannot always see if there is a notch. Having a battery that somewhat fits, but could damage the camcorder clip, is unnerving as well.
- Other Thoughts: The downloadable manual is a whopping 145+ pages.

Make sure your battery is charged or plugged in during file transfer!
- Pros: Decent low light performance. Good optical zoom, standard features.. nice to have option to go from DVD to flash memory. Sound is excellent.
- Cons: When you transfer files, and the power runs out, your files will be corrupted. Took 22 hours for a good software tool to recover them from the disk afterward, and now those files dont work, at least for now.
Somewhat grainy on high quality on a computer playing to TV (720p output Avivo codecs).
Good basic camera with some serious flaws
- Pros: Cheap, Light, good zoom & lens, writes to SD and DVD-r
- Cons: Weak thin battery, zoom is too fast, takes forever to load to the DVD-r media, only writes mp4's to sd.
- Other Thoughts: If you want to take some quick shots with this to DVD-r forget it, it takes up to 5 mins to load a DVD-r, everytime you shoot! Also the battery is only good for about 30 mins, and DVD-r's in fine mode are only 27 mins max! Good for quick mp4 shots to mp4, but that all!
not bad
- Pros: price... Works well with the mini DVDs (quality)
using the media cards is only good for taking still pics....which leads to the cons
- Cons: the still pics are bad but thats what you get for the price...
if you plan on watching the movies you take then buy the mini DVDs or you will be upset.
