1 out of 5 eggsMediocre while it works

Pros: Cheap. Probably all right for holiday snaps of humans in bright sunlight. Make sure to label the pictures so you can tell who the subjects are. If you have to use Braille to do this, you will probablyl appreciate the quailty of the photos. Attractive colors. It almost gives one the illusion one has purchased a camera, if one is lucky enough to get one without congenital defects. I am glad this is discontinued.

Cons: I am waiting on my FOURTH warranty replacement. The first one was DOA. The next two worked for a week to three weeks, then failed in the same way. When you push the power button, the logo comes on the display, but the lens does not extend, then the logo (animated nicely) disappears and the screen darkens. Useless for taking pet pictures with flash because the flash always goes off twice and the animal closes its eyes. Very difficult to get non-blurry pictures except in very bright light in wide angle mode, regardless of settings. My ten year old camera with a partially bad LCD screen runs circles around this thing. What a worthless lemon. My friend with the GOOD sample took it to Hawaii and took 1376 pictures. 43 of these are not blurry and are properly exposed. But his Kodak C142 still pretends to work, at least. He is sorry he did not take his good camera.

Other Thoughts: As stated above, one friend has one of these that has not displayed this problem. So not all samples of this model are defective. Another friend, and myself, have both had to send ours back to Kodak's agent multiple times. For what I spent on this I could have gotten something much nicer. This is my last Kodak product, as with each return they get less polite and more willing to blame me. The first one was DOA out of the box, and they still put me through the ringer. Each return takes a month. If the next one fails it goes to the trash. They must KNOW they have a problem. Why can't they fix it or send me another model that works? But no, I just get another new one that dies almost at once, since their repair agent (United Camera) can't repair the unit. I only have three almost good pictures out of about thirty taken with two different cameras, since the first one did not work at all. Definitely a step down from the 1920's Brownie Box Camera.

5 out of 5 eggsWork Horse. Best camera for the money! EVER.

Pros: Has worked flawlessly for over 1 year! Never had a hiccup. In a day and age where computer controlled LiIon charging can not only destroy the camera but decrease the lifespan of the battery. It is a joy to be able to put 2 fresh NiMh AA batteries into this and have it work for the entire weekend.

The screen looks amazing!

Cons: A little chubby.

Other Thoughts: I wish they made cameras for NiMh AAA batteries. they are 900mah just like the LiIon.

I actually think most LiIon point and shoot cam batteries are under 900mah

1 out of 5 eggsUseless Camera

Pros: None. Totally Useless.

Cons: The day one it arrived, I tried taking few picture it started making sound like cur cur cur. I returned the camera. My earlier kodak camera also lasted only for few months.

Very flimsy plastic made. Unwanted, unnecessary lot of silver coating, which gives it non elegant look. Picture quality is poor, video quality is even worst.

This is a not reliable, junk camera. Better spend some more money and buy some good camera.

Other Thoughts: Won't buy Kodek cameras ever again. The company which produces just chinese non reliable pieces of junk is not worthy of doing any business with.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's cheap enough, but spend your money on a better camera. It takes great pictures outdoors in bright sunlight as long as you're not backlit or near shade (no hats)

Cons: The shutter action is so slow, you'll miss most shots. Don't try to take action or indoors without bright light/flash, they'll just be dark or blurry. And under no circumstances, download the Kodak software. Use picasa or anything else, and save yourself hours of frustration. Kodak makes inexpensive cameras, not software.

Other Thoughts: It's a throwaway. I keep it in the glove box for daylight emergencies. occasionally remembering to recharge the battery. But any cellphone camera would do just as well.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Little Camera

Pros: Worked fine right out of the box. Included batteries died in a heartbeat, a couple of Duracells lasted through a Florida vacation, lots of pictures and several videos, and are still going. Count on buying a chip, internal memory is miniscule. Videos are grainy as someone reported, but only in lowlight. Outside is fine. Loads of features, including presets for any imaginable condition. I carried it in my pocket from upstate New York to Florida and back, took all the pictures and videos I wanted, sound is fine on the videos, most efforts turned out well, plenty of camera for the price.

Cons: None, really.

Other Thoughts: I don't understand why people give one star for a defective product. It happens. If it can't be resolved, then complain.

2 out of 5 eggsKodak EasyShare C142

Pros: Inexpensive for 10MP, fits hand well, easy to use functions.

Cons: Shortly after using, horizontal lines appeared along with grainy pictures at 10MP. Poor packaging. Camera was placed at the bottom of the box with packaging peanuts poured on top. Camera should have been completely surrounded with packing peanuts.

Other Thoughts: Nice color and good feel, but you get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 eggsOut of the box failure

Pros: None

Cons: After installing the batteries for the first time I turned on the camera, the lens fully extended and the following message appeared on the screen, “Lens obstructed. Remove lens cap.” There is no lens cap for/on this camera. The camera would not turn off except by removing the batteries. If I reinserted the same or new batteries the process would just repeat. The lens remains in a permanently extended position. I RMAed for a NewEgg refund which was promptly granted.

Other Thoughts: It is a sad day when KODAK, a company that defined the amateur photography market in the USA for decades, can no longer build an inexpensive camera that "just works" out of the box.

This whole sorry episode could have been avoided if KODAK had tested the completed camera (instead of just assembling the parts and boxing) prior to shipment. The failure to adequately test the completed camera prior to boxing and shipping to NewEgg is just inexcusable.

This is the second time in the last several years I have bought a Kodak camera that has failed out of the box or after only a few months use. It is my final KODAK purchase.
