4 out of 5 eggsKodak Digital Camera

Pros: Just got this camera and I consider it a winner. Why Kodak didn't market this differently is beyond me. I have a Canon, Pentax, and others and this moves up to the front of the camera bag. Amazing zoom at 30x and macro shots second to none. Amazing shots. Still working on familiarizing with menu options but you need to read manual a bit to understand some of the functions. Can't wait till weather improves to try 1080 video function. To bad Kodak is Chapter 11 as this is a really nice camera. Fits your hand just like a regular 35mm and no where as heavy. Has many great functions not found on other cameras.

Cons: Lens cap kind of chincy and you'll need a HDMI cable to hook to your TV. Start up time and processing time between pics is slow but use burst mode to solve that problem.

Other Thoughts: Have a C195 Kodak camera and the screen scratched easily. Will buy a screen protector for this one. Thanks Newegg for the great price of 170 bucks.

5 out of 5 eggsGot in on the 48 hour for $130 off

Pros: Amazing camera. Particulary at the sale price. Love that 30X lens. Can take pictures in low like now with no flash. Tons of features.

HD video is only 30FPS, but it is very good quality and can zoom. Youtube has tons of test videos.

The feel is pretty good. Simular to the P880 in quality. Not as heavy or big.

Best camera I have every used for a point and shoot. Add the $170 price tag and it's like a total amazing deal.

Cons: None.

There is servo noise in the video when zooming which is to be expected.

Other Thoughts: This is to replace my aging P880. Needed the zoom lens more than anything. Since Kodak will be moving out of the camera production, there will probably be more sales around the web.

Like my P880, it is made in Vietnam.

Now if I come across a UFO or sasquatch I will have a lens that will be able to actually zoom out then I will actually see its a plane or a man in a fuzzy suit. The focus seems to lock on fairly fast.

I almost bought one at Sams' for $230. Glad I waited. Thanks Newegg, you keep taking so much of my money....

Check out the various videos on YT. The zoom examples are what sold me. The lens really goes out there and the IS does a fair job. Obviously need a tripod for that.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: For the price you cannot go wrong. It has a couple fewer features than its high end predecessor 14mp Z981, but the bigger zoom compensates for it. The Schneider lens is very good. It is a bit slow as are most cameras in this price range, but then you would have to pay a lot more for a faster camera. This one is not bad for the price. Too bad Kodak is abandoning the consumer camera business. They have made their reputation on offering reasonable quality easy to use cameras in the lower end of the market. With a few improvements on this one, they could have given the high end market a run for their money.

Cons: No external power socket, a bit slow.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Camera - buy it now

Pros: Does everything that Kodak's specs for the Z990 says the camera will do. I read the "extended (on-line)" camera manual thoroughly and have NOT taken an inferior photo. Do yourself a favor and READ the manual. If you set the Z990 to "auto" you have, in fact, wasted your money. High-end cameras with myriad manual settings such as the Z990 DESERVE much time devoted to studying and practicing what such cameras can do!

Cons: Even with a class 10 SDHC card the camera "seems" to be slower to process a photo than other cameras in its price range. However, the "burst" mode does speed things up to "OK." For me, since I take landscape and portrait photos, this "con" is a minor annoyance. After all, the "speed" thing is quite subjective and much dependent on the photographer senses.

Other Thoughts: You can turn OFF the LCD display by pressing the "EVF/LCD" button on the top left hand side of the camera looking at the camera back. Doing this brings up the "electronic view finder." I prefer the EVF option in lieu of the LCD alternative in almost all instances of picture taking.

3 out of 5 eggshit or miss?

Pros: wow.. if it did everything the specs say it can do it is a world-beater, especially at these prices. In-Camera HDR was what got me to pop on this purchase. When all things go well and it takes a nice photo, it is VERY NICE. HDR allows for more details in the shadow and bright areas than one is used to seeing.

Cons: as others have said, I found the autofocus difficult to work with, slow, and ended up with noisy pics compared to my Kodak Z950, which I LOVE... but it is a compact. I thought a bigger zoom, lens and cmos sensor would retire my Z950.

Other Thoughts: I tested this off a tripod in varied light and I am afraid that the cost of a second camera for the few times everything goes well is not there, in my case. I think I would have to take more shots to insure I get good one, with this camera. But maybe it was just the unit I had.. perhaps the best reviews here really are descriptive of the units they got. At this price I would suggest buy it, test the hell out of it, and keep it if it is a good one. I have seen soft photos from many 14MP cameras. This is every bit as good as them and can do more.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Camera I Own.

Pros: Love it. Great Pictures made easy. Can also take sophisticated photographs (and I have taken many already) using manual settings. Great lens and sensor. Very nice price to performance ratio.

Very Easy to Navigate Menus and Change Settings While Shooting.

Cons: Occasionally slow but using a class 10 card speeds things up.

Other Thoughts: The new model that replaces this is 14 megapixels, but the zoom is not as great.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo Weeks in the field

Pros: Killer Zoom, Great Video, Great Sound, Endless Burst Shots!

Cons: 1. Its slow
2. Preview cannot be turned off
3. Video is about ten seconds behind sound
3. Smart shot is easily confused slowing down shoot time even more

Other Thoughts: There are a lot of other issues that it has as well. I shoot in a fast moving environment at Renaissance Festivals and was using a Kodak Z1012IS previously. If the Z990 had the features and brains of that camera withe the zoom sound and video it has it would be a world beater as it is it is all but unusable to me. My shooting cycle has been reduced from 700/800 frames a day to less than 300 and out of focus has risen to 30% from 12/13%

5 out of 5 eggsKodak Z990

Pros: Have 2 DSLR cameras, 2 point & shoot digital cams, and now the Z990. This has got to be the sleeper camera of the year for it's HIGH IQ (image quality). Kodak was smart to keep the mega pixels at a reasonable size for this CMOS sensor which results in less noise reduction which helps it retain it's razor sharp images. This camera renders sharp images at all focal lengths and the macro is outstanding. The 1080 HD video gives some of the best footage I have seen in ANY camera..with the ability to zoom in/out and stay in focus..many of the bigger name zoom cameras cannot do as well as the Z990. Low light shooting? Outstanding and able to produce a beautiful image without flash. You can also set it to Smart Capture (automatic) and take great photos easily. Kodak nailed the image quality on this one..highly recommended. The perfect family camera for fast moving shots, portrait, and landscapes. Highly recommended.

Cons: Cons: slow to write images to the SD card, but using a Sandisk Extreme card (class 10) greatly speeds up write time and allows you to quickly shoot again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat "Little Kodak"

Pros: Does everything the $1,100 C^%#%* or N#^*% will do except get stolen.

Cons: Pretentious gearheads won't frend you on facespace or twitbook because you use a Kodak to take better pictures than they do.
