Images of Incredible Quality

The Alpha a58 features a 20.1MP Exmor HD APS sensor for lavishly detailed photos that make for gorgeous enlargements—not to mention Full HD video of incredible richness and clarity. Thanks to the large APS-C size sensor and premium Sony Exmor APS HD CMOS technology, the camera achieves high resolution with no penalty in low-light sensitivity or sensor noise. And with continuous shooting of up to 5fps, you'll never miss a moment.

Sony Camera

Ultimate Speed and Precision

Unlike other DSLRs, the a58 captures up to 5fps at full 20.1MP resolution with continuous autofocus thanks to the power of Sony's award-winning Translucent Mirror Technology. This groundbreaking technology directs light to both the image sensor and Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously for enhanced autofocus performance, plus blazing speed and precision.

Sony Camera

Fantastic Full HD Video

Record stunning, high-quality movies at Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution in either 60i or 24p frames per second (records in 29-minute segments). Choose the AVCHD™ codec for exquisite Blu-ray Disc™ picture quality, or record in the PC-friendly MP4 format which lets you compress files for easy upload to sites like Facebook® and YouTube™.

Sony Camera

Lock-On AF for Enhanced Focusing

When shooting quick-moving subjects — think kids playing soccer or a seagull in flight — it can sometimes be difficult to maintain a crisp focus. Using Sony's Translucent Mirror Technology and advanced Face/Object Detection, Lock-on AF continuously adjusts the target frame size based on various subject characteristics and dramatically increases the in-focus rate. Even if your subject's face cannot be detected, the Lock-on AF ensures smooth, stable focusing using the optimal AF point — without having to search.

Sony Camera

High ISO Sensitivity, Low Noise

With a new Exmor sensor that features the same adaptive noise reduction technology found in Sony's flagship Alpha a99 camera, the a58 offers a wide range of sensitivity, from ISO 100 all the way to ISO 16000. Your photos and video will shine with noticeable crispness, clarity and reduced graininess — even in challenging shooting conditions.

Sony Camera

The Perfect Composition

Give your photos a professional look with the help of Auto Object Framing. Featuring advancements like exceptional two-person portrait capability along with Face Detection and Tracking Focus technology, Auto Object Framing turns ordinary photos into beautifully balanced compositions by automatically recognizing the scene then cropping accordingly. It's an effortless way to achieve perfectly framed photos every time.

5 out of 5 eggsJust Great

Pros: -LOTS of pros
-I caught it at a cheap price, just $398
-Does every thing I need a DSLR camera to do
-Originally got this for a college class but use it almost everyday
-Very high Iso
-20.1 mp looks amazing in full frame
-Full zoom don't take away from the quality

Cons: -No real cons yet, its been holding up to all the stress I've put it through.

Other Thoughts: It does do auto HDR shooting but that can be over looked. The shipping for it was excellent, it came just in time for my class given that I order it late.

5 out of 5 eggsGood luck finding a better camera.

Pros: The camera spells out affordable professional grade DSLR all over it. The frame is robust. Detachable 50mm lense (can be swapped for other types). Provides great manual control for professionals, as well as easy automatic features for novices. Uses a good video codec. Battery life is extremely long (took a two week vacation, tons of videos, no recharge was needed). Picture grade is absolutely amazing (even shots of the sun with proper filters). LCD adjustable for different shot angles.

Cons: The eye piece has a sensor that detects if you are trying to use it. When it detects that you are, it shuts off the LCD. When taking pictures in difficult angles or in the dark, this sometimes gets annoying. Also, the eye piece and the LCD are too level with each other. So, when you use the eye piece, your face is ALWAYS touching the LCD. Using stuff like sun block gets all that oil on the LCD.

Other Thoughts: While the camera does have picture enhancing features, it does support Sony's version of a RAW picture format. Using applications like Photoshop CSx (close source) or UFRAW w/GIMP (open source) will enable you to work with these images.

The eye piece should have an attachment option as dirtying up this high quality LCD screen is a real bummer. Also, Sony should have provided some form of intro attachment catalog for people wanting new lenses, flashes, HDMI attachments. It takes real homework studying to figure out what can be used for a camera, a real money maker opportunity lost for them.

5 stars because a detachable lens 20.1 DSLR with these features and RAW format support under $500 is almost impossible to find.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera

Pros: This is a really great camera especially for someone just starting out. The pictures I have taken with this are so clear and crisp. The camera has so many features you don't need a photo editing program. I recommend this to anyone who loves taking pictures but doesnt want to spend a few thousand on an expensive camera.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsBest Camera I've ever owned!

Pros: This is the best camera I've ever owned. The colors are amazing, and the clarity is unbelievable. I feel like I'm getting professional shots, although admittedly, I'm not THAT tech savvy. The 20 megapixels are monstrous. i looked around, although rather quickly, and in my short judgement time, I felt that this camera was better than the Nikon d3200. Other people are using the Nikon in my photo class, and the colors on this are way better. This camera should have been over $1,000.

Cons: The only real negatives that I can think of are, and again, I'm no expert, but that it has a bit of a lightweight feel with the thin plastic of the body. That means that the camera can be less expensive. Also, in low light, a cream colored room came out as slightly pea green on automatic settings. I am learning how to adjust colors manually.

Other Thoughts: Buy this camera. The price for what you get blows away the Nikons etc.

5 out of 5 eggsBest budget dslr(okay dslt) available

Pros: Price, price, price. Electronic viewfinder is great for beginning photogs trying to learn settings. Image quality in low light at high ISO isn't noisy at all. Digital zoom which is rare on dslrs but adds value to the kit lens. Lightweight and still rugged. Fast focus and especially when recording video. All around nice camera and certainly competes with canon and nikon's entry level models.

Cons: Plastic lens mount. Lower res LCD. That's about it.

Other Thoughts: My first dslr was a canon t3 and this feels like a dramatic step up

5 out of 5 eggsPacks a punch!!!

Pros: Great camera, great video, lightweight, tons of features as seen in higher end alpha cameras. Crystal clear, high pixel quality. Professional.

Cons: Most of the camera seems to be made out of plastic, making it lightweight which is a pro, but shall i say, "cheap" feel, even though i am not calling this a cheap camera, whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone.
