5 out of 5 eggsExcellent compact, multi-purpose camera at bargain price

Pros: Very compact camera and lens package with big sensor.
My first Digital SLR started with Canon Rebel XS which I liked very much, used it for several years.

But I did not like bulkiness of the camera and lenses, esp lenses adding too much bulk. I wanted something that I can carry around easily. I tried Canon S90 as alternative for quick shots, but it is in different league compared to Canon Rebel, or even Mirrorless compacts.

I have played with several Micro 4/3 cameras before this, starting Panasonic GF2, Olympus E-PL1, Panasonic G3, Panasonic GX1 with excellent 20mm 1.7 lenses. But I always wanted better low-light than those Micro 4/3 at lower cost.

Since it is excellent price for this camera and lens package, I pulled the trigger on this purchase despite having both G3 and GX1. I am able to compare 3, G3 and GX1 are pretty close.

Sony NEX-N3 advantages:
Has better low-light, and also dynamic range and colors looked much better than panasonic.
Much compact package with zoom lens.
Because of bigger sensor, still able to get decent bokeh/depth of field.
I am not sure about complaint for lack of control. All are at finger tips once buttons are configured. ISO, Aperture, bracketing all are directly available on the central ring/wheel, and WB as addition button.

Ofcourse for additional control we need to dive into main menu, but in general casual prosumers these controls enough for getting good pictures, and quickly changing setting.

Unlike new Olympus series(EP-L3/L5), or even NEX-5 series I do not need to carry separate flash as I use flash for fill-in purposes. I prefer available light photography which represents the colors and scene composure correctly.

Cons: Cons:
Focus speed is pretty decent, but I am spoiled with GX1 which is pretty much instantaneous. Esp in low light it take more time.

Flash is pretty weak, and only good for close distances and fill-in.

LCD is low-res, but high quality. Wish it can tilt-down too..(too much for the price and size).

Other Thoughts: Now, I started liking this, I may get SEL 35mm 1.8 prime for this. That would be killer combo.
