- Pros: 1) Awesome control capability, only surpased by dSLRs
2) 16x9 format makes beautiful pictures 3) Noise is MINIMAL most of the time and no worse than my Canon G7 or any previous Sony I have owned. What is left Noise Ninja handles quickly and easily, though with some detail loss. 4) The pictures are amazingly sharp and detailed even at 1000% magnification (10x) in photoshop or lightroom. 5) Huge, bright, super sharp 16x9 LCD.
- Cons: 1) Noise is present, though with a little understanding it is completely manageable. People who would over look this camera due to noise do not deserve a camera this good anyhow.
2) Tripod mount is way off to the side, very annoying but workable. 3) Huge screen on the back is likely to get scratched or damamged since it is not protected. 4) Lens does not fully retract into body making it difficult to carry in pocket, especially in a case. 5) Lens cap is not built in. This is annoying. I keep forgetting about that dog gone lens cap.
- Other Thoughts: This camera surpasses my expectations and easily produces the best pictures with the highest amount of control of ANY point n shoot I have ever used. I tried out a few other cameras localy before I bought this and I have been nothing but impressed so far.
Printing is beautiful, so far up to 16x20, any larger and I need to send it out. 11x17 prints make great 16x9 with a little blade work. RAW produces amazingly sharp images, Exposure Bracketing produceses outstanding HDR shots and the manual controls give you a lot of control over your composition, exposure and lighting.
For a point n shoot with full manual control over nearly every aspect of a picture you cannot beat this camera. If you want less noise get a Fuji or a dSLR.
Amazingly capable compact
- Pros: Outstanding Leica lens; "Wide" implementation in almost every way; incredible degree of manual control for a compact; build-quality & industrial design are solid, clean, sytlish, and impressive; price seems reasonable given the above, making this virtually a one-of-a-kind on the market today.
- Cons: Outstanding Leica lens makes it a bit too big for a pocket; noisy at high ISOs & over-aggressive noise reduction; less-common Micro-USB connection; flash seems like it could be bigger & stronger; owner's manual is laughably bad; not for large hands or clumsy fingers.
- Other Thoughts: I needed a replacement for my dying Canon PowerShot S230 Digital Elph. Priorities were an excellent lens, 28mm or better wide angle, small enough to fit in a pocket, respectable resolution (8mp or better), and some at least some degree of manual control. I didn't need another SLR, but the flexibility of my wife's Canon EOS 5D meant a basic point-and-shoot simply wouldn't do.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2 nailed my requirements on everything but size. The body is actually more compact than it looks in most pictures, but that protrusive lens housing makes it awkward in anything but the most bulky pocket... and even then, people are likely to ask, "Is that an LX2 in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" I can't even ding it on size that much, because for the quality of the Leica lens it's an acceptable compromise.

AAAC (avoid at any cost)
- Pros: Leica lens, wide lens, wide screeen format
- Cons: Worst pixel noise in industry even at ISO 100, smearing colors at ISO>100, slowest ever RAW shooting, smallest in industry RAM 13 MB, small zoom, worst LCD among all soapbox cameras not allowing off-angle viewing, jerky video due to not smooth transitions of image stabilization, bad image stabilization in night shots, no zoom during recording, useless 15fps high-def video
- Other Thoughts: Other user wrote:
1) "RAW format allows for incredible creative control". RAW and JPEG are so noisy that even Noise Ninja is helpless. 5 seconds for RAW shooting!
2)"The design is very sleek, fits easily into a pocket or purse". No, it does not fit easily in pocket due to objective's barrel which makes it twice as thick. In the pocket you scratch the screen, and make lens dirty since you permanently lose not built-in lens cap
3) ..."and yet produced files that can be printed at significant sizes (i.e. 16x20)" where you start clearly see poxel noise like black dirt on all faces, shadows and even bright red tones. Red roses, for example, look dusty
4)"It has more manual controls, easily accessed, directed at the serious shooter than any compact I've ever seen". Its GUI interface has primitively made look and feel with in-house fonts of 30 years old computers. Due to button overlay, you can accidentally erase whole your flash. No info on special function (you need manual)
