5 out of 5 eggsGreat pictures

Pros: This camera is great, love the external controls combined with the touch screen controls. Panasonic got it right with this little camera. Picture quality is great for everyday use.

Cons: No zoom in video mode. Doesn't matter that's what the digital camcorder is for..

5 out of 5 eggsFX500 Rocks!

Pros: Very Wide Angle f2.8 lens with low barrel distortion. 3.0" usable touchscreen/viewscreen. Full manual controls (rare in this type of camera). Full automatic mode + iAuto mode. Lots of scene modes. ISO-limiter to prevent finger paintings in low light. If you reduce resolution, you can get nearly 10x true optical zoom out of this little guy. It takes 720P HD video, too. Macros are surprisingly good. Can remove battery and memory card while on tripod.

Cons: Can't zoom while recording HD video. Pictures a little soft at full 5X zoom. Flash pretty useless.

Other Thoughts: This camera is a diamond in the rough. A lot of the cameras coming out now are only beginning to achieve what this little guy already has had for over a year. IT HAS FULL MANUAL CONTROLS! The touchscreen is well-implemented, not overblown tech. It works and is uncomplicated and reduces the number of physical buttons needed. 10Mpixels is perfect. The HD 720P video is perfectly suited for YouTube or Vimeo these days. The microphone does a decent job.

Overall, there's a lot of power and decent build quality packed into this beast. For some reason it just didn't get popular even though newer cameras just like it are becoming popular. Go figure.

5 out of 5 eggsdmc-fx500

Pros: there are lots of settings, nice video recording, easy zoom, easy user interface, the touch screen is a plus, and theres lots of settings.

Cons: no zoom adjustment when video is recording, no cable came with the camera to charge it on the computer. you have to take the battery out to charge it.

Other Thoughts: if your looking for a real high quality pic the slr type cameras are the way to go but if you dont want to carry a big camera this one does a good job.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing

Pros: this tiny piece of heaven is increadible. Granted noise reduction could be a bit better for the price, the color reproduction is stunning. The picture quality is fabulous, especially when the camera is configured accordingly. The exposure customizability allows you to shoot pictures just how you want to, wherever, whenever. Simply put, unbelievable. And it's a supercompact for a reason. Batery lasts long enough for several shoots without recharging. Has a built in speaker, so you can hear recorded videos. So many usefult tools, only takes a bit to learn them all.

Cons: Arduously long flash recharge, but not much different than comprable models. Without flash, wonderfully fast.

Other Thoughts: since it's a wide-angle lens, the 5x zoom only really gets you comprable results as from a 3x regular camera zoom. But with 10mp to crop from, that's no biggie.
