Panasonic DMC-TS3D Orange 12.1 MP 4.6X Optical Zoom Waterproof Shockproof Digital Camera

Pros: Used for taking on a trip up Mt. Rainier (of course guess who did not bring a memory card), to the local swimming pool and Maui. Decent Pix and easy to use. The warning before changing to an underwater mode is helpful.

Cons: Leaked. We tried the camera out in the local pool...no more than 5 feet deep and the pictures turned out well. Took it to Maui...double checked the door to ensure it was locked and water tight...well it leaked. The pictures we were taking in that beautiful water started well but after about 5 minutes of being in 3 - 4 foot water we noticed the LCD looked like it had bleeding damage. A closer look revealed water damage to the screen and the pictures we took. The water mark is permanent and now all pictures look like a big thumb is covering the lens. We did follow the instructions of soaking in water for about 10 min or so and let it dry for 2 days before opening and water came out of the inside when the door was unlocked. Decent camera if it truly was shockproof.

Other Thoughts: I would not mind getting another one or changing my review if and only if the manufacturer will not cause a hassle when requesting an RMA. As of this time though, the camera needs to have a better sealing mechanism before I would recommend it.

Orange...hard to lose lol

Other Thoughts: I used this on my honeymoon in hawaii both in the pool and ocean. Didn't have any leakage and dropped it a few times w/o any issues whatsoever. Didn't use GPS feature so not sure how it works. I'm not a photographer by any means but this camera exceeded my expectaions.

Pros: Good photos, good set of features, fast response, easy to use set of buttons and controls. A high quality weatherproof (and underwater) camera is what I wanted and what I got.

Cons: I wish it had the HDR (high dynamic range) feature now available on other cameras - in bright outdoor scenes the camera often washes out bright areas.

GPS can sometimes take a long time (10 or more minutes) to acquire the location from OFF - end result: you show up some place, turn on GPS, take a whole bunch of pictures and the GPS data shows many of the photos as taken at your house.

BUT the most serious problem is the battery life. With GPS ON, the camera lasts about one vacation day (100 photos - vast majority without flash, and a few short 1-minute videos) before it ran out of juice. The manual states 310 photos with the GPS OFF, but has no data about GPS on. That is a 66% reduction in shot capacity when using the GPS. Some outdoor activities like a hiking or backpacking trip you need to have the GPS constantly on (because of the acquisition issue above) if you want to accurately map out where you were.

Other Thoughts: Using 1.1 firmware (just noticed that there is a 1.2 available.) The supplied battery is 940 mAh. This is less than a single rechargable AA which is 2000 mAh. There is no good reason for Panasonic to have shipped such a low power battery if they knew GPS was going to use a lot of power. They should have designed the camera to use 3 rechargeable AAAs which would have supplied 2250 mAh. I guess I need to buy one or two extra batteries even though opening the camera to change batteries in the field isn't the best way to ensure the weatherproofing/waterproofing of the camera.

Pros: Quick point and shoot, waterproof, good quality image

Cons: Panasonic Canada does *NOT* honour any warranty services on newegg.ca purchases as it is a US SKU. Don't assume newegg.ca is considered a Canadian retailer so you don't get burned.

Lens has no cover -- potential liability for dust/sand scratches without a case

Very slow GPS acquisition

Pros: Dandy. And orange. Really does the job. The 23-area focus thingie produces very good snapshot-grade images; the anti-shake works reliably. I have not dropped it yet, but I expect to, which is why I bought this one. I may even take it swimming. So far, a very good camera.

Cons: I tend to put my finger over the lens. Hardly the camera's fault. Less megapixels for the money, but hey - it looks great anyway.

Other Thoughts: I guess I'm a brand loyalist: I trust this thing based on name and colour.

Other Thoughts: Bought this off of a website that starts with ama and ends with zon for 274.99 with free shipping. I highly recommend.

Pros: Seeing how this is an improve ment over the last generation (TS2) I can only imagine that this will be an even more impresive device. They have increased the functionality while keeping the "TOUGH" blood running from the previous generation. The TS2 that I own has exceeded all my expectations. Traveled with it all over the world and it's still going strong getting me photos and videos that many other cameras would not have been able to!

Cons: None yet!

Other Thoughts: Always make sure you pick up at least 2 spare batteries. Even though 1 is really enough for almost all day stills and video (we'll see how much of an impact 1080p recording has on this), when traveling or just plain being active all day, you will be thankfull that you had 1. One extra battery to make it through the remaining parts of the day if needed and 2. A second spare for the times when you crash after a long day and forget to charge the dead one lol
