Do you have an activity packed lifestyle? If you do, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS3 is the perfect camera for you. The DMC-TS3 has been designed specifically to cope with demanding locations and difficult shooting situations.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-TS3 will enable you to capture all of your greatest outdoor adventures in stunning detail, thanks to the range of advanced features that it has to offer. This versatile camera is not only waterproof, it is also freeze proof, dustproof and shockproof. Whether you find yourself swimming in a tropical ocean, hiking a trail in the deep woods or hitting the slopes of a snow-covered mountain peak, the DMC-TS3 can go where you go and will perform brilliantly in all conditions.

The durability of the TS3 is outstanding; there is no condition that the camera cannot handle. It will deliver to its full potential no matter what extreme you take it to; it’s your perfect activity partner.

  • newegg Rugged Durability: Waterproof, Shockproof, Dust-Proof and Freeze-Proof With waterproof performance to a depth of 40ft (IPX8 Standard), the DMC-TS3 supports active shooting on a beach, underwater or in a pool. If the camera gets dirty, soil and dust can be washed off by using water. The DMC-TS3 is drop proof from a height up to 6.6ft in accordance with the "MIL-STD 810F Method 516.5-Shock" test standard. It allows you to shoot actively while moving around with the camera in one hand. The DMC-TS3 is dustproof to the "IP6X" standard. The DMC-TS3 construction prevents the fine dust particles that would normally enter through gaps in the camera body while hiking or playing sports. The DMC-TS3 can be used in these activities without problems. With freeze proof to 14 degrees Ferenheit, the DMC-TS3 supports shooting while skiing, snowboarding or ice skating.
  • newegg 28mm Wide-Angel LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology The DMC-TS3 features a powerful Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with folded optics technology that helps secure the lens unit for increased durability in rugged conditions, and the lens is reinforced with a supplementary damper that helps absorb impact force. The lens unit itself is comprised of 10 separate elements and an 8-group prism unit, including an ED lens and multiple aspherical lenses and surfaces. Each of these elements has passed Leica’s rigorous standards to ensure superior optical performance to the edges. With the DMC-TS3’s 28mm wide-angle lens it is possible to capture images of large groups of people or panoramic landscapes even at very short distances. The full resolution 4.6x optical zoom lens captures natural expressions from subjects at a distance and can be increased to 6x equivalent using the Intelligent Zoom function. By extending the zoom power to 9.1x at 3-megapixel resolution or less, the Extra Optical Zoom brings subjects even closer with stunning image clarity.
  • newegg Location Information Indicator Because the LUMIX TS series is designed for active outdoor use, the TS3 includes a compass, depth indicator, barometric sensor, altimeter, GPS and advanced measuring equipment, all packed into a sturdy, durable frame. From fishing and camping to surfing and snorkeling to skiing and mountain climbing, the DMC-TS3 is always ready to record impressive still and video images in the field. The GPS function provides real-time location information for each photo, and they can be tagged with place names and coordinate details. Images and location names are automatically stored alphabetically on the camera’s internal drive, helping to organize photos and making specific image recall quick and easy.
  • newegg Venus Engine FHD The Venus Engine FHD gives the DMC-TS3 especially advanced signal processing capabilities. Capture clear, vibrant images even when shooting at a high ISO, thanks to the Venus Engine’s ability to separate chromatic noise from luminance noise and to then apply optimal noise reduction to each. The Venus Engine also provides selective chromatic noise reduction without impacting the border of colors. A smooth link to the new Hi-Speed CCD sensor allows the Venus Engine FHD to process a large number of signals at very high speed. Record 1920x1080 HD video or consecutive shots at 3.7 fps in full 12.1-megapixel resolution or push the limit with 10 fps at 3-megapixel resolution.
  • newegg Full HD Video The DMC-TS3 has full 1920x1080 HD recording capability in AVCHD format. This format features nearly twice the HD recording time when compared to conventional Motion JPEG and offers a host of options that enhance the enjoyment and usability of capturing movies in high definition. The TS3 can record between 50 and 110 minutes in AVCHD mode and approximately 55 to 110 minutes in Motion JPEG. Choose from several different motion picture recording modes including; Portrait, Soft Skin, Transform, Self-Portrait, Scenery, Food, Party, Candle Light, Low Light, Sunset, Aerial, Film Grain, Pinhole, High Sensitivity or High Dynamic (Art, Black and White, Standard).
  • newegg 3D Photo Mode The newly added 3D Photo Mode, fixed to 2-megapixel 16:9, captures amazing 3D images with less distortion and fewer visible image links. 3D images are pieced together using 20 panning shots. The camera then selects the best two images, one for the viewer’s right eye and one for the left. The dual image is synthesized to create a 3D composite that can be printed, or viewed on a Panasonic VIERA 3D HDTV or any MPO-compatible device, including televisions and digital photo frames.

1 out of 5 eggsIts ok

Pros: Used for taking on a trip up Mt. Rainier (of course guess who did not bring a memory card), to the local swimming pool and Maui. Decent Pix and easy to use. The warning before changing to an underwater mode is helpful.

Cons: Leaked. We tried the camera out in the local more than 5 feet deep and the pictures turned out well. Took it to Maui...double checked the door to ensure it was locked and water tight...well it leaked. The pictures we were taking in that beautiful water started well but after about 5 minutes of being in 3 - 4 foot water we noticed the LCD looked like it had bleeding damage. A closer look revealed water damage to the screen and the pictures we took. The water mark is permanent and now all pictures look like a big thumb is covering the lens. We did follow the instructions of soaking in water for about 10 min or so and let it dry for 2 days before opening and water came out of the inside when the door was unlocked. Decent camera if it truly was shockproof.

Other Thoughts: I would not mind getting another one or changing my review if and only if the manufacturer will not cause a hassle when requesting an RMA. As of this time though, the camera needs to have a better sealing mechanism before I would recommend it.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Doesn't Leak
Good pictures and vid in and out of water
Easy to use right outta the box
Battery life isn't bad
Orange...hard to lose lol

Cons: Nothing so far

Other Thoughts: I used this on my honeymoon in hawaii both in the pool and ocean. Didn't have any leakage and dropped it a few times w/o any issues whatsoever. Didn't use GPS feature so not sure how it works. I'm not a photographer by any means but this camera exceeded my expectaions.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor battery life detracts from a good camera

Pros: Good photos, good set of features, fast response, easy to use set of buttons and controls. A high quality weatherproof (and underwater) camera is what I wanted and what I got.

Cons: I wish it had the HDR (high dynamic range) feature now available on other cameras - in bright outdoor scenes the camera often washes out bright areas.

GPS can sometimes take a long time (10 or more minutes) to acquire the location from OFF - end result: you show up some place, turn on GPS, take a whole bunch of pictures and the GPS data shows many of the photos as taken at your house.

BUT the most serious problem is the battery life. With GPS ON, the camera lasts about one vacation day (100 photos - vast majority without flash, and a few short 1-minute videos) before it ran out of juice. The manual states 310 photos with the GPS OFF, but has no data about GPS on. That is a 66% reduction in shot capacity when using the GPS. Some outdoor activities like a hiking or backpacking trip you need to have the GPS constantly on (because of the acquisition issue above) if you want to accurately map out where you were.

Other Thoughts: Using 1.1 firmware (just noticed that there is a 1.2 available.) The supplied battery is 940 mAh. This is less than a single rechargable AA which is 2000 mAh. There is no good reason for Panasonic to have shipped such a low power battery if they knew GPS was going to use a lot of power. They should have designed the camera to use 3 rechargeable AAAs which would have supplied 2250 mAh. I guess I need to buy one or two extra batteries even though opening the camera to change batteries in the field isn't the best way to ensure the weatherproofing/waterproofing of the camera.

3 out of 5 eggsBeware the warranty

Pros: Quick point and shoot, waterproof, good quality image

Cons: Panasonic Canada does *NOT* honour any warranty services on purchases as it is a US SKU. Don't assume is considered a Canadian retailer so you don't get burned.

Lens has no cover -- potential liability for dust/sand scratches without a case

Very slow GPS acquisition

4 out of 5 eggsDandy!

Pros: Dandy. And orange. Really does the job. The 23-area focus thingie produces very good snapshot-grade images; the anti-shake works reliably. I have not dropped it yet, but I expect to, which is why I bought this one. I may even take it swimming. So far, a very good camera.

Cons: I tend to put my finger over the lens. Hardly the camera's fault. Less megapixels for the money, but hey - it looks great anyway.

Other Thoughts: I guess I'm a brand loyalist: I trust this thing based on name and colour.

5 out of 5 eggsWe shall see!!

Pros: Seeing how this is an improve ment over the last generation (TS2) I can only imagine that this will be an even more impresive device. They have increased the functionality while keeping the "TOUGH" blood running from the previous generation. The TS2 that I own has exceeded all my expectations. Traveled with it all over the world and it's still going strong getting me photos and videos that many other cameras would not have been able to!

Cons: None yet!

Other Thoughts: Always make sure you pick up at least 2 spare batteries. Even though 1 is really enough for almost all day stills and video (we'll see how much of an impact 1080p recording has on this), when traveling or just plain being active all day, you will be thankfull that you had 1. One extra battery to make it through the remaining parts of the day if needed and 2. A second spare for the times when you crash after a long day and forget to charge the dead one lol
