The DMC-SZ1 features a powerful 10x optical zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 25-250mm). This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can't get close to. And its slim, compact body can easily go wherever you go - for both everyday snapshots and traveling. In addition, this single camera lets you record 10x optical zoom in video recording.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall but AMAZING

Pros: Great screen. Big and bright, easy to see in broad daylight. Battery life is surprisingly good, Rechargeable battery via adapter supplied or USB, quality sound on camera speaker, rockin zoom, HD video with zoom, very wide field of view on wide angle. Has dual image stabalizing and that makes a huge dif on videos. Accepts 32 gb SD card, plus more features I'm still learning

Cons: It took a bit to figure out navigating the menu's and how to turn the flash off and so on. I recommend reading directions unlike me. Nothing to gripe about.

Other Thoughts: Great value. It takes great pictures of birds through our window, screen up or down using the zoom. When I think "that pic will never turn out" they almost always do. It is a SMART bugger and compensates for my mistakes.

5 out of 5 eggsPanasonic DMC-SZ1

Pros: Just a simple update to my review. I should have mentioned that editing software that supports Apple Quick T will work for editing your video. Example, I have the lastest Ver. of Quick T installed on my computer so all I really have to do is drop the the mp4 file on the time line in my editing program. Hope this helps. The camera is working great.

Cons: The included software from Panasonic is shall we say lessthan desirable.

5 out of 5 eggsPanasonic DMC-SZ1

Pros: 16m, clear, sharp pic, easy to learn, 10x opt focus and the auto function works quite well. When I create either a slide show or video using Sony Vegas software I generally tweek pic in photoshop. Not much tweaking required with this camera. Just copy and paste your pic or video from a external card. I did not load the software that came with the camera. Not a fan of mp4 video yet as it is not so easy to edit. You may need to download a program like MP4cam2avi and FFdshow (codecs) to convert the mp4 files to avi so you can use in a external editor such as Vegas. I am still running XP. The video quality may suprise you. Even the 640x480 is good. As usual, newegg was fast and it still rocks.

Cons: Like I said above, not a fan of mp4 yet but am learning more each day. You have to download the user manual from Panasonic. No problem but would like to have a manual that could fit in a small camera case. A extra batt is a must.

Other Thoughts: Its to bad xp does not support 'editing' mp4 files in windows movie maker or you would not need programs like mp4cam2avi and ffdshow etc. . Make sure you determine your needs and how you are going to process your pic or video to make sure you have a understanding of what you will need. The programs I talk about are only my preferences as you may perfer others. I convert my mp4 files to a avi so I can edit them with other programs etc . Good luck

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None

Cons: Absolutely hate this camera. After 3 Kodak Easyshare cameras, this one was totally not user friendly, hard to download, edit, and then couldn't find it in my computer to download pics to another site! Am returning this piece of junk!

5 out of 5 eggsVery happy with the camera

Pros: It takes high quality photos and video. Not the highest, but plenty sufficient for my purposes. The 10x zoom is very nice! Video playback is smooth and the pictures are crisp and clear. Good pictures in almost any circumstance. Small and lightweight, fits easily into my pocket.

Cons: Not the *highest* possible quality. Audio recording could be better, but is clear enough.

Other Thoughts: Got this on special and really quite happy with it for the price. I'll likely be content with this for quite some time.

Pros: cost,size,brand

Cons: image quality is quite poor, grainy, low contrast colors, washed out

Newegg will not refund, only replace. This is the first time I'm not happy with the old egg.

5 out of 5 eggsA lot of research

Pros: This camera has 10x optical zoom and a lot of other functions too many to list and it met all my requirements IE,price, quality name and functions. Just recieved it and it will take me awhile to master.

Cons: During my research I noticed one thing that seems to be the industry standard, NO VIEW FINDER. For me the view finder really is all I've used and holding the camera up to your face helped steady the camera and you didn't need to focus on a small screen. It will take time to adjust.

Other Thoughts: What really sold me on this was the product tour that you'll find here on the black or silver camera on this site. Also it has a onboard memory of 70mb so i bought a 32gb flash memory class 10 and a extra battery (the 32gb class 10 was a over kill but what the heck).
