Produces stunning images in all kinds of situations.
New High Sensitivity Sensor

Newly developed High Sensitivity Sensor portrays brightly lit scenes beautifully, and also captures dimly lit scenes with crisp, bright images and minimal noise. It produces stunning images in all kinds of situations, such as shooting indoors and at night. Because the pixels of this sensor are densely aligned, Intelligent Resolution Technology can be used when the Intelligent 46x Zoom exceeds the optical 21x zoom level, while maintaining the HD pixel count for high-powered zoom shots with incredible beauty.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Wide aperture lens - f1.8
Wide angle lens - 28mm (35mm equivalent)
Decent bokeh if you use manual option
Sharp video - full 1080/60p
Great stabilization
46x optical zoom really works
Audio input
Room for larger batteries
HDMI output
SDXC cards to 64GB supported
Good quality flip out LCD monitor - over 460k pixels

Cons: No control ring - must use touchscreen for manual adjustments - no good for "run & gun" shooting
Very low light performance - gets noisy
No viewfinder, though I don't care.
Mac AVCHD workflow more time consuming than it should be.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these for interviewing experts for Internet videos. I set them up on 2 tripods, select maximum aperture, adjust the focus - handy blue focus indicator - to blur the background and away I go.

The wide angle lens means I can shoot in a conference room without adding a wide-angle adapter as I had to on my old Canons. The wide aperture means that if my subject is a few feet in front of a wall the camera will blur the wall while keeping the subject sharp.

My subjects don't move much, so I don't need the convenience of a focus ring. The touchscreen is fiddly, but once you know what you need to do it is quick enough.

The AVCHD format crashed FCP7 on attempted import, and iMovie can't import the files either. But either QuickTime Player or VLC will convert the AVCHD format to Mac-friendly formats. On my dual core 2GHz i7 MacBook Air the conversion is ≈2x faster than real time, i.e. a 30 minute video converts in 15 minutes.

I always use external mics so I have no opinion on the internal audio recording.
