5 out of 5 eggsGreat Lens for the Price

Pros: Love the OIS, it's very stable even when fully zoomed. Might want to turn off your in camera IS before you use it though. It's a little on the heavy side for being a M4/3 lens, but overall it feels great.

The build quality is amazing and both zooming and focusing is smooth. The AF is alright, could be a little faster. Only thing I would like is if this lens had better aperture at 200mm, but 5.6 works for this price.

Cons: None yet.

4 out of 5 eggsAbove average for a kit lens

Pros: Stabilization built into the lens - more effective than IBIS at higher telephoto lengths.
Better sharpness than the average kit zoom.
Small...very small.
90-400mm zoom range is slightly longer than the average kit telephoto zoom.
Nice construction and tactile feel to manipulate (smooth dial movement). No contest - this feels way better damped than a Canon kit lens
Focusing lens element is light enough to allow pretty quick CDAF (focusing)

Cons: 90mm equivalent zoom starting length is long enough that you will have to switch back to a standard zoom often.
Some people don't like that the manual focus ring is electric rather than mechanically linked... There are good and bad things about that.
Images are slightly corner-softened when fully zoomed in, but back off a little or stop down the aperture a bit to minimize that effect.

Other Thoughts: It's a good choice for telephoto zoom with autofocus on micro 4/3rds right now. The Olympus 40–150 doesn't zoom in quite as far, but it starts wider – wide enough that it's better suited for portraits and won't need to be swapped out as often. If you don't already know, you'd be surprised how little the difference is between 300mm and 400mm equivalent zoom, especially compared to how significant 80-90mm equivalent focal lengths.

This lens is a good value for its quality, but is even better when purchased with a camera in a two lens kit.
