Pros: Great inexpensive walk-around lens for my 2nd-hand Canon 5d mk2.

F/2.8 throughout the 28-75mm range is nice, can get some decent bokeh.

Cons: Some distortion at 28mm, not as wide as other 24-70 lenses.

IQ not as nice as the Canon 24-70L, but it's about 1/3 the price if you catch it on sale.

Pros: good for cannon

Cons: i own a nikon and want this lens for a nikon

Pros: This lens is so much better than my Canon Kit Lens. Images are clear and if I shoot wide open I get great blurred backgrounds that makes your subject standout. This is a Fast (f/2.8) lens with metal mount. So far the Auto focus has worked great as long as there is enough light.

Cons: Heavy! This is a heavy lens.
Non IS (No image stability) so you need to learn to steady yourself or get a tripod.

Other Thoughts: Of course Newegg gave a great price and even better service. Sure you can buy it this lens cheaper (only a couple of dollars) from someone else. But with the proven service of Newegg why would you want to?

Pros: Acceptably sharp at f2.8, better at f3.5, and tack sharp at f4.0. When I first got this lens, I tested it against the kit lens. At f2.8 it was sharper than the kit lens until the kit lens was stopped down to f8.0. Once you got to f3.2 it was sharper than the kit lens at all apertures. According to Lightroom, I've taken more than 20,000 shots with this lens. Compared to the kit lens, this one is sturdy and well built.

Cons: No Image Stabilization, you have to use a switch to go to manual focusing, no internal focus so the front element extends when you zoom. On a crop body 28mm becomes a 45mm equivalent, so it isn't very wide.

Other Thoughts: Especially with the high megapixel counts of todays DSLRs, you need to upgrade from the kit lens and this is an affordable, quality option. If money was no option I might spend another $600 for the Canon 17-55 f2.8 lens with Image Stabilization and USM, but this Tamron lens was money well spent. (Note: That Canon lens only works on crop cameras, so if you've got a FF sensor stick with the Tamron.)

Pros: -Cheaper and lighter than a Canon 24-70L
-Sharp stopped down
-good close focus ability

Cons: -Pretty soft at f2.8 compared to similarly priced prime lenses
-Slow, clunky focus
-Misfocuses and can't find focus occasionally
-Zoom ring turns opposite that of Canon lenses

Other Thoughts: I was really excited to get this lens and then it really disappointed me. It was not really sharp at all at f2.8 and sometimes it would focus right on and other times it would miss. Focus speed and accuracy is not on par with even the kit lens 18-55 IS, IMO.

That said, I did get some excellent images with the lens. At f5.6 it is sharper than any zoom I have ever seen. But, the focusing quirks and softness at f2.8 have me looking elsewhere. I will probably stick with primes from now on.

Pros: I bought this lens somewhere else before available at newegg. Its the lens that stays on my camera 90% of the time. I have found that the real "sweet spot" is f/5.0. It gives beautiful boque effect and spot on amazing portrait pictures.

Cons: I was not able to purchase it from newegg at the time I wanted to add this lens to my collection.

Other Thoughts: When people ask me "what kind of camera should I buy" I always say get a camera body only, skip the kit lens, and purchase this lens. Its everything you need to get started. This lens is the difference between taking pictures and making portraits.

Pros: This lens is top notch quality optically. The shots produced wih this lens are comparable to the Canon 24-70mm L version which costs 3x as much. At its 2.8 stop this lens is good but it really shines at F4 and above. AF is good though not as good as Canon's USM. It does sometime hunt in low light and there is no full time manual focus. If you can get beyond that whci I did easily it is an awesome lens. Build quality is pretty decent though not as good as Canon's L and Sigmas EX but also cheaper too.

Cons: AF is sometimes a lil noisy cybernetic sounding at times. No weather sealing not its sharpest at 2.8 but then again most lenses arent wide open.

Other Thoughts: If your in the market for an excellent lens in this Focal length and dont want to spend 1000+ for a good lens rest assured this is the lens to get.
