This ultra wide-angle zoom lens for digital SLR cameras, with the first-ever focal length range of 10-24mm -- the 35mm equivalent of 16mm ultra wide-angle to 37mm semi-wide-angle -- is a perfect tool for creating dramatic landscape, cityscape, and seascape imagery. At the ultra wide-angle setting, you'll be able to capture vistas beyond what the eye can see. At the semi-wide-angle setting, you'll capture scenes with angles of view almost as spectacular.

  • newegg SP (Super Performance) Series Tamron SP (Super Performance) series is a line of ultra-high-performance lenses designed and manufactured to the exacting specifications demanded by professionals and others who require the highest possible image quality.
  • newegg Internal Focusing (IF) System Internal focusing (IF) provides numerous practical benefits to photographers including a non-rotating front filter ring that facilitates the positioning of polarizing and graduated filters, and more predictable handling because the lens length does not change during focusing. Even more important, Tamron’s Internal Focusing (IF) system provides a much closer minimum focusing distance (MFD) throughout its entire focusing range. In addition, IF improves optical performance by minimizing illumination loss at the corners of the image field, and helps to suppress other aberrations that become more troublesome at different focusing positions.
  • newegg Aspherical Elements The optical system within this lens uses three large-aperture glass-molded aspherical lenses and three hybrid aspherical lenses to minimize spherical aberrations, coma, and distortion, delivering a remarkably compact lens with a uniformly high level of image quality at all focal lengths and apertures.
  • newegg Low Dispersion (LD) Glass Elements The Tamron SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di-II LD Aspherical [IF] lens features 2 Low Dispersion (LD) glass elements to help reduce chromatic aberration for superior image sharpness.
  • newegg Digitally Integrated (Di-II) Lens Optimized for APS-C Format Digital SLR Cameras Tamron Di-II lenses are engineered expressly for digital SLR cameras with image sensors commonly referred to as APS-C, measuring approximately 24mm x 16mm. Rendering an ideal image circle for APS-C sensors, Di-II lenses also include properties to optimize digital imaging performance.

4 out of 5 eggsNice lens for the price

Pros: Nice wide angle lens for the price, and with rebate the deal is even better. Seems to focus quickly, and is reasonably sharp from f8 up. Great for HDR shots, and Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom 4 already have a profile for this lens to adjust for the barrel distortion.

Cons: Could be Sharper at lower f-stops. Lens cap doesn't like some polarizing filters(doesn't stay on), but no biggie. Chromatic aberration can be strong but the new lens correction tools in either Lightroom 4 or Adobe Camera Raw can eliminate that problem crazy easy. You have to have to do a little post work with this lens to make the pictures perfect.

Other Thoughts: If you are a photographer you should have either Photoshop or Lightroom which is a must with this lens. It is a good lens and the better the exposure the less you'll have to tweak, but I have yet to get a shot that I could leave untouched. Hence the 4 out of 5 eggs. A good lens for the price, but not Quite as good as the Canon 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM. And if you have a full frame Sensor it isn't even in the ballpark with the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat lens for the price!

Pros: Inexpensive lens (compared to Canon) that can give you a view of the world that you won't get with ANY of the kit lenses. This is a wide angle lens without the "fisheye" view (might want to confirm that with the fishes). When using this lens with a dSLR that takes video the perspective is truly a "look" you will not see in many videos.

Cons: It's not a Canon lens and therefore doesn't have the software that Canon provides with it's lenses that corrects for any barrel or pincushion distortion. Nor will the Canon software correct any chromatic abberation for this lens as it does for most of Canon's lenses. There are 3rd party software companies that will do these corrections but they are not included in the cost of the lens.

5 out of 5 eggsFor Landscape or Anything that uses F8

Pros: -Very Sharp @ F8 +
-Excellent Build quality, feels very solid
-comes with a lens hood.
-cheaper than canon's

Cons: no for pixel peepers

Other Thoughts: The lens is for landscape photography so you would rarely use it wide open.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: -Sturdy build
-Good image quality
-Lens hood included
-Easy to use-not a huge learning curve
-Great for Landscapes+Architecture

Cons: -Some chromatic abberation in bright sunlight (can be fixed w/ photo editing software)
-A little slow in low light
-Not as sharp as the Canon 10-24 (but hey it's not near as expensive)

Other Thoughts: Great lens for first time (beginner) landscape+architecture photography.

4 out of 5 eggsGood lens for the price

Pros: Very low distortion. Good color. Comes with a lens hood. Nice telephoto range. Very bright in the view finder. Feels very sturdy. Zoom and focus controls very smooth. Half foot focus range (makes for some interesting effects).

Cons: Can be a bit soft at the 10mm range. f6.3 or smaller produces sharper images. A bit of chromatic distortion at 10mm, clears up about 14mm. Very simple to correct with software. Slow AF motor, but the search is very quick (does not over correct like some canon lenses do).

Other Thoughts: My first Tamron lens as well as my first ultra wide angle lens. This lens has a bit of a learning curve to it but can still produce very nice images. Hands down, better than the kit lens. One odd thing, the focus and zoom ring is backwards in comparison to canon lenses (counter clockwise versus clockwise).

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive wide angle

Pros: good contrast, image quality

Cons: slow AF

Other Thoughts: I've had a sigma 10-20mm recently and while that lens focused faster, sometimes the corners were a bit soft. on the tamron, the image quality is noticibly better, although the AF is slower, I guess thats not too important in a ultra wide angle.
