5 out of 5 eggsExcellent glass, dominant video lens

Pros: F2.8 gives you the edge in low light situation, solid construction excellent sharpness, excellent colors, excellent stabilisation, excellent depth of field, sufficient zoom coverage, low distortion, fast glass, smooth focus ring.

This Tamron simply is "My Precious" and is no my Canon 60D 80% of the time. It's versatility and image quality makes it an ideal companion for most trip and activity.

This is an excellent video lens. Stabilisation helps capturing smooth pans and stills while the F2.8 aperture is giving you a lot of flexibility.

Cons: Many think that the lens has trouble with focus. You should consider that while shooting in F2.8, the focus zone gets really small. Here's some trick to achieve better success rates:

1- Looking in the eyepiece, select the focus point the is located in the zone you want to focus to. On a 60D, for a portrait, select the little red square that is located right on the eye of the subject.

2- Use Live View and the magnification feature to focus manually on the subject and fire.

Other Thoughts: This lens is well worth the money asked. It might take a little experience before you obtain optimal results each time, but it will definitely help an amateur or enthusiast photographer grow in the art

5 out of 5 eggsSharp

Pros: VC
Focus Speed

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have to say this is a very impressive lens for the price. It has allowed me to get some great shots of my toddler who never sits still.

I can hand hold this at about 1/40th a second if I'm careful to stay still.

Sharpness is great threw out the whole range. A tiny bit soft at f2.8 but not enough to worry about.

The image stabilization works great for videos as it makes no noise.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor focusing

Pros: Price.

Cons: I purchased the lens based on many exciting reviews on the internet praising its sharpness. However, when I received my lens, I was very disappointed with its focusing. Every picture I took with the lens came out very soft. In fact images were worse than with plastic kit lens.

Other Thoughts: Warranty repair improved performance of the lens but not to the expected level. Next time I will buy at local store.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent quality and Excellent price

Pros: This is a great wide angle lense for low light situations. The color reproduction is excellent and is much better than a Sigma lense. The autofocus is very fast and sharp -especially in low light. I have used this lense while taking pictures at concerts and it really made a difference it terms of lighting.
The VC is also really nice to have and works better than Canon's IS. This probably because it works on three points of axis rather than Canon's two. However, the VC is LOUD! It works great but it makes the lense sound as if it were dying.
The build quality of the lense is good and zooming is easy is nice and fluid.
The lense is really wide and allows shooters to get into tight spots without cutting out the subject.

Cons: While the build quality is good, it's not great. There is too much plastic on the lense, which might make it less durable than the Sigma EX series. Also, the gold ring around the lense is rather cheap feeling.

The 2.8 f-stop is great, but it tends to create images that are a bit dreamy. Of course, this is usually the case with any fast lense. Around f4.0 is a sweet spot.

There is also a zoom lock for the lense, but it only works at 17mm. ??? There is little purpose for this feature because it's so limited.

Other Thoughts: The price and quality of this lense makes it an excellent deal. While it is not up to Canon's L series, it is still a great choice that surpasses Canon's other lenses. The wide angle and 2.8 f-stop make this lense suitable for most shoots.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Lens

Pros: Image Quality, Built Quality, Auto Focus, VC / IS Works Good in Low Light

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Build quality is much better than the previous version. Good IQ in all focal length range, much better than Canon 17-40 L lens.

Good and unbelievably fast autofocus.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat single lens for all-purpose use

Pros: Very sharp and good contrast. Low chromatic aberration (given that it is inexpensive, fairly wide angle and fast).
Fast enough to use just about everywhere. Video is excellent also but watch your panning movement (you might want to turn VC off for pans). Great price.

Cons: Not as quiet AF as Canon USM or Sigma HSM but not so bad as to make you wince. Noticeable, though. Wish the zoom was a little smoother; perhaps will smooth out a bit with age and use (catches just a tiny bit at the wide end but only sometimes). It's not a Canon L lens so live with it and smile at the price.

Other Thoughts: I read everything I could on competing products and decided this was the best compromise for a single lens solution. I'm very glad I went this way. Later, I can buy more specialized glass but this is hard to resist.
