The Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM is a wide-angle prime lens that lets you capture more in the frame by broadening the angle of view - great for group shots and landscape shots. It's designed for full-frame DSLR, and can be used with APS-C format DSLR as a standard lens with equivalent focal length of 45mm. Constructed of 10 elements in 9 groups, this lens ensures superb optical performance, while an aspherical lens element reduces spherical aberration and makes possible compact, lighter lens design. A bright f/1.8 allows effective shooting in low light conditions, and delivers shallow depth of field control. An Ultrasonic Motor (USM) provides fast and quiet autofocus action, while manual focus can be performed smoothly and accurately via the rubber focus ring. With the XSi all lenses have a 1.6 multiplying factor, so it looks like a 50mm on a film XLR. I wanted something fast for indoor photos without a flash. Focus is critical. Good color and detail when you set up the photo correctly. If I'm shooting indoors, this is my lens of choice. Cons: You have to force this lens f-stop down to get good depth of field. Some like the 'bokeh', I don't. I go for f10-14 on a tripod and I am happy. Other Thoughts: Their is a little noticeable barreling around the sides, so be careful if straight lines are important. Makes you work for the shot.I will go to a zoom in places like a zoo where barriers prevent getting close.Colors are great,bokeh is outstanding.Focus is quick and silent. Do get the hood,but wish it was included.Great for indoors with or without flash. Very sharp,especially around F/8.
