Ever experienced one of those days when some of your pictures, shot under available light conditions, were ruined by camera shake and caused a substantial loss of sharpness? Well, kiss goodbye to all those camera-shake pictures via a remedy in the form of the new Canon EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (Image Stabilizer) USM zoom lens. The IS system reduces the possibility of blurred photographs caused by camera shake, enabling handheld photography in comparatively dim light without a flash or tripod.

Excelent Consumer Lens
- Pros: GREAT lens, especially for the price. It't NOT a l-series lens... but the image quality is amazing. IS is also a big plus. Great lens to walk around with.
- Cons: If you're used to the kit lenses for the Rebel or 20D (etc)... this lens might seem pretty bulky and heavy, but I like it. Also, no mode II IS for panning. Nothing I really dont like about this lens
- Other Thoughts: Overall, this lens rocks. Be sure to grab the Canon hood for it, it does a good job of protecting the lens... This is by far my favorite lens.
Adequate lens for a serious photographer
- Pros: Good value, decent all around lens.
Useful range of focal lengths for general shooting, even on an APS-C body.
Image stabilization works well on stationary subjects.
Focus is nice and sharp at longer focal lengths.
Adequate performance as a macro lens for medium sized (soda can or larger) objects.
- Cons: Unacceptably soft focus at short focal lengths (< 50mm) at all apertures, at least on my sample.
Also, the seals popped on mine after a month or two, letting two BIG pieces of dust into the inner workings.
28mm doesn't give a very wide field of view on an APS-C sensor body. It's OK for outdoor work, but you'll find yourself backing up all the time when shooting groups indoors.
- Other Thoughts: I got this from Newegg as the kit lens with my 40D. It's a great value as part of the kit, and a decent value if bought alone.
It's not a replacement for the 24-70 f/2.8L or the 24-105 f/4L IS, but then it's also less than half the price of either of those lenses.
It's a great lens for vacation snapshots, and an acceptable lens for serious photography at longer focal lengths. If you can't afford an L series zoom, this isn't a bad choice.

Great Kit Lens
- Pros: - Great Image Quality.
- 28mm-135mm zoom is great for portraits. - Very sturdy lens. - Great zoom range for most applications.
I've been shooting with this lens for 90% of my college level project with both film and digital. This is an excellent lens and is definately one you want to hang onto.
- Cons: - A bit heavy, but like I said, very sturdy.
- Other Thoughts: Purchase this lens if you like a great all around lens for not too much. That, or purchase a 40D and call it a day. Probably one of the clearest non-L lenses you can buy.
great walkaround lens for the price
- Pros: This is a GREAT lens, especially for full-frame body. It has excellent color and contrast (not L-quality, but also not at L-lens prices). The lens focus quiet and fast. The IS helps for those situations where you use a slower shutter.
The 135mm reach (especially on a cropped body) is a much welcomed focal length, especially for street photography (can photograph something from across or down the street).
- Cons: This lens is not wide enough when used on a cropped body. The EF-S 17-85 is a better choice when you need wide on a cropped body; but the EF-S 17-85 lacks the reach of this lens.
- Other Thoughts: If 28mm is not wide enough, take a step back. I now use this lens (EF 28-135 IS USM) whenever I am outdoors and use the EF-S 17-85 IS USM lens when I am indoors when space is tighter (no room to take a step backwards).
MMMM lovely lens
- Pros: This is a great walk around, I have two other "L" lenses and only thing it lacks is the contrast and speed of larger aperture, When switching to this lens from an L your pics might seem a lil "white washed" but turn up the contrast on your camera and you get a lil closer to the beauty of the colorful L series...
- Cons: Dust pump........
- Other Thoughts: Love this lens!
