1 out of 5 eggsGreat Lens - Bad Pricing

Pros: What can I say? "L" lens, awesome focus, crisp detail, great reach.

Cons: It's not light. And the most unfortunate thing to date has been the pricing. Consistently higher than any other online retailer. At one point several hundred dollars OVER msrp. After being corrected, newegg declined to offer the canon rebate, making it nearly two hundred higher than other retailers. I was told they don't price match. It was a shame, as much as I love newegg, I don't love them one hundred and seventy dollars more than the next shop.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat lens, terrible price on Newegg

Pros: Awesome lens, great results on my T3i. Highly recommend.

Cons: Newegg really dropped the ball on pricing. originally priced at $1959 until i talked with customer support and pointed out Canon USA list price was $1699. Now Canon USA is offering an additional $170 off via instant rebate extended to retailers. All major newegg competitors are significantly less expensive. I tried 2 times to get them to adjust, but they wouldnt. Dont overpay, go to other online retailers and pay less. I normally buy my camera parts from newegg, but they really dropped the ball.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper lens

Pros: Great birding lens. Crisp well focused images. Originally thought the f/4.5-5.6 might be a problem with light, however when I shot birds it is always outside and it has not been a problem. I don't use a monopod and the IS does great. Use the IS 2 mode for panning birds in flight and it makes some great shots. Like the way the hood turns around and mounts for storage right on the lens.

Cons: With a 2X extender the auto focus does not work and this makes it 800mm. Trying to manually focus at 800mm makes the focus ring very coarse. As a result I take a few shots and refocus and take more in case the focus was not optimum. I was going to take an egg away for this but it is probably a problem with the camera not the lens

Other Thoughts: On 2 occasions I have made 500 + shots with this lens and my 40D in 3 hrs. Rarely does it give me a bad image. The problem with birds is when they are in behind limbs etc. The autofocus will focus on the limbs in front. Manual focus is slow and the bird may be gone

5 out of 5 eggsWow - Very Nice Lens

Pros: Build quality is excellent
So far images are tack sharp
This lens is exactly what I have read about. I look forward to taking many great pictures with it.

Cons: No unexpected cons. For a lens of this quality it is going to be expensive and heavy. I am replacing an inexpensive 400mm lens and this one is much heavier, but for quality glass and excellent build quality, this is expected.

Other Thoughts: As always, Newegg is fantastic. Had the product within 30 hours of my ordering without expediting or paying for faster shipping. Clear emails identifying the status. Clear order history. Prices are always competitive.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Lens

Pros: This is an awesome lens I cannot believe the quality. I was a little hesitant to by a 100-400mm lens but I am speechless as to its ability to work in any application. I have used it at Weddings out to taking pictures of waterfalls with Time laps. I have used it with and without a tripod and I have never been upset with the pictures I have taken. I use this with a Canon 5D excellent working together. If you buy this you won’t go wrong.

Cons: It’s heavy and Expensive but worth every penny!

3 out of 5 eggsNot that much better IQ than EF-S 55-250

Pros: Excellent IQ (image quality), focus speed, build-quality. Includes case and lens hood. Attention getting. "Conspicuous display of fiscal throw-weight".

Cons: Bulky. Older lens with limited IS (image stabilizer). Attention getting.

Other Thoughts: IMHO, justified for pro with full-frame camera, but so-so for advanced amateur with crop camera. Other than the longer zoom, I couldn't tell that much difference between this lens and my EF-S 55-250, which is much lighter and has better IS.

5 out of 5 eggsNice lens to invest.

Pros: Best price for 100-400mm range. IS feature is nice to have when tripod is not available but doesn't guarantee you have sharp shoot due to slower aperture. The picture will be sharper if adding extra stop only if light sources permit.

Cons: Heavy - 48oz, however still lighter than Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS. Lower lighting source will require you to mount it on tripod to have sharp picture taken.
Push Pull design may collect dusts and require some time to be familiar.

Other Thoughts: It was first introduced on 1998, after 11 years, lens are still in production. The lens is great to shoot wild life, zoo, and air shows.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Lens

Pros: This is a very good lens, tack sharp, quick focus. I spent a day at an Airshow, and got many great shots. I purchased a Canon 2X extender II with this lens, and together, the zoom level is quite impressive, but with the additional 2-stop loss, a tripod is necessary, even with the IS.

Cons: This is a HEAVY lens. (as expected) it is also fairly slow - f.4.5-5.6. not great for low-light photos.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera!!!

Pros: This camera is my first good DSLR and replaced a Canon S5 IS. What a difference! Reading the specs does not prepare you for how fast this camera starts, focuses, and shoots. I've shot mostly bird photos in a wide variety of conditions including: in my yard, on the beach, in flight, on the local pond, and in the creek under heavy shade. The results have been uniformly excellent. ISO 1600 is very usable and I am unable to distinguish between shots taken at any ISO below 800. Another unexpected benifit, the pictures upload quite a bit faster via USB than from my old camera (6 gigabytes in under 5 minutes). My old S5 would have taken more like half an hour.

Cons: The kit lens is nothing to write home about, but it will suffice till I can afford a proper short lens.

Other Thoughts: Shooting mostly with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto. Can't recommend this lens highly enough! This isn't a pro lens, but then I'm not a pro.
