Pros: This lens is crazy sharp. I own several L lenses (16-35, 24-70, 70-200) and the image quality of this lenses rivals them all. It made a prime lens believer out of me. MAKE NO MISTAKE, this lens has the resolving power of a L class lens, I'm not sure why it ISN'T marketed as an L lens.

Cons: For the lens, absolutely none. For Canon, one: why am I paying extra for a lens hood?? A $25 plastic lens hood should come with a $500 lens!

Other Thoughts: I don;t understand Tim's comment, that it would be nice if this lens had IS. Canon released a 100mm IS Macro early this year and I bought mine in May. If you want IS there is now an IS version, and it's $500 more like all IS lenses. My suggestion: skip the IS version unless you have the money. It's equally as sharp, but $500 more for IS?? Not worth it. If you shoot macro, you are definitely on a tripod, correct? If not you need to be. Save your $500 and get this non-IS version and a really good carbon fiber tripod with a ball head.

Pros: Loving the bokeh on this, which is the main reason why I purchased this, along with the macro ability, of course. Can easily get those creamy and colorfully blended backgrounds.
Also feels solid and well-built. It's not limited to just macro, either- it works great for portraits and medium telephoto photos.

Cons: IS option would be a nice feature. At 1:1, you can really see the camera shaking when using hand-held. Overall, affordable price for the lens.

Pros: SUPER sharp lens! I have yet to take a bad photo with this thing, if you have to the money do not hesitate. I own about 6 Canon lenses and I would have to say that this one is the most fun.

Cons: It's just a little on the heavy side, but I guess that is to be expected with that amount of glass.

Pros: Great quality prints when using a Canon Selphy printer. LCD is clear. Takes some time to learn to use, but Camera is easy to use for an SLR newbie.

Cons: Can't find any sofar.

Other Thoughts: This is a fabulous camera for the price. Even if you are a beginner with the SLR format, you can learn quickly how to use this camera.

Pros: Built well for a non "L" series, Sharp as a Tack, it sharper than 24-70 f2.8L, 24-105L. Macro 1:1 is great, works well with extension tubes for higher magnifaction, at 100mm the working distance is great! Yuo dont need to get right on your subject to get nice magnifaction

Cons: Slow AF! Very very slow in all but perfect lighting. Manual Focus is the only way to go on thi lens, or any real macro for that matter. Other than that.. nothing.

on a Crop camera, its not that usefull for a portrait lens.

Other Thoughts: For me I found macro to not be that fun, I think I amd going to trade this lens in for a 85 1.8.. I dont know.

Pros: Great close shots, obviously. Excellent for portraits. Good carry lense.

Other Thoughts: I love using my 70-200 2.8L at car shows. But now I have this so I can get even closer to the details of the vehicles. Walking around Busch Gardens three days ago, this lense worked great 90% of the time. The flower shots in bright sunlight were very nice. Handheld, AF mode. Got some great frog shots tonight. The only problem is trying to remember how shallow the DOF is with a 100mm lense with the subject less than a foot from the front glass. Even at f/16, you are talking about barely and inch of sharp area. I look forward to using this lense more through the summer with my flowers growing.

Pros: This lens is superb at macro work. The build quality of the lens is simply top notch. Images are ultra sharp, and vivid. Auto Focus is Quiet. It also makes for a great zoom lens.

Cons: Auto focus has trouble when up close (doing macro shots) but most macro photographers suggest manual focus when macro shooting. Its heavy, but that comes with most 100mm+ lens's.

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind that when you do macro shooting you want to shoot at F11 or higher for clearer shots.
Also, without proper flash, or very high bright sunlight you will struggle to get good shots. Once you upgrade to a better flash unit, this lens really shines.

Pros: Excellent 1:1 macro. Also takes nice portraits. This lens is very sharp. Focusing is very fast and quiet.

Cons: A tripod may be useful for extreme closeups with manual focusing. The depth of field can be very shallow.

Other Thoughts: Works great on an EOS 40D here.

Pros: My first lens to purchase for my Canon XTI. Let me tell you it was worth the money. AMAZING clarity and sharpness. Not bad for medium telephoto too.

Cons: Just not use to the weight.
