A thoroughly modern design that's optimized for select Canon EOS digital SLRs. Its angle of view is equivalent to a 96mm lens on a 35mm camera, with a floating optical system that can focus down to full life-size (1: 1) magnification. Inner focusing, driven by a silent and powerful ring-type USM, means the lens' overall length never changes during focus. This lens is a wonderful multi-purpose lens that's equally at home shooting macro shots, portraits or available-light photos.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat for dental photography

Pros: takes great before and after photos of patients teeth. When I put patients pictures up on the screen, I can zoom in on the smallest detail and patients can clearly see and understand what I see. The smallest details are clearly obvious. Patients can see cracks broken fillings etc, makes great before and after photos.

Cons: will sometimes hunt for focus, but I manual focus anyway

Other Thoughts: use with rebel xsi, mr-14 ring flash, aperature at 29 or 32 and shutter speed 1/60. get great depth of field and incredible detail

5 out of 5 eggsHigh quality macro lens

Pros: Very sharp, even wide open. Very good construction quality. Fast and accurate autofocus even in very dark situations. Reasonaby priced.

Cons: On close focus depth of field too shallow, which sometimes becomes a problem.

Other Thoughts: In rare conditions focus hunting which is not specific to this lens but the phase detection technology used on all modern lenses.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Lens!

Pros: Affordable, Cheap (as far as quality lenses go). This lens is as sharp as some L glass for a fraction of the cost. USM for all time manual focus. Great for product photography, insects, and portraits. Great bokeh. Can focus to infinity.

Cons: 60mm x 1.6 (ASP-C crop) = 96mm. Great for medium telephoto but not great as a walk-around.

Other Thoughts: Canon recently announced a new macro lens with IS. Maybe wait for that to come around...

5 out of 5 eggsgreat macro and portrait lens

Pros: A true 1:1 macro lens. Very sharp. This focal length works beautifully as a portrait lens too. Nice bokeh at f2.8.

There's real-time manual focus or you can use the manual/auto switch.

Takes inexpensive 52mm filters. The front does not rotate when focusing so circular polarizers are easy to use.

Lightweight and small makes it great for traveling. So small, that you can use the on-camera flash for macro shots without the lens getting in the way and casting a shadow!

Cons: EF-S mount so it won't work on full frame bodies. Sometimes autofocus gets VERY confused and hunts a lot (you should use manual focus for macro instead).

Other Thoughts: 60 mm is too short a focal length for photographing insects - you get too close to the subject and it flies away. If you like hunting bugs then you should consider a longer focal length lens that will give the same magnification from a greater distance.

5 out of 5 eggsWoW

Pros: Newegg pricing-Great Macro Lens for beginners-Compact Size

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: My wife and I just purchased a EOS Rebel XSi and we took our son to the local botantical gardens here in FL. WoW is the word I would use about this lens. Got some great close ups of insects and flowers. Also used it for some action shots of my son running in the grass on the sport setting shooting 3.5 fps. Awesome clarity and the AF(Auto Focus) was dead on. If you are new to Macro shooting, I would have this lens in your line-up. My hats off to the newegg crew...job well done.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Amazing macro abilities, every picture I've taken with this lens has turned out far beyond beautiful. It's easy to use, and I love the small DEF. Definitely recommended to any photographer interested in doing macro work. Its also great for portraits.

Cons: Lens "hunts" a little in AF mode, but besides that I haven't found any other problems with it.

Other Thoughts: Definitely worth the money.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible lens

Pros: Razor sharp, quality build, little (if any) distortion. Far superior to the 18-135 mm kit lens.

Cons: Auto focus on my D80 isn't always able to focus.

Other Thoughts: One of the best Nikon macro lenses you can buy. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Lens!

Pros: Very sharp pictures and fast focus.

Cons: Fixed lens. Autofocus won't focus at times.

Other Thoughts: I have been using this lens mostly for portraits and have been getting great compliments on them. Highly recommended. My next lens might be the EF-S 70-200mm.

5 out of 5 eggsNice lens

Pros: This is a great portrait lens. Not the best walk around lens but it does take nice clean shots. Very clear and sharp.

Cons: Since it is a 60 mm macro lens the DOF isnt large.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Macro/Portrait lens

Pros: VERY sharp lens - fast, quiet USM focus w/full time manual - excellent depth of field

Cons: Autofocus "hunts" occassionally

Other Thoughts: I got this lens to supplement the kit lens that came with my Rebel XT. After using it for shots of my toddler at the beach and seeing the quality, crispness and oh-my-gosh amazing depth of field, I decided this lens is staying on the camera! It provides fantastic portrait-style shots with great DOF as well as very crisp macro capabilities with amazing DOF. Have I mentioned the amazing depth of field?

Lens is solid with a good feel to it. USM autofocus is very quick and quiet.

Consider this a "must have" lens for your set!
