Great value, watch the vignetting
- Pros: Great value
IS allows hand held shots at full zoom
- Cons: Above 200mm, vignetting at full aperture
Front element rotates for focus
- Other Thoughts: Wouldn't buy a lens this long without IS unless you plan to use a tripod everywhere. The IS works really well on this lens. The vignetting is very noticeable at full zoom at full aperture. Not much of a problem above F8. A nice compliment to the standard kit lens.
I love this lens
- Pros: sharp photos! / great quality lens for the $ / physical size is good / stabilization works great / manual focus easy to use / smooth auto focus / even indoor shots without flash exposed well and are sharp
- Cons: for the $, none to speak of / could use a bigger aperture at times, but for this price, I can't complain / I suppose auto focus could maybe be faster too but it's fine for the $ and for what I do
- Other Thoughts: shot with Canon xsi and am still exceptionally happy with quality of photos / would recommend this lens in heartbeat!
Best zoom I've used so far
- Pros: Been playing with this lens in all sorts of light, today I was doing macro shooting and I LOVE this lens. Crystal clear images, fast speed, light weight. For the money you cannot get a better zoom.
- Cons: None. If people complain it takes too long to focus then they are NOT pointing the lens at something that has a contrast. Trust me this lens is very very nice.
- Other Thoughts: Just buy it, it goes perfect with the kit lens. Newegg speedy shipping as usual, thanks guys!

This telephoto zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining compactness and lightness, in response to demands of photographers. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses), and the image stabilizer effect equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer.
This new EF-S telephoto lens with great features delivers excellent performance at an affordable price for all photographers |
