This newest version of the Age of Empires, Age of Empires III places you in the age of exploration and conquest— roughly 1500–1850. You're now a European power, and it is your task to explore, colonize, and conquer North and South America. You control the action as you experience a new level of exciting combat with realistic effects. Will you engage in battle with blades, gunpowder, or both? The Home City represents your capital back in Europe and plays a supporting role in your attempt to control the New World. Take advantage of colonial-era elements, perhaps establishing alliances with Native Americans, finding new resources in the Amazon rain forest, and more.

Witness new lighting effects and shadows while immersed in a world that feels bright and sunny, yet which has a softness and depth that is revolutionary to PC games. Play as the British and have a stellar economy, play as the French and easily ally with Native Americans, or play as the Spanish and have more support from your home country in Europe.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast-paced gameplay, Home City feature for Skirmishes, good graphics

Cons: It doesn't seem to have as much content as the previous titles in the series (less civilizations than AoE II and less units than Age of Mythology). Also, the so-called minimum system requirements seem to be on the low side.

Other Thoughts: I have played this game on two computers: one had well over the system requirements but could still barely run the game on lowest settings (Specs: 2.8 Ghz Celeron D, 1 Gb RAM, 256 Mb Geforce 6200). Beware: A computer that meets the listed requirements may not actually be able to run the game, or only be able to run it on minimum settings.

Pros: Graphics - shiny but meh

5 out of 5 eggsAOE3 is the best game ive played to date!

Pros: The graphics were excellent as excpected of Emsemble. The storylines are entertaining. Played it for a year and still not over it. The land was amazingly real. Fun to kill villagers with cannons... FLYING PPL lol

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Age of Empires 3 I would say, is better than AOE2. Graphics much better and more fun. People might say its a waste of money and gets boring easily. Dont listen to them. Every cent is worth it!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat game

Pros: very good graphics if your computer is up to date. Online game is very competitive and addicting. Sometimes more than 5000 people come online at once.

Cons: Lag when playing online game. Sometimes it is so bad that I just resign from the game.

Other Thoughts: very good game to play. It make you very exhausted because every player is very competitive. After 2-3 games, i got totally wasted and had to rest a little bit. If you are not very competitive person, you will get jumped by all the people online.

2 out of 5 eggsSad

Pros: I loved the graphics. The 5-man que on buildings was nice... um...

Cons: Age of Empires II/2 was really great. I don't know what they did, but AOE III became dull and boring.

Other Thoughts: I don't know, maybe I was expecting too much of Ensemble?

5 out of 5 eggsTop 5 RTS games I've played.

Pros: As I say in the title, this is one of the top RTS games I've played. With all the patches, this game is very well balanced; to play each of the eight civilizations you must think differently. Each civ has different times during the game when they're strong (Spanish are best early on, Dutch halfway through a game, and French are balanced, but best late game). All civs have different economies as well (Ottomans spawn settlers for free, Germans have two kinds of settlers, Dutch have banks that generate coin, but lower settler capacity). The military side of the game is more equal throught the civs; everyone has a counter to everything. However, the card system can give advantages in that aspect. Usually, reviewers say that cards are good for shipping units, but that's a waste. It's better to ship unit UPGRADES (ex. +15% attack and hitpoints for all ranged infantry). All civs have unique cards that give them advantages in certain things (ex. British have "Manor House"...continued in cons..

Cons: "Manor House", which spawned one of the best booming strategies in any RTS). Even so, it doesn't make the British overpowered, because other civs have unique cards as well.

Cons: I think players should have the option to increase the population cap, if only slightly. The population capacity is 200, and allows for 100 settlers, together with 100 pop of military units (most infantry cost 1 pop, cavalry 2 pop, and artillery vary from 2-7). Of course, if the pop cap was too high, we'd have a lot more lag. I'd keep playing with 200, because my computer isn't very good, and I've gotten used to it (but before I used to kill my economy to have more military; many new players do this).

Other Thoughts: Multiplayer for this game is very solid. There is one bug, but I heard it's being fixed in the next patch. There are usually over 1000 people online at any given moment, and sometimes over 5000.

Great game, I recommend it to the fullest.

5 out of 5 eggsAOE III

Pros: AOE III VERY much improvement over AOE II.
Detail is much better then AOE II.
Story line is okay.

Cons: I hate the limit I played EE AOC for the longest time and the only problem I have with this game is the POP limit, I like to build BIG cities, and it is hard to do with this game

Other Thoughts: I would of likes this game more if it went from the years 1400-2500 AD
