4 out of 5 eggsElements -Great, Premiere-Not so Great

Pros: Adobe PS Elements 6 (and earlier versions are great programs. We have been using then since version 2 and now using version 6. We are non-professional but fairly heavy hobby type users - casual photography, digital scrap booking, etc. Learning curve somewhat steep but not beyond even a casual user. Highly recommended.

Cons: Premiere Elements 4 is a fine program IF your video files are one of the standard formats (e.g. AVI, etc). It will NOT handle *.mod files (a version of MPEG used by JVC and a few other video camera manufacturers). I tried everyway possible to get *.mod files to work - e.g. using the Adobe forums, other user lists, etc. No go, no way. Finally found a way by using a 2-step process: convert the *.mod files to *.avi files and then use the *.avi files. Ugly and adds considerable extra time to the process. Other than the file format problems, seems to be a well regarded program.

Other Thoughts: Support is primarily through the Adobe forums - Adobe seems to have employees who monitor the forums and will jump in with experienced advice when needed. Updates are unheard of. Problems solutions, if any, come with new versions. Which sometimes have their own problems!

5 out of 5 eggsAll you need for digital photo editing

Pros: Bought this to replace an older version of PhotoShop, and it does everything necessary to edit my digital photos. If that is the main reason you want Photoshop for, Elements seems to have all the tools necessary to enhance your pics. Not much you can't do with this, and I am glad I made the decision to buy this.

Cons: Adobe products seem to take that extra time to open up, but other than that, only minor issues, such as inability to set certain preferences when viewing in the editor (or at least I could not find out how, even reading the online help files). But that was minor, and did not detract from its performance.

Other Thoughts: I have not used the Premiere Elements for video editing....yet. I had a major project first editing almost 2,000 pictures, so that will be next. And, as usual, Newegg delivered on time....I paid for overnight and I got it overnight. Good job.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Photoshop and Premiere Elements offer alot of features competitors do not. This review is going to concentrate on Photoshop Elements. Comming from Photoshop Elements 2, there are a few new useful features. Layer styles for bevels, shadows, etc. provides more control than in Version 2. Quickselect feature does a very good job, opposed to the magnetic lasso tool.

Cons: The interface is a bit slower than in version 2. The print dialog box is the slowest. When printing to an HP Laserjet 5550 printer, Photoshop Elements is extremely picky at what it is willing to print. Majority of the time I get just a blank sheet that comes out. It seems that I have better results when I flatten the image and reduce the image size. Also 3 out of 4 crashes I experience in Photoshop Elements is print dialog box related. Until I figure out what the problem is with printing, I'll resort to firing up Photoshop Elements 2 to print.

Other Thoughts: My computer is as follows: Pentium 4 3.4Ghz, 3GB RAM, ATI FireGL V3200, WinXP Pro 32bit
