2 out of 5 eggsPremier Elements as awful as 9 was

Pros: Photoshop Elements is pretty good I think. It helps those who aren't familiar with Photoshop do things in a couple quick steps that take longer in Photoshop. I like it a lot because for home use, it's really almost a cross between some basic Lightroom features and 80-90% of what most people need with Photoshop.

Cons: Premier Elements still stinks. It is horrible. It is slow when editing HD, the disc authoring is pretty terrible, and the built in templates are bad. Granted I've tried the simple version of Sony Vegas and it's pretty bad too (more usable, but crashes frequently... at least Adobe is stable even if it's barely usable). But in this case, I'm tempted to say Microsoft's free Movie Maker is better for most home movies and (if you have Windows 7's built-in DVD maker), that is better too. Maybe one day I'll find a decent basic video editing software... not today.

1 out of 5 eggsOrganizer is a disaster

Pros: Lots of features, carry-over of some past Photoshop features

Cons: We purchased the combo pack (Elements10 and Premier10). Both run a service called the Organizer that they use to locate and manage images and videos. That service never shuts down. On the machine we installed it on (16Gb RAM); it captured and locked all that memory. Worse yet, when we turned off the Elements, the service continues to run and still won't release the RAM. It was driving our core temps on the 8-core CPU extremely high, even when the Elements isn't running.
The WORST part is that Adobe doesn't respond, either to support calls, or the many forums and groups they provide. We can't return the product, it doesn't work, we had newegg go to bat for us with Adobe and Adobe wouldn't answer them either. Newegg did their part; it's Adobe who has shown a terrible response to us.

1 out of 5 eggsUseless

Pros: I've had great success buying hardware from newegg.

Cons: The installer doesn't work--errors out. I tried the Adobe web site and used their installer directly, it doesn't work--errors out. All of Adobe's suggestions don't work. And the software policy means I end up with a useless software product because I couldn't know this would not install until I opened the box and tried to install it! Absolute waste of money. Don't bother buying this if you own a Mac.

1 out of 5 eggsPremier Elements version 10 Sucks

Pros: This is not Newegg's issue. It is an issue with Adobe

Cons: My major complaint with this program is the substandard video quality in the output to DVD.

The picture quality output to the DVD absolutely sucks.

When set to maximum quality, i expect compression to fit an 80 minute HD video @ 12Gb into 4.37 GB.

But this poorly implemented software goes even further, compressing the video to 3.8 GB. This V10 software leaves 400mb of unused space on the DVD. EVEN WHEN SET TO USE MAXIMUM VIDEO QUALITY. The picture quality is absolutely unwatchable with vertical banding and horizontal tearing and blurring.

For comparison, version 8 produces a DVD using 4.2GB of space and an acceptable picture quality from the same source video.

If i could give negative eggs i would do so.

Other Thoughts: I have used Premier elements since version 4. My current version is 8.
Even though this is elements (not full premier) it is bloated and sluggish. My pc is an i7 930 with 12 GB of ram, running on a raid0 HDD. This software caused lagging and long pauses in screen refresh/update. Each time i opened a project it was a long wait while the program indexed and conformed the video.

If you are looking for an upgrade from previous versions, don't waste your time and money. There is no upgrade in this version.

Since this is SW, i understand Newegg cannot process returns, so i have initiated a refund directly from Adobe.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Programs

Pros: products work well. PSE includes a cut down version of camera raw which makes some things like White Balance adjustment nice and easy.

Cons: cut down version of camera raw 6.something. The new 7 version is not available for this.

Other Thoughts: is a nice video training resource. They have video for Both of these programs, as well as photography and videography courses.

3 out of 5 eggsPremiere 10 Crashing / PS10 not yet installed

Pros: Works great when not crashing.

Cons: Often crashing. Customer support suggested something was wrong with my Windows install, created a new Admin account, same behavior. Windows log points to a MP4 (converter/plug-in?). Either way, not working out of the box on two different machines.

Other Thoughts: Was really on the fence after reading mixed reviews, but figured they were posted by hardware amateurs. After about a month of use, I'm not so sure. I am a long time user of PS but a first time user of Premiere. I struggled for days to finalize, render or burn a compilation of YouTube converted .FLV files. Finally abandoned it entirely after the app would crash as soon as the .prel file opened. I finally managed to burn part of the movie (even though it crashed mid-render) and finished with WMM. Now I'm hesitant to install Photoshop 10. I use PS8, but I use it for business, random crashing would be unacceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsOffers a lot but there can be bumps

Pros: Both photo and film editing programs offer a lot of features. Catalog supports photo and video and is a powerful organizer. Facial recognition pretty good. Photo editing is solid with easy support for layers and other features that protect original pix. Video editing much faster than prior version and supports more proprietary formats in and out (check before you buy though).

Cons: Occasionally crashes, but was a problem more when first migrating to new catalog...turning off some of the autosearch features helped. Getting more and more expensive. Constant push to online archive and other features which are not that great (e.g., 2 gigs of online backup vs. size of photo/video library is ridiculous). If Adobe is going to keep trying to upsell, it should make the baseline software less expensive.

Other Thoughts: I use both elements and "pro" versions of both products for different purposes and depending upon need. The elements catalog is my favorite feature as with some upfront effort you can easily create multiple slices of images/movies, which facilitates sharing. I find the video editing features have gotten easier over time, but at the expense of flexibility (one reason I go to pro version that is infinitely more flexible but with a steep learning curve).

4 out of 5 eggsGo for the FULL version

Pros: Value in a combo saving

Cons: Really, either go for the full version or try other software, the "element" is really not my thing...
