Worst experience
- Pros: I'll quote a few things from the WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray product box and advertisement here on newegg since I have NOT been able to use this software as of yet.........."Superior video & audio playback","State-of-the-art upscaling", "Plays popular formats", "Operating Systems Supported: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista"
- Cons: This among the worst software I have ever used. WinDVD9 plus blu-ray HAS NOT PLAYED A SINGLE DISK. The software failed to install correctly. Corel's customer service is extremely amateurish. Call #1 to customer service began with a full rundown of my pc specs and ended with the advice that I needed more HD disks to test and troubleshoot the issue.......so I went out and picked up some HD movies; BR and HD DVD. Call #2 to customer service (and the same CS representative) was starkly different, suddenly my operating system had become the problem. Although there being no mention of this on the product box, nor on the product description here on newegg or even during my first customer service call, Vista Ultimate 64 was being blamed for the issue because they're overwhelmed with the amount of support this product has required. Even when I mentioned that vista 64 wasn't an issue when they first reviewed my system specs AND that I dual boot Windows XP they ducked away from responsibility.
- Other Thoughts: Save time, money, and aggravation by looking to any other playback software and stay away from corel! I am also awaiting a response to this issue from newegg (purchased 7-25-09).
WORST Software EVER
- Pros: When it works, (seldom) the GUI is nice. DTS out is good.
- Cons: Very VERY unreliable. Blu-Ray sometimes works. Regular DVD's skip and freeze. Customer support is virtually non-existant.
- Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money. Buy Cyberlink Power DVD. I'm using WinDvd as a coaster. I uninstalled it. If you just burn your money you will accomplish the same thing and avoid the aggrivation.
This software is a Joke
- Pros: Cleaner GUI then the competition.
Blu-ray PQ is good, when it works. DVD Upscaling is really good, when it works.
The problem is, you can't count on it working and you can't count on getting proper support from Corel.
This might not be such a bad choice for XP or Vista 32 bit machines (non-Bluray version)
- Cons: Lousy support services; left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing...type of stuff.
Software can get into a loop of prompting for an available update on every boot even when there's not and there's no way to shut it off. This is unacceptable. Doesn't officially work with Vista 64bit. Trying to uninstall this junk is a major undertaking. Can be done if you are handy and careful with RegEdit. I've struggled with the software for the better part of 4 months and the Corel tech support staff is borderline incompetent. Stay away from this software if you have a stable 64bit machine; it will create lasting nightmares!
- Other Thoughts: It's obvious that Corel's buying of InterVideo's IP turned into massive fail. It's obvious that they went into it to leverage the technology and to get a jump start on the competition. The problem is, they can't compete with the likes of Cyberlink or others. This software is proof of that fact. The Cyberlink OEM version that came with my LG Bluray burner is better than this junk...
