1 out of 5 eggsLooks like a good deal-until you look under the hood.

Pros: A good deal. Simple. A card, complete with link, containing the serial number. Download & install. What could be easier?
Arrived in a timely manner.

Cons: After installation, the first thing it asked me to do was download the patch (WinDVD Pro 11 SP4). I did so. (note: no registration). After that any time a disc (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray) was put in the drive with the program running, -or- when a choice was made to autoplay using WinDVD, it died and Windows hung trying to repair/close it. Corel shows the serial as registered, but not to my account. Without a "code" you get the 1st time you register the product, no tech support(default is "email support" for 30 days, not even chat. Unless, that is, you pay $19.95/incident, the ~purchase cost of the product. The calls I made to Corel got results like "nothing we can do", "try to re-register the product in 4 hours", and "try registering tomorrow". No help about this issue in Knowledgebase.

Other Thoughts: I hope this is not typical of Corel's support, but I'm now deeply wary of products under the Corel umbrella. This experience taints my view of the way this company does business. I wil follow up if things change. I was not treated this way by InterVideo, WinDVD's former owner. I have been using WinDVD since it first came out. I've even done beta testing for them.

Wow. :(

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to earlier review

Pros: *Update to a previous review which I asked Newegg to remove.

This software works fine if you use the proper link provided by Mark S. on the last page of reviews. I missed it the first time around. It is:

Type that in your browser and save the file for future use. I suggest saving it to hard drive or burning it to a DVD if you'd like to keep it long term. Windows 7 has support until 2020 and I'm not sure on Win 8. Hopefully they will update

Cons: Software is quite slow to load on my living room HTPC which only has 2GB's of ram and a Celeron processor. Your system may load it much more quickly. See other thoughts. You may need to check for upgrades and run a patch/service pack for it.

Other Thoughts: I am unsure if more ram would help the software load any faster. My guess is that my slow Celeron processor isn't helping but I don't really need it to load fast - as long as it can play video and music smoothly which it does. I'm using a fairly fast solid state disk in AHCI mode so the drive itself seems to have little bearing on the issue. I know the CPU maxes out and am pretty sure it's my bottleneck. If the software is coded for multiple threads then a quad core CPU should load it much faster.

The system doesn't really need more ram - it's a low power draw celeron and cost me next to nothing to build and the RAM came with some parts I bought off the Electronic Auction Bay. I use it for Netflix, Blu-Ray, surfing the web, and slinging media off of my file server which is located in the basement.

I have somewhat high listed as my tech knowledge because I run my own LAN party and build gaming PCs as a hobby. I throw a LAN party at my house. I work in IT. I have been toying with computers since before "cell phone" became a common term.

4 out of 5 eggsCode on the card works

Pros: The "code" on the WinDVD Pro 11 card will work as the serial number (requested first in the registration process) ONLY if you leave the dashes out - no dashes, no spaces, just a continuous series of characters.

I did use the newest download from the site shown on the card. I already had a Corel account, and just signed in with it when the registration process wanted the buyer information.

Cons: The link referenced in an earlier review by "Mark" did not run on my Win 7 Pro system. That's when I finally tried leaving the dashes out of the code, after 30 minutes of failed attempts to get the software registered.

Other Thoughts: First time this type of problem has appeared with Corel software I have used for years - starting with CorelDRAW back in the Microsoft DOS days and software distributed on floppy disks

5 out of 5 eggsIT WORKS! The URL given on the card is wrong!

Pros: Plays DVD's, Blu-Rays, and almost any media format on today's market

Cons: The URL given on the key card is wrong! Look at the review by Mark S. for the correct URL and your code to unlock the product will work perfectly without needing the "update" many people struggle with!

Other Thoughts: I struggled with getting this program to run correctly for over a week, because the URL given on the card installs a trial version and not the full version. Once you use the URL in Mark S.'s review you will be prompted to enter the code to unlock your product and the install will run smoothly from then on out

1 out of 5 eggsWASTE OF MONEY, Didn't work AT ALL. Download something free

Pros: None so far

Cons: Non-functional and NO tech/product support. At this price there should be some way to contact the developer for tech support. I've pretty darn tech savy and tried to Google issues with this product and read a lot of forums but could not get anything other than a blank box when opening the program.
WASTE OF MONEY, Download something free

Other Thoughts: I would highly suggest looking at alternatives, including free software online. Terrible experience here

5 out of 5 eggsGood for Advanced PC users only

Pros: -Plays Blu-Ray Discs
-Nice user interface
-If you succeed in installing the program, it runs well
-Does not saturate the computer resources during playback

Cons: -Installation process is complicated
-The installer/uninstaller application is poorly designed and the program is rendered useless when it downloads updates to allow playback of different Blu-Rays
-High computer skills are needed to re-install this program after first update is applied

Other Thoughts: "Just say no" if the program asks you to download and install updates to allow playback of certain types of discs, you will be better off playing that disc on some other device.
Or apply updates only if you can perform tricky and advanced operations on the PC.

3 out of 5 eggsFinally works

Pros: If you can get it working, it does play blu-rays. Getting it working was the hard part. My old software couldn't reliably play new titles anymore. The interface and playback of this software is only marginally better than some of the free methods you can use for blu-ray playback, but it has reliably played every disk.

Cons: The download link on the card directs you to the trial version. I spent several unsuccessful hours with Newegg support trying to figure this out after Christmas. I had given up on this and forgot about it until I saw it on sale for free just now (after rebate).

Other Thoughts: Thanks to Mark S. for posting the correct download link. I had suspected the download link on the card was incorrect, but was not ever able to get this resolved. I'm glad I didn't throw the card away, since it was worthless until now.
