4 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: I've implemented this software for many companies, i've also done trend, mcafee and kaspersky in managed server enviornments and this protection is always reliable. The endpoint security managed installation is easier than previous symantec corporate 10. This has also been a painless upgrade for a lot of clients. This does have better firewall and spyware protection than versions past

Cons: The system footprint of this software is a little bit bigger than v10 because they had to add some eye candy and red/yellow/green urgency rating system but nothing like previous version of its little brother norton or mcafee.

Other Thoughts: management is a snap to setup and the price of this software is very reasonable. I have had so much more success with keeping viruses out of client machines with this software than some others but overall all my clients with all server grade A/V i setup and managed have had no infections on the servers themselves which i believe is most critical.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: Symantec's brandname?

Cons: Management Console is unbelievably slow. Management console user interface is cluttered and very difficult to navigate. Resource hog. Clients randomly stop receiving updates. Help files aren't very helpful at all.

Other Thoughts: 1 isn't a low enough rating for this product. Symantec products have gotten progressively slower and more bloated over the years and it would seem SEP 11 is the culmination of that effort. Buy something else, something that works.

1 out of 5 eggsNot ready for release

Pros: If / when you can get it work on your network and workstations it should be able to stop a bullet in it's tracks.

Cons: I cannot understate how disappointed I am with Symantec over this product. I have used all previous versions and this complete re-write of Antivirus Corporate Edition is far too large, far too slow and faces hardware incompatibilities. Server side can reach 4GB, PC side averages 456 - 835MB. Software is incompatible with some network cards (some Realtek and some Intel) causing users strange problems such as not being able to receive (can send) e-mails or print to network printers. Tested this with 2 new machines - different MBs, fresh loads and one had the problem the other did not. Repeated the test with the 2 more new machines, same situation - same problem.

Other Thoughts: Symantec has the right idea but this product needs much more testing and needs to go on a diet before I even attempt another install.

3 out of 5 eggsNot ready for primetime

Pros: Symantec's "pull" deployment method is a single customizable executable that includes management server information and other deployment options. I inherited a non domain group of xp home computers across several subnets and only wanted a single management server and this worked out nicely. If computers were on a domain, the "push" method is very effective.

Application and device control conceptually good, although have not enabled it.

Cons: Management Console is horribly slow while being cpu and memory intensive. Refresh of screen will take 20 - 30 seconds.

I am running on Windows 2003 Standard VM with 1.5 Gig and this is the only application running on it. The underlying VM host is a Redhat VM Server Core 2 with 6 gigs mem and I only have two VM's on it and , the other being a backup utility using 384 MB, so it is not lacking in CPU or memory.

Buggy, especially with Proactive Threat Management. Half the installs will not correctly pull PTM signatures and will then disable PTM on first scan after one hour.

All my clients do not display in the management console, although when you go to the client they show registered and communicating, using the troubleshooting tab on the client.

Other Thoughts: I've been a longtime user of Symantec AntiVirus and loved it all the way to 10.1.x so bad review does not come easy...

I believe Symantec rushed this to market, or they need to get rid of the Project Manager and developers because this is one hog.

I would stay with SAV 10.X for now, this 5 user was a experiment and glad I did not purchase full package.

4 out of 5 eggsCheck Symnatec KB for fix to lockup

Pros: Good AV and management Interface. Hated it at first because we were used to configuring older version but farily intuitive once you use it for a bit.

Cons: Lockups

Other Thoughts: Installed this for our office and fo a client almost simultaneously and immediately started having problems with WS lockups. Reinstall did not resolve. Did some research on Symantec KB and found a fix that will resolve this. Has been working great for several months after applying fix.

2 out of 5 eggsLook elsewhere

Pros: Wide variety of workstation control features. Good virus protection.

Cons: Management console and deployment is not geared towards IT professionals which is who will be using it. The console makes you have to hunt for features and is time consuming to use. Previous verions had MUCH better ease of deployment and performance. Product is a terrible resource hog. Processes routinely crash or the management console doesn't operate correctly.

Other Thoughts: I have several cliens running various versions of Symantec Antivirus Enterprise on several hundred machines total. I have always recommended this product to my customers and been happy with the features and managment. After upgrading one customer to Symantec Antivirus Endpoint Protections I'm evaluating a replacement product to recommend to customers when their renewals come up. Do a few google searches and that should speak for itself

3 out of 5 eggsUse caution when installing on Server 2003

Pros: Solid security, anti-virus and anti-spyware in one product.

Cons: Much more resource intensive than Version 10.

Other Thoughts: Referring to what ToggleEyes stated, an typical install of this product can cause nightmares on servers. I experienced first hand what can happen. I first installed on Server 2003 with defaults which was our file server, DC, and accounting server. What happened was the server connection was locked and clients could not access any server resources. I too had to manually uninstall due to lockup problems. Upon reinstallation, this time I chose not to install the network protection module which and the appliance control. Works normally now. For servers and clients, I would recommend installing only the anti-virus/anti-spyware, and proactive protection modules (w/o appliance control). To save yourself a lot of grief, do not install the network protection module.

1 out of 5 eggsthis is a downgrade!!!

Pros: The only thing I can say is that the web browser interface looks nice but looks in this case are not everything

Cons: Symantech is a resource hog. and very intrusive. you must install the anti-spyware and the symantech fire wall with this or else it wont work. We installed this on our work server( a fully loaded dell 2900 ) and tried to run it with our retail point of sale software, Retail Pro 8. The first install went Ok but almost immediately we had lag then followed by lockdown. We then tried to uninstall this with its supplied unistaller program for windows server 2003 and it just got hung up. After having to give out level 1 security info to symantec and fax them a copy of our invoice from newegg to prove to them it was a legit product, and after an hour and a half we were finally given a pdf via email to manually uninstall it from the registry. In all we had close to 4 hours of retail down time and a loss of 1000's of dollars in sales. Because of neweggs' return policy on software we kept it, and set up an appointment with Symantech to install it again with tech support.

Other Thoughts: From 9:00 pm to 12:30 am we installed it with over the phone tech support. This time it worked flawlessly. The next morning however was hell. All our pc's were locked again and we set out to uninstall manually. after the uninstall we called back to symantech to see what was wrong and found out. you must use their supplied firewall, you must use the anti spyware and all the other bells and wistles they package with it. You can not turn them off, or uninstall them individually. This was causing a conflick with our physical firewall router and would not work for us.I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT IF YOU ARE USING ANYTHING OTHER THAN ALL SYMANTECH TO SECURE YOUR PC'S AND INFORMATION. Not to mention that it too hours of tech support help to finally find out it wasn't going to work with our router. The only good thing to come out of this is the nice guys at Newegg were understanding of our situation and we worked out a "deal" that renewed my faith in their outstanding customer service!
