It Makes Me Happy
- Pros: Creates backups and can be recovered from not only from catastrophic disasters but even from 'oops' moments like when a bunch of stuff is accidentally deleted. Cool utilities to move to a bigger drive, create virtual machines, backup only what changed, et cetera. Sort of a pro tool for home users. I absolutely love that it supports fullbackup AND incrementals.
- Cons: It is a little tricky and the documentation can be vague. I've had some trouble backing up drives that have bad spots and it won't play nice with Windows 7 (hope that is fixed in the v.15). In v12, there was a glitch where the backups would silently not happen because there was no room available on the backup media.
- Other Thoughts: Look, backup and recovery software is less than sexy for sure for sure. That said, this is the sexiest I've used. If easy to use is your only consideration, I would skip this tool. If you want a backup/recovery tool that does that thing and a bunch of other stuff, you know how to read the manual, search the web for answers, and have some solid computer knowledge and experience, this is the tool for you.
Garbage!!!!
- Pros: It comes in a pretty yellow box.
- Cons: It takes forever, trying over and over again, before you can finally get the software to connect to the software server for updates. Then when they finally download, they won't install <sigh>. I tried doing a copy on my Vista laptop and that failed too because it said the partition was in use <sigh>. What a waste of money!!!!
- Other Thoughts: I should have listened to the advice of the negative reviewers and stayed far away from this version of the Ghost software, but my old 2003 Ghost software always worked so well <sigh>. Too bad this new software is so horrible!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!
Sorry, problems are the operator
- Pros: Has saved my client PCs and my own PCs a countless number of times. Very useful to backup entire drives, or just certain files. Works great when trying to upsize from one drive to another.
This is a big upgrade from Ghost 10 as it allows you to backup files as well as entire drives.
- Cons: Sometimes you have to be computer literate to use the program.
- Other Thoughts: I am reading other people's comments and am stunned by the lack of knowledge of other users. I admit, sometimes you have to edit the boot.ini file or check the "restore MBR" checkbox when restoring a hard drive but this is not the fault of the software! Most of the time none of this is needed and it typically takes about 3 clicks to restore and entire drive. I know, this is a TON of work.
These problems are the fault of the operator not understanding the configuration of their own equipment and not the software.
My typical config is to clone the old drive by placing the image on a network drive. Then to restore, boot from the CD, start the network services, find the image on the network and restore to the new hard drive. Works every time.
And yes, this program does work with 64-bit images.
Oh well, had to put in my two cents..
