2 out of 5 eggsNorton 360

Pros: Good antivirus which is comprehensive and stop most infections.

Cons: Too overbearing on system resources. Actually protects you from yourself too well. I don't need it toasting my boot sector.....again. Maybe they have the bugs worked out by now.

1 out of 5 eggsThe review from 7/15 is misinformed

Pros: Norton is legendary for virus protection. I have only had once incident where something got through and had to manually fix the problem myself.

It's relatively easy to uninstall, which may become important to you if you want to run any compute-intensive programs.

Cons: According to the gentleman that *SELLS* this software at his store, Norton 360 is fantastic and never causes slowdowns and people saying that are just wrong.

I have bad news for you sir. I have owned versions of NIS on various pc's since it's first release. They worked well until v.2007 which completely took down my PIII Coppermine series desktop. Too many simultaneous ops per clock cycle with no way to control them. I'll grant you it was old, but there's no excuse on a new laptop...see below.

I promptly uninstalled it and let it go sans AV. They're mostly a convenience to me, but that said, any average or beginner level computer user should have a *minimum* antivirus and anti-spyware program installed.

If left to idle too long, Norton 360 and NIS will begin what's called an Idle Time Scan. You cannot stop it & there's no way to prevent it [Google: disable idle scan]. The only option dealing with Idle time scanning is to disable the Idle "Full" Scan. (continued in other though

Other Thoughts: The "Quick" scan will continue to run OVER and OVER until your computer is restarted.

You can attempt to limit the resources available to the scan, but you cannot stop it. You cannot kill the process in the Task Manager either...access is "denied." Silent and quiet modes do NOT work...the scans will continue.

As I write this, I am wasting 80% of available clock cycles on Core 0 and 20% of available cycles on Core 1. Don't believe me? Install it and compare the Task Manager/ Performance tab to the Norton Insight'll see that it will repeat the scan continuously averaging 50% of all available power.

Continuous scans will eventually WEAR OUT the hdd significantly sooner than normal.

In it's current form, this program is GARBAGE and should be AVOIDED until the developers at Symantec add the option to disable idle scans via admin password option.

5 out of 5 eggsthat was easy

Pros: pc tune up, backup, identity protection, firewall, download protection

Cons: none, this is the best

Other Thoughts: peolpe say tthat his is junk and it slows down the computer not true (in the past versions 1.0 and 2.0 yes it wasn`t good) 3.0 and 4.0 are by far the litest of all the programs out there i have it in 3 desktops 1 nettop 1 netbook and 3 laptops wich only 2 laptops and my netbook have windows 7 the rest have xp and it hasn`t slow down any of my computers down infact it has made them faster I know this because I have use other products and 360 bits them all.

1 out of 5 eggsworst ever!

Pros: NONE!

Cons: This is the worst security suite ever written. It will block perfectly legitimate software and there's no obvious way to temporarily disable it to let you install certain software. It will harrass you nonstop with its paranoid scanner, making YOU decide if something is malicious or not because its definitions are pathetic. It also uses up about 50% of your computer's resources even on an extremely fast, modern computer. The nonstop nagging about system scans and warning you that your system is insecure because you're not buying enough of their other products is unacceptable. Complete and utter garbage.

5 out of 5 eggsThe review from 5-16-2010 is misinformed

Pros: - PC tuneups
- Identity Protection
- Backup Options
- Has a record of removing 100 percent of known viruses off of test machines 42 times in a row, no other antivirus software even comes close.

Cons: It isn't free?

Other Thoughts: I am mostly replying to a bad review here.

I sell this at my store, and all day long people will come in and tell me that Norton 360 is junk, it slows down your computer. That is WRONG. I ask every person who tells me that and it turns out they all are speaking about when they had used norton antivirus (not the same software) from a few years back. Yes norton antivirus had problems, but you cannot judge norton 360 before you try it. It is actually the lightest on your system memory of any antivirus software, which means it impacts your system performance less than all of its competitors. I run this on all of my systems, 2 of them xp one windows 7 and they all run smoothly. I would not recommend any other software. (by the way I am a computer tech if that lends any weight to my argument)

1 out of 5 eggsNorton 360 - BEWARE!

Pros: Attractive screens. Rated #1 by PC magazine?!?!?!

Cons: Will bring your PC life to a crawl.
Will automatically delete files and even programs that you KNOW are ok without asking permission.

Other Thoughts: This is dreadware. It will make your PC live a living hell. It will make every mouse click a guessing game; as it takes 30 seconds to respond to that click, leaving you to wonder if the click ever happened.. so you l=click again.. maybe 3 times.. and in 2 minutes 3 instances of your program open. Or, in Firefox, you can activate tabs, but for some reason the minimize, or close icons do not work.
This is just a miserable piece of junk, and how it got rated #1 by PC Magazine leaves me INCREDIBLY suspicious of the independence and reliability of PC Mag. I can only think they are shills for Symantec. I wish I had stayed with Panda.
